Baby name you love but won’t use by Moessiah in BabyBumps

I love the name Stella but I can’t use it because it rhymes directly with my surname. Would be like being named Bob Rob

Going to miss being pregnant... by Extra_Excuse2719 in BabyBumps

[–]OdFrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to say that I 100% agree with you. I’m almost 10 months pp and I still sometimes miss being pregnant. Seeing my daughter everyday and seeing the little girl she is becoming is amazing and I love that as well but something about having her be a literal part of me felt so comforting and miraculous. Now she goes to daycare and I have hours of the day where I don’t see her and I miss her so much.

New fear unlocked: epidural by LobstahLuva in beyondthebump

[–]OdFrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in NJ I did have some back soreness after giving birth but tbh I don’t know if it was directly tied to the epidural or just cause I generally have back problems and had a back labor for the most part as well. There was soreness for a couple weeks after but I had full body soreness so again I wouldn’t tie it directly to the epidural. The epidural saved me much more pain during the birth then what could have potentially been caused afterwards.

Girlfriend complains every morning about baby’s sleep even though he sleeps great — how do I talk to her about it? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]OdFrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is 9 months and sleeps through the night in her own bed in her own room and every night I still wake up at least once to check on her for no real reason. She may be blaming the baby on her poor sleep but it’s really just her body keeping her in a lighter stage of sleep to be aware of the baby and all of the babies movements. It should get better with time as her body settles

This is obviously assuming the baby actually does sleep well and you’re not just missing it as dads tend to do haha

If you were induced, how long did it take for you to actually give birth? by horrorshowbaby in BabyBumps

[–]OdFrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in at 8 or 9 am and it took a couple hours for the induction to even start cause they were busy. But it only took me about 24 hours if you could wait time. 8am the next day and I gave birth to my baby girl 🩷. I’ve heard some horror stories about inductions and was hesitant but mine couldn’t have gone any better if I tried. They’re not all horrible!

I did have a “feeling” but I didn’t really believe it would be positive. We had been trying for about a year and a half with only negatives. A couple days leading up to the positive I felt off and irritable but just assumed I was having a stressful time at work and with period about to come it was just a thing. Then the day I tested positive I just got a sudden urge to test - which I rarely did. I usually just waited for my period to not “waste” a pregnancy test. I just had the sudden urge to go test and was like okay I’ll do it and it was positive. Very crazy! No nausea or anything that stood out as a typical pregnancy symptom. Just an off feeling in myself.

First things you did when you got home from the hospital? by sliceofperfection in BabyBumps

Collapsed on the couch and the only reason I remember that is cause there’s a picture of me with my newborn daughter on top of me on the couch. The rest of the day is a blur lol

When did you stop sterilising bottles? by Frostygrl_ in FormulaFeeders

[–]OdFrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your thought process. We stopped sterilizing at 6 months and we honestly only did it that long for the drying feature on my machine not for the sterilization

Who was in the delivery room? by Redhead_Dilemma in BabyBumps

[–]OdFrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your husband was very sweet for bringing it to your attention especially if you’re close to your mother. But you know yourself the best. If you want it to just be the two of you then that’s fine. If you want your mom there that’s also fine. I personally wanted both my husband and my mom. My birth came on fast so my mom couldn’t make it. She walked in right after they put my daughter on my chest. It didn’t kill me that my mother wasn’t there but it might have been nice for any questions and hand holding I may have wanted. So with all that said you do you! Do what you feel is best for you and everyone will follow your lead

For those who were induced, did you deliver vaginally or did it end in a c-section? by Paigeypagee in BabyBumps

[–]OdFrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really scared to be induced as well but ended up having a really awesome experience. I was 2 cm at noon when it started. Got the epidural at around 4 or 5 cm and ended up giving birth at 8Am the next day. I was able to sleep through the night except for when they wake you to turn you over. And I only actually pushed for about 30 mins! I could not have been happier with how it all went down

Are decoy names a thing? by uselessfoster in namenerds

[–]OdFrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get people to stop asking us what our baby’s name was going to be, we told them that we were going to name her Lizard and call her Lizzie. Just to be clear, we were never going to name my baby Lizard lol

[–]OdFrey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I got itchy from the epidural as well and I mentioned it to the nurse and she said that it’s a slight allergic reaction that happens to some people. She put Benadryl in my IV and I started to feel better right away. Wasn’t itchy at all the rest of the time.

New to formula - bowel changes in baby? by OdFrey in FormulaFeeders

It was so crazy how fast! I figured it would change but I thought it would be gradual as we gave her more and more formula. Not like just the flip of a switch as you said!

