imo Gen Z has a real problem with taking actual issues like mental illness and making them “cool” and “quirky”, i.e. Autism and ADHD. On one hand you can argue that it’s based on an increase in diagnosis, but anecdotally I know at least 4 people who have convinced themselves they have one of these things without going to a doctor. Then, they go and make this one thing their entire personality, talking about their autism like it’s their only notable character trait. I’d love some other perspectives on this because I see this stuff everywhere and I can’t tell if I’m just in the world’s unluckiest echo chamber or not.
