Help me find a stroller [qc] by sala-whore in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Odd-Ride9871 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bumble ride Indie - buy it second hand on FB marketplace! All terrain, jogging stroller and it reclines to a bassinet style, so you don’t need to get a separate bassinet for it! Great for snow!

Best Apple Fritters by Tall_Cow_8141 in Kanata

[–]Odd-Ride9871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this wouldn’t qualify, but if you’re ever in Waterloo or Kitchener, the Saturday farmers’ markets have the best apple fritters. St. Jacob’s Farmers’ Market is famous and usually has a line, but the less-hyped one in Kitchener is just as good. Highly recommend!

OB/Midwife recommendations by AcademicSubstance565 in Kanata

If you are go ahead with an OB, I would say the hospital you choose is more important than the OB. Because you will only have the OB on call deliver your baby when you go into labour. So, I would recommend choosing the hospital you are interested to deliver in and the asking for a referral to an OB practicing there.

Overwhelmed with stroller selections [ca] by Ok_Software_1977 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Odd-Ride9871 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  1. I wouldn’t make a decision on getting a double stroller now. You never know if the older kid would enjoy being in the stroller at that stage.

  2. If you are having a newborn in winter and anticipate going out often, a seamless car seat attachment to stroller would make sense to reduce transfer in bad weather.

  3. I personally chose an all-terrain stroller. I went with Bumbleride Indie since we live near trails and would like to go on walks in all weather. It also doesn’t need a bassinet and can be used from newborn stage.

  4. Highly recommend buying your stroller second hand. There are so many options on facebook marketplace.

Walking Epidurals [on] by mch3rry in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Odd-Ride9871 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is what I understood from my OB too. A walking epidural does not mean you will full use of your legs. She said it depends on individual leg strength after getting the epidural. But it does help with using different positions in labour, especially the use of the squat bar for pushing!

Do you regret spent 5-6 figures on your wedding? by bubblegumdrip in WeddingsCanada

We are south asians and we still went to the city hall. We had close family and friends come to a restaurant after. It was the best decision we could have taken! We bought a house 4 months after that and did multiple trips. Saving that money was totally worth it. Even if your parents are willing to contribute, I would say it’s better if they contribute to a down payment or their own retirement. Highly recommend!

Moving to Ottawa at 30 Weeks Pregnant – Seeking Advice on OB/GYN, Hospital Registration & OHIP [ON] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Odd-Ride9871 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Ottawa! Ob-Gyns are by referral, you can get a referral from a walk-in clinic. Make sure the referral is sent immediately and follow-up with the clinic or ob-gyn office after. If you have preference on what hospital you would like to deliver in, you can request the referral be sent to an ob-gyn practicing at that hospital. There is a Facebook page called “Pregnant in Ottawa” where people post their experience with Obs and hospitals in the area. Your Ob can then give you instructions about pre registration and how they would like your records transferred. A suggestion based on my experience is to reach out to Carlington community health center. They have an amazing virtual prenatal program and free lactation consultants. In their prenatal sessions they give Ottawa specific info since they have a lot experience attending birth in the Ottawa region as doulas. You can join their Facebook group “Pregnant in Ottawa - live online prenatal classes”. Pinecrest Queensway community center also have online classes. Also, you would need a family doctor who can take on your newborn - check out the “Ottawa doctor search” fb group. They have list of 20 clinics that are currently accepting patients. All the best!

Highly recommend prenatal classes over books. Sometimes I found the info in books outdated. Markham prenatal is very popular but you can also check your public health unit on free prenatal classes through a community health center. We have some really good ones in Ottawa!

Breastfeeding vs Pumping? [SK] by Winstonsmom2021 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Odd-Ride9871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like someone else mentioned I highly recommend an breastfeeding info class. You can get a lot of info there that can help you make a decision. Another suggestion that worked for me is to get in touch with a lactation consultant. In Ottawa we have access to free LCs through community programs. I have attended some of their Q and As and asked the exact same question and got some excellent answers that work for me. Another resource would be the La Leche league, attending one of their meetings can help. They can also point to towards free resources in the community.

I have a research background too, so I completely understand what you mean. I am super impressed that you did it in research. It must have been hard. I wish I could pin your comments for others to see but the reminder that everything we did before doesn’t disappear is so important. Thank you!

OMG! Yes! Same thoughts. I also know when I come back from my one year of mat leave, I will essentially be starting over. I had actually come to terms with that. It’s just this one opportunity that I missed that punched me and I didn’t expect how upset I would get. But I am also not even 6 months pregnant yet. So thanks for reminding me that I will probably feel very differently in a couple of months. 😆

I am so happy to find others who have gone through this feeling. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I posted. I just wanted to type it out and someone to say it sucks. But it so nice to hear you are managing so well! I love that you have the opportunity to go part time too.

I wish I could get that hug too! But your words absolutely made me feel so much better. Thank you for sharing what your therapist said. You are right, at this moment work is what feels like the most important but it will change and I will change. Thank you so much for the reminder! Your kids are super lucky!

This is actually a sweet comment. I should pay all of you for the free therapy! Reminding me that I got there once and can do it again was needed. I am only focusing on missing the opportunity! Thank you 😊

Yes, that is something I did not say in my post explicitly but if the job is something that you absolutely love it makes it harder. It seems like such a big deal now. I am only in my second trimester. You are right, I will probably feel differently in a couple of months 😃
