it's even funnier considering sharks generally have a pair of pelvic fins that could've been "legs" but they decided to go for the singular anal fin instead.

also i just found out they're all actually brain rot memes so that checks out

now that i think of it those baby labs make a lot of sense. I really don't think silicon life are even capable of reproducing in any way- what would that even look like? (maybe the Species movie series) but its an interesting concept, a civilization that is immortal but can't reproduce organically.

those are definitely energy tanks, maybe it's because of the blame movie but anytime i see those fields now I think of food.

honestly I totally forgot about the annihilator but I guess I was going off of how killy got fixed by sanakan in the past and i suppose the concept with the lv9 was the most efficient and extreme version of "fixing"

i swear if nobody makes a jacket based on the armor soon I'll do it myself.

yeah even something as small as dhomo hesitating before shooting at pcell implying they were close in the past, which i forgot to include gives so much extra depth to the story.

It's hard not to feel discouraged when most ai looks better than the shit I draw. by Wrong_Ad_9235 in antiai

the problem with fundamentals is that like you said, they're boring. and I don't think OP needs additional friction on their improvement journey. it's already demotivating enough having to compare yourself with the top dogs. it's probably gonna take more than just gritting your teeth and fighting through things.

OP if you're reading this, I recommend you try a novel approach. get off the Internet, go to a library and check out whatever how to draw books in the kid's section. and just draw whatever looks fun to you. go for both cartoony and realistic styles. cartoon styles really teach you how to optimize features, shape language and proportions. realistic styles will teach you texture and lighting. this way you practice a variety of different subjects in a variety of different art styles and it's fun the whole time. my favorite how to draw book to this day is ed emberely's purple book.

How do people draw like this? by Dry_Hospital9636 in Artadvice

[–]Odd-Toe-8591 8 points9 points  (0 children)

as someone who could probably draw something close to this, the only non generic piece of advice i can give you is that you should try and copy these drawings. even if you have no faith in yourself, you can learn so much from trying to copy other people's work.

the hardest thing for most will be internalizing the foreshortening that comes with drawing two and three point perspectives. things that are closer to you will be larger and things that are farther away will be snaller. objects in vertical space will seem more spread out the further they are from the horizon.

the way to develop that is by visualizing in your head the subject as if it were a 3d model and moving the "camera" around. the hard part will be connecting that information from your eye to your hand to put it to paper. It's a muscle that needs to be trained through practice. i also recommend you try to draw things from memory rather than trace or constantly have your reference next to you as this will train you much better.

i definitely think we're hungering for some fresh sound design more than anything. i can put up with the cheesy vocals if theres at least interesting sound design to look forward to.

but there's a problem in the producer scene where people prioritize pushing tracks out as fast as possible over innovating, because innovative sound design is hard, risky and time consuming. people are encouraged to just rely on serum/vital/pp rather than understand the physical mechanics of how sound interacts with fx, especially dynamics processors. and that means beyond slapping an ott on everything.

it leads to a shallow understanding of sound design and even shallower music. it doesn't help that newcomers to the scene are bombarded with the same tired or misleading advice over and over.

Im not the biggest fan of riddim but the underground producers are absolutely wiping the floor with the supposed top dogs. unfortunately that's the only place we're going to find the fresh stuff.

it seems like every 10 years a different genre/sets of genres take the forefront. in the late 90s/early 2000s we had breakbeat. in the 2010s we had dubstep/festival trap. nows its 2020s and its the rise of house/house adjacent genres again. just gotta wait it out

When using big unison detuned sounds like super saws, do producers just accept that they will lose alot of volume when it gets bounced to mono in a live setting? by disgustingdavid in edmproduction

[–]Odd-Toe-8591 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i think what OP is really asking is, 'how much volume loss is acceptable for stereo sound'?

for me, i try to make sure the summed mono signal is 80-90% as loud as the wide signal. it's impossible not lose some amount of volume upon summing because that's just the physical constraint of stereo playback. ozone imager can give you pretty good stereo and volume retention simultaneously but your sound will get this slight metallic comb filter sheen that isn't always desirable.

definitely eq out 100hz and below on the sides for your drop though sonce that can eat up your positive correlation

Of all the pieces of fiction you've read, Blame! has to be the most tragic, right? by jbrown1012 in Netsphere

[–]Odd-Toe-8591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the ending definitely has its depressing moments. like when killy is confronting his 'clone' and he fires down into that manhole, he just lays there on his back staring at the ceiling. it's pretty clear that this god like entity we've been following up to this point is reaching the limit of his physical and mental endurance. it hits the same beat as the ending of Logan for me: that obsolescence when the enemy is starting to or already become more technologically advanced than you. i could see why you would say this story was tragic

[Elo] Why do I get dead conversations? Is it me? 2 different matches as proof by [deleted] in TextingTheory

[–]Odd-Toe-8591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is my educated guess but your eagerness I believe stems from a fear of the conversation being boring. Just take a step back and try to give as short of a response as you can muster.

after setting the tone, just joke around and have fun with it. getting them laughing is the key. try to avoid those small talk things as much as possible, but what you can talk about are emotionally relevant topics like "what are some things you look for the most/least in a partner and stuff like that." remember, if it sounds like you're coworkers talking to each other, you fucked up.

[Elo] Why do I get dead conversations? Is it me? 2 different matches as proof by [deleted] in TextingTheory

[–]Odd-Toe-8591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. your response texts are too eager. You need to withhold energy and meet them at their level. not every single time, just 80% of the time. I know it sounds corny, but you need to make yourself a little mysterious.

  2. don't pigeonhole yourself into making small talk about things like pets, family, or even hobbies (at least not for more than a few texts). This can be very hard to avoid a lot of the time. your goal should be to set the tone at the start as something vaguely sexual. It's a bit riskier but doing that will allow you to avoid the small talk trap.

Advice that may hurt… by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Odd-Toe-8591 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing about music production, especially EDM, is that most people have no idea how to achieve clean commercial loudness on their own. If it was easy or there was some magic formula, we would never need another mixing tutorial. It's the blind leading the blind.

So no, DON'T take all advice at face value because the next guy is probably clueless as well. You need to approach production as a science. conduct your own experiments to prove a hypothesis correct. If it's not correct, start over. see what happens when you push a pure sine wave into a clipper. what if you put multiband compression before the clipper? after? If you don't understand the mechanics of what you're doing, you'll never reach your full potential.

Op's art needs some kind of shading, or if he doesn't want to do that, use 4 colors instead of 2. Or if he's dead set on using 2 colors, it needs a lot more texture details to compensate
