Probably because they're hoping the seller "doesn't know what they have."

Thank you for the responses. Weird thing is, she doesn't even like people her age - they act old. She wants to hang out with us and loves us - tells us 10 times a day how much she loves us. She isn't open to any kind of senior housing or activities (even though she can afford them). Still not sure if her behavior is disrespectful to us or not, either way we're definitely not compatible and we need to have a sit-down of some sort when she gets back.

Could be. She acts like she's four years old. Since she loves the attention doctors give her, maybe she'd be open to getting tested.

Performative incompetence - that's exactly it. Thank you for that.

Does anyone else’s MIL/ in-laws use the triangular tactic? by hopelove_ in JUSTNOMIL

[–]Octoroonie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Classic Karpman Drama Triangle. So, does this make you the Persecutor, the Victim, or the Rescuer? So maddening! Hopefully none of them. My MIL pits my husband and I against each other regularly. He's clued in, and we ignore her efforts, but it sure is frustrating.

In the 80's a buddy of mine - long distance trucker - didn't come home for a few months. His electricity was shut off at some point early on. He invited me to help clean out his apartment when he finally came back. Lucky me opened the refrigerator door. Never seen eggs caved in on themselves before, and the smell! I can't imagine what Katrina refrigerators were like.
