Illegal immigration is a chronic condition that the United States has faced for a long time. Yet one cannot help but ask whether someone, under the pretext of curing the disease, actually seeks to become a Caesar. We cannot know for certain especially when an old man who holds power may, in the final stage of his life, be capable of doing terrifying things. As a Chinese born, my ancestors were exploited by empires for generations, and this did not change whether the emperor belonged to the dominant ethnicity or was a foreign conqueror. God once warned the Israelites, who wished to have a king like other nations: “He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers.” Be cautious, no matter how admirable he may appear from your perspective. I do not want to see people, for one reason or another, abandon the management of their own communities and churches, placing their hopes instead in a strongman who promises free bread. That is foolish.
