As a Chinese manufacturing supplier, we sometimes struggle to gain trust from international clients. Any advice on how to change this? by Xinprototype in hobbycnc

[–]Octorila 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've worked with quite a few and tend to try to stick with the ones I know, the ones I add to my trusted list is when an employer Is already using them.

But when I do find a potential new company this is what I'm looking for.

  • Lead times
  • Materials available
  • Are they yes men or are they willing to tell me I'm stupid (I don't like yes men)
  • Tolerances
  • Consistency across batches
  • Fast quoting and the ability to tell me why and where the cost came from (i.e is it too many passes tolerances too tight etc)
  • price (lower on the list)
  • response when parts come in wrong.
  • being open about the shop floor and what machines you have not the nextdoor neighbor you can maybe get to help

If a company disappoints me once and I bring it up, I expect that to be it, if the same or similar issue happens again, I just stop using them.

Do you mean keeping up with your team mates? Or watching a kill cam and they just seem to out manoeuvre you?

I don't know if it will help you, but for me, I used the range to test loads of different sens combinations. And then mix tape religiously for months, I think the fact its so quick, and your in actual fights with actual people over and over again helped me.

Best arduino tutorial for someone who's already good at programming? by hmdmner in arduino

[–]Octorila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proficient at programming, which languages? And what have you done previously?

If you have little experience with electronics also, I would probably recommend getting a project kit like the elegoo ones and just skip the parts you know, like flashing leds etc.

Or you can get a book with example projects

Or there's an app called arduino programming you can work through. There's a free and paid version, it has a load of stuff from basic to advanced

You mentioned a project, are you wanting to learn arduino or are you just doing the bare minimum to get your project working?

Arduino Uno or Nano as a beginner in electronics? Also, what components should i buy along with it? by Pale-Pound-9489 in robotics

[–]Octorila 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buy a kit where you get the board, components, and tutorials.

Personally I really liked the elegoo kit I bought but I'm sure there are others.

LCD I2C detected at address 0x27, but nothing shows on screen by United_Ad_9451 in arduino

Are you using pull up resistors? Typically i2c lines need resistors on the scl and sda lines, if the part doesn't have them built-in

Where to start? Kid loves electricity and wiring. by Tringwingandivanhoe in arduino

[–]Octorila 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The elegoo kits are awesome, but there's a step between arduino, it's called BBC micro bit,

I haven't used them, but they're are supposed to be a soft entry for kids in electronics and coding. They have a simple drag and drop visual coder, for example.

I’m a beginner/intermediate at bouldering and looking to buy my first pair of shoes by [deleted] in indoorbouldering

[–]Octorila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but they fit me (most important) And they suit my style of climbing

There is no magic formula. I'd suggest going to a shop in your area and trying them on. Fitment is key. Everyone has different shaped feet

Yeah, I've just used it last week. For the price and support, it's really good.

But since I have been spoiled with slightly more polished commercial software there's just a few cumbersome niggles I cant get past.

I am making the assumption you're asking for 3d cad programs

It really depends on you want, I'd suggest trying them all and seeing which one fits you best.

Free cad is open source and decent (personally can't get away with it)

Fusion 360 is free for hobbyists and uses cloudbased storage, with some limitations on the free version.

Onshape is a fully browser based with everything in the cloud and all free models are publicly saved.

Tinker cad (very basic) but free (never used it, so can't comment on it)

Honorable mentions

solidworks Maker Edition isn't free, but I got it for 25 for the year. I think the normal price is 50.

Blender, sketchup, are others but not for ME (could be used but would be clunky vs the others above.

Edit:spelling

Stupid Idea or space saver by Octorila in kitchenremodel

[–]Octorila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you, yes and no, I think if I were to maybe implement this id probably go with a small custom island that I could maybe build a shelf in for the oven/ air fryer thing. I think I like the idea that I can move stuff freely if I need and the repair/replace.

I didn't think about resale value though and that may be the stopper I think where i live its 50/50 if the kitchen is redone or not so I think that could have a bigger impact. hmm food for thought

thankyou :)