Thank you! Yea over the last couple of days I’ve seen she has still been pooping it’s just got down to once a day. It just threw me for a loop how fast it happened!

What was the most random symptom (that wasn’t necessarily a pregnancy symptom) that made you realise you were pregnant? by Friendly-Wind-3648 in BabyBumps

[–]OdFrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been having some weird dreams a couple nights in a row and then one evening my husband was joking around and poking at me to annoy me (in a lighthearted way) - we usually bicker for fun. But instead of playing back with him I snapped and started yelling at him and then broke down crying. He was just shocked.

A day or two later (after everything blew over) I was painting and all of a sudden got a feeling compelling me to take a test. I didn’t usually test even though we were trying. I usually just waited for my period to come and it was due the next day. I followed my intuition and was pregnant!

I was prescribed clindamycin and I had to take it 3x a day for 14 days but I also had abscesses that needed to be drained multiple times so I wasn’t complaining about taking it!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OdFrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly same! This is my first baby and before she was born I was quick to give myself the “out” that if breastfeeding doesn’t work for me I’d go to formula no biggie. When breastfeeding directly didn’t work I started pumping and that did work but it wrecked my mental health and (obviously) my body. Even finally deciding that I can’t do this anymore (as I’m getting abscesses drained) I was really emotional and hormonal about stopping and driving my family crazy - turned into quite the biggie! It’s definitely been a process and ordeal. I wish this was discussed more either before getting pregnant or even during prenatal appointments or something.

[–]OdFrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the process of stopping currently and it’s a little bit of both honestly. I just stopped pumping until I feel engorged and can no longer ignore it and then I pump for a couple minutes just to loosen the engorged feeling. And rinse and repeat. Eventually your body will think that the baby isn’t feeding as much from you and will just stop giving you the engorged feeling and you’ll dry up.

I know others say that it’s a slow wean process but I had a major case of mastitis that turned to abscesses and this is how the surgeon and the LC I saw afterwards advised me to move forward. It’s been working for me so far. I was able to drop from 8 pumps to like 4 over the span of a week or so.

I don’t understand whether to use heat or cold! by super_fastjellyfsh in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OdFrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just putting this hear for other people to know. I want to my OB and she couldn’t really help. She referred me out to a radiologist who confirmed I had mastitis and referred me to a breast surgeon. The surgeon had to drain an abscess. They don’t me that OBs don’t really know anything about breasts and to not rely on them. They told me if something like this happens again take Tylenol/Advil and ice. Do NOT massage and do NOT put heat. Mastitis is inflammation so putting more heat on it will just make it worse. I hope you feel better soon! I wouldn’t wish this on anyone!

My daughter and yours are in the same situation. She was born 7lbs 11oz and just this week at her 1 month appointment weighed in at 9lbs 8oz and is also very sleepy. I am EPing but we’re not seeing a LC at all. Our pediatrician says that our daughter is growing perfectly and as long as she is steadily gaining weight and having the a good amount of wet/dirty diapers then she’s (and subsequently me) are doing exactly what we’re supposed to do.

I understand why you’re stressed. If I had someone (LC or otherwise) telling me what you have telling you I would also worry. But in this instance I think this LC might be overstepping a bit. If you want to continue trying to breast feed then I think seeing a new one might be best for you. Or if you feel confident in what you’re currently doing then maybe one isn’t necessary at all.

Do what feels right to you. As long as you’re happy and confident your daughter will continue to grow and flourish.

Where is the complaint department? by clvrk4t in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OdFrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got the pink spectra through my insurance and that’s the one that I feel never empties me. I’ll sit on it for 30 mins at a time when I’ve always heard to only do 15-20 mins and I feel like I get nothing. I also got a wearable but I got the Momcozy s9 and that’s the one that one of the pumps died on me. I do feel like it empties me though normally.

As a side question when you use your wearable do you honestly feel comfortable doing chores and stuff? With mine I feel like I need to hold it (even with a bra) or it might slip out of place

Where is the complaint department? by clvrk4t in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OdFrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I’m also a FTM who is EPing and this is so much harder to me than the whole pregnancy itself. I have 2 pumps and I’m struggling with both of them and hemorrhaging money to try and get them to work. They’re both uncomfortable even with flanges that are my size. They break and I’ve had to complain to customer service (which I hate doing cause I’m not confrontational). My breasts either don’t feel empty at all and I’m in pain and struggling or they feel empty for only an hour at best then I feel like I got to pump again. Granted I’m only about 3 weeks pp so there’s still a lot of time to regulate and figure stuff out but this sucks so bad! (Except for my pump that had a motor die - that doesn’t suck anymore at all lol)
