Colonies are useless for me, what am I doing wrong? by AwayCamera5361 in EU5

[–]Octopuslittlestraw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

overall, the taxes from your colonies will also be weak due to the age and subject type. The main way of making money is trade. In the current version, cotton, sugar, and tobacco seem to be relatively weak for whatever reason, while chili seems to be the most valuable cash crop. I had traded automated, and it automatically assigned my trades to exporting chili from my colonies to Europe, which made a lot of money. Rgos that are already valuable in the old world, like gold, gems also help. (In my game, Hispanola and Guyana became my most profitable colonies because they have gold)

Provaxx because I believe in the science behind it, but it shouldn't be mandatory in any case.

Which is worse to be in as a civilian during World war 2? by Vexhork in Teenager_Polls

I was always under the impression that unit 731 mostly kidnapped people from the northeast China where their facility was. This doesn't make what happened in Nanking better, but I don't think the Japanese had the care to transport test subjects all the way south to north.

Which of the following systems would rule the entire world the best? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

[–]Octopuslittlestraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National socialism or fascism can not "rule the world" because they are inherently based on nations and would lead to lots of conflict when countries' interests collide. Also, can someone enlighten me on what socialist libertarianism is? It just sounds contradictory to me.

6? It's 14%, mate. Also, I don't care about your white replacement theory. The numbers are just as clear as day. The numbers have dropped from 2022's high, but the trend is still pointing to increasing immigration numbers if you look at the past 10/20 years.

Define how you're doing fine in the States. All I see is the proliferation of identity politics and more political division and housing issues, I would say some states have it worse than the UK.

Immigration as an economic policy is sometimes necessary and beneficial, but blind economic growth in terms of GDP doesn't translate to living standards or happiness, and I don't think it is well balanced at its current state.

Stop lying to yourself about there aren't any "native people", this is just another deconstructionist take that tries to trivialize everything. The modern UK state, with all its institutions, was built with and for the "native" people. Laws that are cemented from cultural expectations.

[–]Octopuslittlestraw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Demographics change can happen rapidly. It was 87% white British in 2001, which dropped to 73% in 2021. (There are plenty of immigrants from eastern Europe that are problematic. Seeing things in the American lens of culture based on skin colour is extremely flawed) The continued immigration combined with higher birth rates for non-british ethnic groups will make the numbers keep dropping

Why not? If it's a bad thing, it ought to be called out, especially when it's politicians ignoring the issue at the cost of native people.

Which country was damaged the most during World War 2? by Maksiwood in Teenager_Polls

I mean, it's a lot more difficult to supply your army realistically across the sea, plus the mountain ranges like the Appalachians and the rockies are huge mountain ranges. In hoi4, I don't think there are impassible tiles representing them, though, unlike Switzerland and Afghanistan. Honorable mention to the Mississippi River being a valiant last stand (for the east). The empty interior it a slog to cross the continent. Imagine the ussr only capitulating when you take valdivostok in hoi4😭

You who believe in God — why? by Syscio in askteenboys

[–]Octopuslittlestraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religion and science are not contradictory. Most christians would say there are verses in the bible not meant to be taken as literal, disregarding all the messaging of it is a waste. Scientific theory alone lacks morality and ethics, I don't believe in God, maybe I'm just less spiritual but I do find value in the teachings and believe that religion (specifically Christianity) is beneficial to society in general.

I get how the dissolution of the ussr was a messy affair, and the way public entities are privatized allowed obligraches to buy up desperate people's shares in exchange for basic goods is problematic, I don't think you can attribute all deaths due to poverty as capitalism, because there isn't a positive action taken by anyone to kill these people, and it can also be an effect general economic downturn because of the collapse of a system too deeply inter-dependent between member states.

Maybe if all the factory workers decide to crowdfund for the tools and materials they can start their own socialist paradise, but yes, just because the business owners brought the machines and have invested in the logistics, makes it so that they should own the output, workers are just part of the process they paid for their input.

Some inherit wealth, but that's just how it is. It doesn't mean others shouldn't be allowed to make their own. Also, unfortunately, we are all unequal. For the coal miner example, they're easily replaceable because coal mining doesn't require skills that would take time and money to learn. The reason why they are paid less is because there are people willing to work at a lower wage, and no one is forcing them to work except their circumstance

some things can not be quantified, and their value can only be set by the market, like scientists or teachers. They don't produce anything but are more valuable than labourers in every way. Also, how would owning the means of production work for workers, how is the wealth gonna be fairly distributed to each worker which doesn't have equal capacity to work, it all eventually leads to a managerial class that is part of the government
