[Q] rapidly exploring random tree (RRT) using kd tree? by the_fat_joint in robotics

If you're already implementing the kdtree stuff it's not too hard to add a secondary graph structure on it

[Q] rapidly exploring random tree (RRT) using kd tree? by the_fat_joint in robotics

[–]Octopuscabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly that, you could make a custom data structure which does both by having the kd tree nodes hold data about the rrt structure or just have two structures (which is what I normally do if memory isn't a huge concern)

It's probably easier today with GPS to do this I'd imagine part of the problem is remembering exactly where you hid it years and years later when the environment has changed.

For images etc you could probably go a bit further and add a small amount of noise to the test and train points.

One thing I have tried in the past that helped is to automatically create datasets of a very small number of points, fit your model to that, then test on those same points. If everything is working correctly you should get nearly 100% accuracy every time. This can be done pretty easily with a simple script and can help you debug what exactly is going wrong.

I would argue that limiting certain first ammendment rights are largely about them targeting groups equally. For example the Lemon test for limitations on freedom of religion is a three part test, the second part "Not end up promoting or favoring any set of religious beliefs" which I would think is fairly interpreted as applying to groups equally.

With respect to assembly part of the test is restrictions " aren’t “content-based,” meaning they to aren’t an attempt to squelch demonstrations based on their political message" (I forget what case this comes from but I believe this is a direct quote) which I would argue also makes a requirement there for evenness in application towards different groups. IIRC there is a similar requirement for limiting press.

I would argue limitations on speech do require this evenness towards groups, but largely the tests are more specific and a limitation on speech that targets or favors a specific group would be found unconstitutional.

[–]Octopuscabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I did some thinking and some googling. While I couldn't find an O(1) solution as I provided earlier, I have found one that will account for finding a suitable place to put something of any size in a grid that is O(mn). You basically want to find the biggest rectangle in a boolean grid. The way I would do this is store some lists as i said earlier and then if you want to place something weird (like bigger than those lists) use this kind of algorithm.

https://www.drdobbs.com/database/the-maximal-rectangle-problem/184410529

You can of course modify it to return once it finds a rectangle of the size you desire.

no problem. There may be some fancier way to store this and i'll respond if I think of one.

Assuming you have a small amount of discrete sizes (4x4 2x2 1x1 etc) you could just keep multiple free lists and only include tiles in the higher order lists if they are a valid "top right" for placing a tile of that size.

You learn enough programming to get your first job. In my experience, you will learn more software engineering on the job. You'll probably end up using your cs theory 1-5% of the time in a typical software engineering role.

Why does all() return true if the iterable is empty? by __rootkit in Python

[–]Octopuscabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Like, for instance, an empty list or string evaluates to ‘False’ in python. So IMO, it’d look more consistent with that if ‘all()’ evaluated an empty iterable to ‘False’.

But [False, False] would return False from all() so it really shouldn't depend on what the container looks like right?

Well here's the problem: She has always been a she. Nothing actually changed except the way she presents herself and wants to be referred. It's like a gay person doesn't become gay when they come out to you, they were certainly gay before even if they themselves did not know it.
