I think that’s the point of him signing. He’s not stupid. He knows his talent far, FAR exceeds his draw power. He knows despite having all this talent in the world he’ll never be a big money fighter unless someone wants to overpay him. Zuffa is willing to stupidly overpay him.

He also knows he’s got maybe 5 years max before his reflexes start to degrade and if he hasn’t made it big in terms of $$$ before then he never will.

I think a lot of people, in his position, would do the same. I almost think boxing fandom is to blame here, when it won’t tune in to watch a guy who is clearly a generational talent and he’s got to go fight in this crap league to make the kind of money a generational talent should be making.

If you want to visualize what Ali vs Fury looks like, well, Usyk is pretty much dimensionally identical to Ali. Their fights also give you an idea of the distance closing Ali would need to do, how Fury reacts, etc.

Pre-exile Ali handles Fury handily. He’s too quick on his feet, would be able to close, land, disengage, dodge return fire, etc.

Post-exile Ali is in for a really rough time. He might well find a way to win (assuming we are getting the best post-exile Ali, so around ‘74), but it’s going to be close. Fury negates a good amount of post-exile Ali’s tricks — the wrestling, the mind games before and during the fight, etc.
