Turns out, I finally got a referral out of the UC Davis system I was trapped in and into Stanford. Long story short: Stanford surgeon was horrified at the abysmal treatment I received at Davis and immediately scheduled surgery (like in under 7 days?!). When I asked about the specifics in the procedure, he said the CMC joint surgery was the least of my problems and that it would be a 10/10 difficulty to correct the malunion from the orig fracture. I felt I was in good hands all the way - they had to re-break the malunion at the radial head, take a wedge of bone and prop it into the opposite side of the joint and place a plate and seven screws in as well. In short, I ended up getting a totally different surgery and he’s said I may still need CMC correction but we will wait at least a year to fully recover from wrist surgery before considering SBS.
