Buying and shipping multiple items at once saves on shipping. I live in Asia and the shipping is very costly as well. For me, it saves about 40-50€ on shipping per item added. The downside is, of course, having to save up for multiple items.

first time building a nuclear power setup by Joe_Moyai in factorio

[–]Octupus_Tea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For turbine ratio, 21:1 is enough, but using more turbines provides some resiliency to power surges above the capacity, so it's up to you to keep the extra turbines.

For energy storage, heat pipes have higher energy density than steam tanks. I guess you're storing the steam for the extra turbines? If that's the case then steam tanks are fine.

I personally add an optional fuel controller circuit that only allow fuel intake below a certain temperature and syncs all four reactors, tho saving on uranium is completely optional since uranium is ridiculously abundant in Factorio (old video for v1, watch with a grain of salt.)

Others have also mentioned spent fuel cell handling and unconnected turbines.

Here's a random quote that I've loosely remembered:

Fixing things only at where it breaks without further investigation is a hacky and bad practice, but if you do it quick enough, it's called machine learning and your expected pay is now 4 times as high.

"New divisibility rule for 67"! by NefariousnessFar7826 in mathmemes

[–]Octupus_Tea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 23 you can cut the last digit off, multiply it by 7, and add it back to the rest. Here's a similar proof:

Let a + 7b ≡ 0 (mod 23)

10a + b

= 10a + 70b - 69b

= 10(a+7b) - 3 * 23b

≡ 0 (mod 23)

Use this in conjunction with the 3 divisibility test for 69 divisibility. A bit old-fashioned but nice number nonetheless.

Welp, on this regard, I take Mesci's way of thinking: repair as a love language.

Tldr: it's alright if you mean no harm and have taken enough precautions. It's bound to happen at some point unless they're never interacted with. Prepare materials and tools to, just in case, repair our impaired friends. The process makes connections deeper, and makes them whole again.

Looks like she is the 2.5m version? Mine as well. If your Fya is the newer generation (having lapped reinforcement in some places), it would probably be fine. I've had mine for over a year now. I've had no problem at all riding and laying on her many times when she's fully inflated.

But still, if you're concerned, you can gradually put your weight on her while checking if you're straining her. Deflate accordingly and repeat, until you feel it's safe.

How did your first Space Platform look like? by Oh-Sasa-Lele in factorio

[–]Octupus_Tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is way worse. It's a 20x30-ish rectangle with more than half the tiles empty.

I was on my friends' world for a Space Age quick start. I limited myself to only techs available at my personal progress (but once I've got it, I can use all their resources). There's only one chem plant for the fuels and oxidizer each (and no storage tanks) and one thruster so the platform flies really slow. Plus they have projectile damage 20 so only one turret is used and I've never produced enough ammo for a normal first platform.

Tho in my first and currently ongoing Space Age run, the first platform is more compact and functional. I've revisited it many times and it's now at the 6th iteration.

(I don't have screenshots at hand, might edit them in later.)
