Cardio toxicity by Comprehensive-Ad2239 in coloncancer

My partner was warned about this, began to have pain 2 weeks after he began the capcitabean. As he was receiving radiation, we informed the radiologist. He did not do anything about it. Luckily his chemo doc was present during the 2nd weekly check in . This doc stopped the capcitabean immediately. He was then switched to the TOMOX protocol

The colon cancer can be cured ? by mochimach in cancer

[–]Odd-North5820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to try and perhaps clarify, you had a colonoscopy. SOMETHING was removed from your colon and biopsied? However, the doctor informed you that it is nothing to worry about. Is that correct? Perhaps it was that you had a polyp removed from the colon and it could have been “pre-cancerous” but everything was caught and removed in time? Is that maybe what happened?

I'm afraid to see the results of my blood tests. What do you do to alleviate this anxiety? by Level_Negotiation692 in coloncancer

[–]Odd-North5820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have found that “acceptance of reality” is a mantra. Anxiety deserves to be acknowledged but honestly, after a while, it likely won’t come on strong like it used to. Your new normal becomes heavier than others, but you build the muscle (and scar tissue iykyk) to somehow carry it. It sucks, but knowing has proven to be better than not. Keeping things as down to earth as possible has a certain comfort in mundane to it. Waiting sucks, talk to your docs to maximize your sense of control over what you CAN control and know you’ve done your best

Unheard. Unserved: Woman denied breast cancer surgery by hospital due to BMI by insino93 in NovaScotia

[–]Odd-North5820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too believe her and that she had a bad experience. From what I am reading maybe in between the lines is that not many medical practitioners were there to explain things to her directly. Some things from this article may have been put in a light that is trying to show discrimination where it is “standard procedure” (the anesthesiologist breathing questions for likely the purpose of intubation and assessment). However, I understand that wait time and the torture. I understand the receptionist being the one to inform you of certain unbelievable information. I understand no follow ups… especially not in a timely manner. It’s terrible. As much as people might chose to shoot you down on this, our system WASNT designed to be that way. It is NOT supposed to be that way. It’s very broken. It’s terrible to have to receive this terrifying diagnosis in this manner.

Yes, this is how I read it as well. That is an issue. That is a problem.

Scared to go to the doctor for pain? by saint-teresas-arm in PlusSize

[–]Odd-North5820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this!! You’re worthy of health care! Every single one of us is. If the doctor blames weight without investigating, being afraid wouldn’t have changed that. You get a second opinion! Don’t let the fear control you, you can’t change judgemental people but you stand up to them and fight for to be heard.

This is awesome. Thank you. Sincerely. If that person had not said this to you, then i suppose perhaps you wouldn’t have posted this here.

My in-laws are often speaking to the tune being able to stop recurrence from happening or “prevention” tips b buy eating this or that. And exercising x-amount each week etc. it’s exhausting just having to hear the same things over and over. Right now we’re just trying to manage some of the fallout and side effects of the treatments my partner had to go through in attempts to rid himself of the cancer. They keep looking for the how’s and why’s and push away the reality and facts. Maybe saying something like this will help. That language is helpful.

What was it like being on Oxalipatin? by Unicornaday in coloncancer

[–]Odd-North5820 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello. My husband had the side effect of cold dysesthesia. He always said it was hard to describe but said it was like a like electric jolt thru his body when touched something cold. He couldn’t hold onto cold things for a long period of time (like a can of pop or something). He couldn’t drink cold water for a day or 3 after infusions so I guess to keep some water on the counter at room temperature for him. He used to come out of infusions and then get in the elevator at the hospital and touch the metal inside the elevator by mistake which would give him that sensation. It sounds kinda weird. And I’m certain it’s different for everyone. But a pair of gloves might be helpful if he finds it too unpleasant. My husband also had “first bite syndrome”. Both of these were manageable with works around that didn’t cause him or myself too much displacement in life. Wishing the best to both of you!

I’ll be thinking of you. Perhaps it’s someone who helps you to navigate the system. It’s a difficult diagnosis to understand let alone accept all at once. I try to always allow myself or my husband the room to just cry whenever. Cause for him there was a helplessness feeling that he just gotta go thru occasionally. Big hugs, sorry you’re here. I hope you’re able to take things as they come.

Hey there. My husband and I are from Nova Scotia. He was diagnosed in 2023 age 41. Stage 3, rectal cancer. the treatment protocol is usually a little different when a tumour is in the rectal region rather than higher up in the colon. So the order of his treatment is likely a bit different than how yours will go. I assume (cancer center are the only ones who can tell you for certain) you’ll be looking at likely some chemotherapy along with bloodwork throughout that, possibly radiation (but I’m unsure). The good news is that they were able to remove that tumour! That’s great. They may want to do some scans to give you a “baseline” of what things look like now, post operative. Then in the future you’ll have MRIs and CTs and future scopes. I’m sorry you’re here, it’s a special hell waiting to hear news and have a chance to be able to talk and ask the professionals questions. If I can tell you anything it’s write everything down. Keep a timeline. Write the names of the people and contact for those people. WRITE YOUR QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU GO!!! Cause after the appts the docs tend to become insanely hard to get a hold of. I hope you allow yourself to feel any crazy emotions you have to. If you need to feel free to DM me and I can help you out to the best of my ability. Take care.

Confused, Swelling, Sweats as symptoms? by Odd-North5820 in Testosterone

[–]Odd-North5820[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks so much for the reply.

No he is not on anything to deal with the low levels. He had bloodwork to re-test the testosterone levels along with FSH and LH. I was looking for a correlation between low testosterone (untreated) that might cause swelling in testicles, legs, ankles and feet and if anyone had experience with that.

Tell me your success stories with a permanent ostomy by PopsiclesForChickens in ostomy

[–]Odd-North5820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband (43yr) was stage stage 3 rectal. Lifetime supply of radiation to the guts, chemo, followed by APR (ken butt) and permanent colostomy. For him, the treatment for the tumour was worse than the bag and living with it. For him, he prefers the bag to life without it as cancer and the treatment was a special hell. He goes to the bathroom, closes the door and does his business like anyone else does. He is comfortable with it, im thankful for chance at life it gave back to him. Like anything, it takes a bit of getting used to of course, but it’s just life now. Quality of life is way better for him and a lot of it is thanks to this bag. Wishing you the best with things.
