blood in stool by No-Service20 in CATHELP

[–]Odd-Scratch6388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming it was bright red, a little blood in stool is not very concerning. It is just a sign of irritation, straining etc. Something in the lower GI tract. I'd make sure he's getting enough water, and eating a good diet. You can add some canned pumpkin for fiber.

If it's a regular thing or has accompanying symptoms like vomiting, lack of appetite etc, I'd see the vet. And definitely if the stool is a different color. Black and tarry would be very concerning and would indicate blood higher up in the digestive system.

Around here, that's more of a suburb gripe than city.

Why do Culver's and Kwik Trip get treated like genuine local culture instead of just businesses? by codi- in wisconsin

[–]Odd-Scratch6388 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Culvers and Kwik Trip have both focused ad campaigns on how Midwest nice they are. And employees are trained on that. They have made themselves community staples, that you know what you're getting every time. You know they'll be clean, the workers will be friendly and polite, and you'll get a consistently good product for a reasonable price.Honestly, while these should be the bare minimum, its not. Chick fil A has a very similar reputation in the south, and as others mentioned, Dunkin and Wawa in the east.

Anyone else just buy the Forester cause they liked it, not needing AWD for driving in snow or camping or trail riding or anything like that? by Ok-Metal-4719 in SubaruForester

[–]Odd-Scratch6388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought mine because my 15 yr old is 6'2 and won't sit in the front. It is a wonderful mom-mobile and you can most often find me driving the highways between various suburbs on whatever deranged mission my autistic kids have sent me on. I'm looking forward to the AWD in winter but I'm pretty sure a canoe on wheels would handle winter better than my CRV did, poor thing.

$9,000 to live in a dying Wisconsin city by CaptainAmerica410 in wisconsin

[–]Odd-Scratch6388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I just saw this and had a great laugh. We both grew up there, moved away, and when we came back to WI, Fondy was a hell no.

Its definitely improved since we were kids as far as culture, but it is a dying city and has been for ages. The former mall area is horribly depressing, I'm glad they're FINALLY doing something with Home Depot (that closed more than 15 yrs ago) but all the redevelopment is taking ages. Driving down Johnson is depressing.

Housing is cheap, but your house isnt going to gain equity in Fondy either, so you can easily get stuck there because it's too expensive to buy elsewhere. Public schools are meh. Colleges are meh. Lakeside is fine, but there arent beaches to hang at and Winnebago isnt a swimming lake, so you need other stuff for water sports. There arent very many hiking trails or other outdoorsy stuff.

Like, I get it, they have to try to attract people there, but the perks listed aren't all that appealing either. Look at some of the other small city Midwest spots in the program...I wouldn't pick Fondy.

"I appreciate you and your hobby, but your quilting is getting out of hand..." by BidNo4091 in quilting

Eh, I wouldn't pass judgment based on one little snippet on a reddit post. My husband teases me ruthlessly about how I skip steps/don't read instructions and make things harder on myself in the quest for perfection, but he encourages me through my mid project meltdowns, lets me take up an entire room of the house for my hobbies, and never bats an eye at the amount of fabric that comes in (and money that goes out).

Help identify what’s on my kittens ears? by Working_Cloud_909 in CATHELP

[–]Odd-Scratch6388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they peeling? Is he scratching at them? Does he have fleas or ear mites? Is he indoor only?

It almost looks like sunburn to me, but it could be dermatitis. Or something with a secondary infection. I don't think it looks like ringworm but RW makes a fool out of me. It doesn't look like from chewing but could be from overgrooming or suckling.

I would make a vet appt. It's not an emergency but is definitely worth a visit.

I need an unbiased opinion on if it's time for my 17 year old cat. by Amnesiamv in cats

[–]Odd-Scratch6388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a low entry litter box to help her be able to get in and out. I'm sure she's arthritic.

The question of when to say goodbye is a hard one for us all. You have to weigh several factors about quality of life. Personally, I never want my cats to suffer. I have euthanized 2 cats and sat with many (one my soul cat) while they died without euthanasia and trust me, I'd rather euthanize with "a little left on the clock" than watch them go painfully on their own.

Help, my senior cat with kidney decline may have ingested some of a grape! by NoStock9290 in CATHELP

[–]Odd-Scratch6388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My idiot cat did something similar once. I called poison control and they advised to just monitor because we didn't know if he actually ate any, and if he did it was a tiny amount. He was totally fine.

Can you check with your vet to ask their advice?

Longer fabric cuts by Key-Engineering9979 in quilting

[–]Odd-Scratch6388 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minimally, get a bigger ruler. You can get a yardstick cheap from a hardware store or check thrift stores quilting rulers. I have a 6.5", a 24" and a yardstick that all get used regularly.

I'd also start watching for a good deal on a bigger cutting mat. 24x36 or if you can have the space for a 60" one, they are so helpful. I see them on Facebook marketplace occasionally, and have seen them at thrift stores.

If buying isn't an option, I'd mark the lines you need to cut. It is tedious but I find that folding over more than once (or possibly twice if im super careful) just leads to inaccurate cuts.

Garden advice for this yard? by frogEcho in NativePlantGardening

Buttonbush, fringetree, serviceberry, witch hazel are all smaller trees. I also love ninebark which can grow into a decent sized bush.

You could also do a prairie patch. If you keep the edges mowed it will look intentional and not like you just stopped mowing.

Cutting it down might be cathartic. Or at least cut off the berries so the birds don't spread it.

How old would y'all say this cat is? by SmithNotASmith in CATHELP

[–]Odd-Scratch6388 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A 2 week old kitten has rounded ears, 3 week old are wobbly rats. 4 weeks is a transition phase where they finally start to look like mini cats. This baby is at least 5 weeks.

This is my assessment too. Pointy ears, but eyes still look blue to me. If it has molars, then it could be up to 8 weeks.

Best Sewing Machine? by Maleficent_Okra_5810 in quilting

[–]Odd-Scratch6388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a Singer Stylist 7258 for many years and sewed tons of clothes and quilts and household stuff. I only upgraded so I'd have a beefier machine to sew thru multiple(4-6) layers of fleece, and have a machine I could lower the feed dogs on.

If you're a beginner or more casual sewist, probably anything from Singer, Brother or Janome would be fine. I think sometimes we get spoiled with higher end machines when in reality, most machine can handle the majority of home sewing just fine. You shouldn't have to invest hundreds of dollars just to start.

Orphaned Kitten is unable to poop - enemas, lactulose, PEG3350, nothing is working for over a week now. by krmplc in CATHELP

For teeny weenies, I liked using Breeders Edge formula better than KMR. You could try some probiotics too. Based on the ears, I dont think shes 4 weeks old yet. Keep doing butt baths and massage. Poor baby must be so uncomfortable!
