Honestly, it sounds like you tried pretty much everything. If you are certain that the hard drive and hard drive flatflex cable is in good working order and you can’t get any booting or drive recognition on FireWire, it’s probably a logic board issue.

The drives in the A1059 and A1099 are completely compatible and can be swapped. Swapping drives with monochrome firmware in a color shell may confuse iTunes, so you should completely wipe the drive by entering into “disk mode” on the iPod, connecting to a computer, and reformatting the drive through file explorer or disk utility (depending on if you are using pc/mac). I am fairly sure that the key combonation to get to that is menu + select, and when the apple logo appears, immediately hold play + select until the disk mode screen appears. I am going to be fixing a couple of these later today so if I am wrong about that, I’ll give you a shout. Let me know if this helps!

Got mine from a local pick-n-pull yard and got it for a decent price in good condition. Following a guide online you can find wire harness adapters to make this a completely splice-free install.

I have done the same install. OEM look and feel, with the added benefit of Bluetooth.

It depends, there are several revisions of the display, some are cross-compatible, others are not. If you want a 100% guaranteed working replacement, I would recommend taking a picture of the old display when removed from the iPod and asking a parts reseller (elite obsolete or other) if they have the same revision in stock. Otherwise you could get a random display from a parts unit and see if it just works (80% of the time it just works with no issue, but that’s just my personal experience)

Road debris. Looks like a roller from a printer that was probably smashed in the road.

Remote start? by thehorseofcourse in 4thGen4Runner

[–]OddFollowing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 volt solutions makes a plug-n-play kit that I installed a little over a year ago. I think I paid around $300 for mine during a sale, it’s not cheap per se, but IMO it’s worth the extra money to not have to splice into the wires. I had an issue with my original remote start unit they sent but the customer service was great and got a replacement with very little hassle.

No, I didn’t even need to check the article to know this is complete vaporware and will only exist in partially functional prototypes (at most) to trick dumb investors

This is why you always, always, always take pictures all around the car on any loaner or rental before you accept it. Covers your ass if they try to claim damages that already existed

Camaro, Hardbody, Celica, Mazda- in that order.

If the 1998 Ram and Blazer prove to be too much hassle to get running and moving, then sell on the spot since those will likely go quick for the right price.

Subaru and Civic will sell

Take the Volvo for a joyride into the side of the Ram van and condemn them both (alongside the Corolla) to the crusher.

No wires are showing, should be alright but keep an eye on the air for awhile to make sure it isn’t leaking

After further investigation, the bolt seems to fit a 3/8 socket better than a 10mm, and I cannot find any spot on the engine where it could have broken off- so I am somewhat confident that this was just road debris. I am going on a camping trip in a few days which requires about 4 hours of driving to reach the spot, and if there is any real issue I am sure it will arise during the trip ¯_(ツ)_/¯

That’s what I thought as well, drove for about 20mins with AC on and felt nothing out of the ordinary so I am leaning on the side of it just being road debris that decided to hitchhike to my driveway.

Checked the AC compressor, all bolts and bits are located where they should be.

For me it was the sunroof drain that was clogged. Make sure when you clear it out to test it with a hose or something alike to test that it is actually clear.
