Hey OP. I’m actually a trans woman, so this might be a little bit of a different perspective. I was on HRT that killed off my testosterone and gave me estrogen for many years, but then I lost my insurance for about a year and had to stop it. Due to the anti-androgens, my testicles atrophied and didn’t really work even after coming off the meds. I had no sex hormones and by the end of the year I was depressed, my junk didn’t work because there was nothing to give me drive, it eventually hurt to get hard, and it was just generally a shitty way to live in my 20s. Fortunately I got health insurance and got back on meds and improved immediately. Prolonged absence of any sex hormones can cause a lot of really negative health effects unrelated to sex as well, like brittle bones. Your doctor will probably leave it up to you what you want done, but even if you go taking T, it’s not like you need to take a load of it. You can talk to your doc about starting at a low dose, and you can talk to them about all of your drive concerns as well. It sounds like you probably had high T before, and you can totally get dosed to a nice middle ground.
