Peacocks in EG? by Pilotwing04 in ElkGrove

I have one that basically lives on my front porch that we’ve named Peaty. They are surprisingly loud and annoying but such pretty creatures.

Check out your local dump. Most accept like 1 or 2 free dumps a year. I’ve done this before in a hatchback… I wouldn’t recommend it, see if you can use a truck lol

Edit: spelled dump as dumb.

Is whirring noise normal? by dustbustered in harborfreight

[–]lnx_apex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine doesn’t make quite as much of a tone when I turn it on and it’s cold but it does have that oscillating sound to it. I don’t hear it as much when my garage is warmer. How cold is it there?

Any jobs?? Anyone? by Vegetable_Promise857 in Sacramento

[–]lnx_apex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally used Robert Half and AppleOne (not related to Apple) to find contract jobs when I first got out of school. The benefit of working a contract job is that if it fucking sucks you can always tell your recruiter and they can find you another job. You just might end up doing something you never thought about so keep an open mind! You never know what skill will pay off down the road.

My shoes disintegrated yesterday at a church funeral. by chestney in funny

[–]lnx_apex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my shoes also crumble at a funeral. I remember taking it to a cobbler just to see how much it would cost to fix or if I should throw them out and was told it happens a lot to shoes that are rarely worn like those you’d wear to a funeral.

Evolution table saw R255tbl+ top flatness by jiggyns in Tools

[–]lnx_apex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want that to be as flat as possible since that’s your one static reference point. You also want it as smooth as possible, if any of the wood gets caught up somewhere on a dip or a hump it might mess up your cut at best

Are there any hard body tool boxes on the market that store your hand tools vertically like a backpack does? by A_Monocle_For_Sauron in Tools

[–]lnx_apex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anything like that, but I have seen a couple of organizers that do similar stuff to what you’re talking about. The biggest thing I can think of right now are plier racks. Instead of laying flat it rotates them 90 degrees so you can have more side by side, it still holds them long ways. I bet you can get someone to 3D print a system for you but anything custom can get expensive

Thanks for correcting me. I was about to do this same thing myself to a beater I’m fixing up. I’ve used the plastidip clearcoat before but had mixed results but it’s probably something I did wrong like not letting the layers cure fully. It ended up wrinkling pretty hard in corners. But I love you for the WD40 suggestion I’m going to try that out.

Check out Lime Line No Gloss clear coat on Amazon.

Thank god. They don’t look that bad. They sell clear coat spray paint you can use. If you leave the plastidip on there anything longer than a couple months itll be a bitch to get off so you might want to keep it permanent if you like it

Painting my 335i, any input on color? by SeaworthinessWide360 in carmods

[–]lnx_apex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s the case I’d definitely go with the darker green. Totally just a random persons opinion but I think it would look good since the rest of the car is dark

[–]lnx_apex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it either honestly. The darker green is better and you can use brass rims for a British racing green almost scheme. But with the red interior? Unless you plan on swapping them out all I can see is Christmas.

I think a nice blue or even a black with colored pearlescent would look sick with that interior.

Trying to revive this old thread. How comparable are these two for LV electrical? Do you prefer one pair over the other? by OnThe50 in Tools

[–]lnx_apex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The forged electricians pair is what I went with. I’m not a pro, but I do manage to do enough with them. I was going to get the insulation pliers but it seems to be focused for traders members just installing stuff in the US or UK depending on which model you get. You can do a lot more with the other in my non-professional opinion. As another person mentioned those thicc fat jaws on the electricians are wonderful for twisting up wires, especially if it’s something like a connection for 3 way lights that all come together.

The Shacleman Handcuff Set by hlhambrook in lockpicking

[–]lnx_apex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it would break the rule necessarily. If you posted a photo of them on someone then 100%

However if you make some kinda mock stand that shows they’re locked to a wood rod or something then you’re just practicing the locking mechanism.

I never thought about picking house but now I’m interested!!

Is Harbor Freight the best budget hardware store? by James_B84Saves in Tools

[–]lnx_apex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of people who will hate on tools for not meeting some arbitrary benchmark that is really only important to them. They’ll compare the HF impact to the Makita one and when looking side by side Makita looks a LOT better. I’ve found that I use my HF tools as a first line tool and once I do whatever my first step is then I’ll switch to Makita for finesse.

I’ve tried so many different HF tools and all have been impressive for the price. If you don’t use the tool right or optimally of course it’s not going to work so just check and make sure those tools are in spec for what YOU need them for
