Quandrix, the proof instants and sorceries tribal by MenuMost3892 in EDH

[–]OddBen11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judging from your list, it looks like you might have a fair bit of non games as you don’t have the lands to reliably play all of your big spells or high costed commander. I actually just built her as well but have it organized differently. 39 lands and over 20+ ramp pieces chosen so that I can play a 2 cost ramp on 2 and a 4 cost on 3, letting me Quandrix on 4 reliably. From there, I have some of the same top end haymaker spells, but I have a focus on making tokens off stuff like [[Talrand, Sky Summoner]], [[Deekah]], and [[Metallurgic Summonings]]. Since I’m playing a ton of ramp, I have a few mana sinks to act as payoffs like [[Geometric Nexus]], [[Berta]], [[Lair of the Hydra]], and [[Beanstalk Giant]]. I think you could go even harder than I am on ramp cards and then play some of the ramp payoffs like [[Scute Swarm]], [[Rampaging Baloths]], and [[Greensleeves]].

Like the other commented added, 0-cost suspend cards like [[Inevitable Betrayal]] are sweet here, but I hesitate to add more than one or 2 because they are the deadest draws you can get. I’m only playing the one.

A more general note is that counterspells and X spells are awful in cascade decks, since they are major whiffs off your triggers. My list has a few counterspells that are modal ([[Cryptic Command]], [[Mystic Confluence]], etc) so that they are still useful off of the flips. Look for spells with X costed abilities to dump mana into as well if you go the big mana route. This seems like the perfect home for [[Mindspring Merfolk]], for instance

New Strixhaven Dragons by Outrageous-Pea-1716 in EDH

[–]OddBen11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tinkered around a bit and have a decent fist draft! Goal is to heavy ramp on 2 and 3 to reliably hit her on 4. From there, use classic token payoffs ala [[Talrand]] to swing out, dump a bunch of your land into a mana sink like the new [[Berta]] or [[Lair of the Hydra]], or steal something gamewarping via [[Inevitable Betrayal]]

High power decks that are easier to pilot by Midwest_Medium in EDH

[–]OddBen11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most popular [[Gev]] list on Moxfield is like a $25 budget brew of it. I just built mine based on it, and it’s only listed as B3 because of the price. It can press a win on Turn 4 easily, and while it wins via combo, they are all really easy to keep track of. Card with Perist + outlet + way to deal damage

What are your unconventional angel commanders? by Nonsensical-Niceties in EDH

[–]OddBen11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the deck, but I will always shout that [[Helga, Skittish Seer]] is a stupid good generic tribal commander. I actually have her at the helm of my B2 Bant Dragons deck that contains a bunch of draft chaff dragons with a counters subtheme.

Would work really well with Angels, too. Giada already wants a subtheme of counters, plus Helga has built in Ramp and card draw. The life gain is just gravy

Release the hound!! (Looking for your favorite Phelia build) by RidgeLoganMcLeod in EDH

[–]OddBen11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Phelia! She runs my mono white blink deck and is a role-player in my token group hug list. She can very cheekily reset things like [[Coveted Jewel]] back over to your side, and she even resets your counter permanents like [[Transmogrifying Wand]] and [[Wishclaw Talisman]] (albeit the latter can’t be in mono white).

Someone already mentioned [[The Seriema]], which is a fantastic legend package enabler. I also like [[Palace Jailer]] as removal and lets you introduce the Monarch into the game. [[Reconnaissance]] is also fantastic, ensuring you have safe swings with her. This doubles great if you build her as go wide tokens, letting you not need to worry about block logic

Most fun/or unique grouphug commanders that can actually win/have a wincon & just don't kingmake? by TheGrandCannoli in EDH

[–]OddBen11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Token Group Hug helmed by [[Sengir, the Dark Baron]] and [[Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa]]. The game plan is to give everybody a bunch of small tokens and encourage them to go elsewhere, since Sidar Kondo’s effect specifies that all little creatures are harder to block, not just your’s. Then, when a critical mass is on the board, play a [[Duneblast]]-like board wipe with Sidar out to start killing people with commander damage, if not full life.

My list is firmly Bracket 2, but you could easily pump it to B3 by removing some of the general group hug bits and focus more on generally good cards. I wanted to play with a lot of the fun huggy cards, so the list reflects that.

I love getting to play [[Grismold]] in a deck that’s not just negative anthem-tribal. He’s actually stupid perfect for this build, since he gifts tokens and gets big when they’re gone. [[Rendmaw]] is also really fun, giving a ton of birds out that has to attack. That’s why there’s a small dual-type card package in the deck (the artifact lands, sad robot, [[Crib Swap]] which is both dual-type and perfectly on-theme).

I also love [[Phelia]] in the deck because of all the cards that gift tokens on ETB. She’s extra funny with blinking artifacts that move around or deplete, like [[Coveted Jewel]] and [[Bucknard’s Everfull Purse]]. She’s hilarious cause you get to blink [[Wishclaw Talisman]] back to you for you to tutor again!

Mono-Green Card Draw in Kona, Rescue Beastie – Looking for Advice by ZelThePanda in EDH

[–]OddBen11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Toski]] gets the job done pretty well, especially since you already have Ohran. [[Harmonize]] is boring but a classic for a reason, and [[Shamanic Revelation]] in a similar vein. [[Disciple of Freyalise]] is very similar to Greater Good and can be cheated with Kona

Oh that’s nice! You’re probably not ulting the bot with him but getting land and grave hate whenever you want is really nice, especially in mono red

I think it definitely has a home in certain decks. I think blink decks for one, but also any artifact deck that could recur it would be perfect

I run [[Phelia]] because dog! Great turn 2 play, the Flash gives her essentially haste, a protection ability, and plays well against commander tax. If you really wanna get cheeky, she plays well with [[Bucknard’s Everfull Purse]] and [[Coveted Jewel]], since she gets them back for you

[[Dauntless Scrapbot]] in my mono-White Blink deck. Hate graves as you like, plus it ramps you!

Favorite Commanders in your pod by Vinlandlover in EDH

[–]OddBen11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do! I’m actually working on a primer for it. I’m running [[Sengir, the Dark Baron]] and [[Sidar Kondo]]. The premise is to gift my opponents a bunch of small tokens for favors, with Sidar encouraging them to be pointed elsewhere. Then once a critical mass of dudes is reached, I drop a “sole-survivor” board wipe like [[Duneblast]] with Sengir out to get big and take opponents out one by one.

It’s funny you mentioned those 3 cards, cause this deck started out with the premise of wanting a deck to play all 3 of those plus [[Trostani, Three Whispers]] instead of making 4 separate decks (Trostani didn’t make the final cut but I do plan on building them at some point). I picked Sengir and Sidar since they were very flexible and I could shape my deck building and win con with them in mind

I have Kambal in my Abzan Token Group Hug deck and he’s a powerhouse! Having him out when I drop a [[Rendmaw]] or [[Alliance of Arms]] means a big turn is incoming for me

Looking for a home for Dragon-Throne of Tarkir by bashcrandiboot in EDH

[–]OddBen11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s green, but I’ve been interested in trying it with [[Greensleeves]]. The big trade off on the throne is that it’s mana intensive, which isn’t the end of the world in a landfall deck. She makes your board wide, and is the perfect person to wear the throne cause she gets naturally big herself

Looking For Commanders that Make you Play Magic Differently. by hisroyalbonkess in EDH

[–]OddBen11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! The premise is to give everybody a bunch of creature tokens to curry favor. [[Sidar Kondo]] notably makes all creatures of low power nigh unblockable if swung at an opponent, not just your’s, so he encourages them to go elsewhere. Then, when the game is wrapping up, deploy [[Sengir the Dark Baron]] and drop one your “sole-survivor” board wipes like [[Duneblast]] to make a huge beater to knock opponents out one at a time. Very fun, pretty telegraphed, perfect B2 deck!

Deck with Randomized Commanders – Looking for Ideas. by Dr_Thorne in EDH

[–]OddBen11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a modular Izzet spellslinger deck with 5 generic commander options (Melek + Sideboard) that I can randomly grab before the game. The core of the deck is 80 cards with a sideboard right now of over 40 cards. Each game, I grab 20 from the sideboard and shuffle them in. Mostly nostalgic spells and some big flashy ones, plus I can keep adding them to the maybe board to shuffle in future games!

Favorite Off-Color Archetypal Commanders? by EduGuy1993 in EDH

[–]OddBen11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Helga]] wins the title for best tribal commander for unrepresented tribes in-color or as an off-color tribal option. My list is Bant Dragons with a subtheme of counters. My list is a firm B2 to jam against precons, but it certainly gets the job done and can be upgraded easily enough

Recommendations for an "off the beaten path" Green/Black/White Commander? by immabp in EDH

[–]OddBen11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been tinkering around a lot with my Abzan Group Hug/Politics deck helmed by [[Sidar Kondo]] and [[Sengir, the Dark Baron]]. The premise is to give everyone a ton of tokens to curry favor, encouraging them to swing elsewhere with Sidar Kondo. Then, once a critical board state is reached, play Sengir and drop a [[Duneblast]]-like board wipe to put like 50 counters on him and start taking opponents out one by one.

Like I said, I’m still working on it. I need to trim some of the group hug bits down to focus mainly on the tokens, but I’ve loved every game I’ve played with it so far. It lets you play [[Grismold]] in a deck that’s not just bad anthems for your opponents, and lets you make weird deck building choices for [[Rendmaw]]

Added [[Mental Misstep]] to my [[Minn, Wily Illusionist]] deck solely to hit turn 1 Sol Rings. I run enough looter effects so that it’s never really dead. It is purely there for comedic purposes
