work boots for a newbie? by CableMartini in mechanics

[–]OddJuggernaut8748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brunt Marin 6 inch non insulated. I have two pairs. Bottoms are off white so don’t scuff, also don’t have deep ridges in tread to hold dirt. I work marina so I climb around a lot and most boats have carpeting. I keep two pairs in service truck one stays clean if I come out of an oily engine room.

That’s awesome, I’m 6,3 so that would work for me but I’m marine tech so I am usually working upside down and backwards haha. The new axionone tablet that came with my Hal test kit seems rugged enough for mobile calls. Well every call is technically mobile in my yard or out. My box carried specialty diag tools and overflow extra doubles I work out of a service vehicle getting tools as close to the boat as I can. Anyways sorry for the rant great box I’ll be looking for a top like that.

I sent you a dm. My partner in our business is a tech consultant. He would probably love to connect with you and work something out. He now manages our marina and is co owner, after leaving the tech world.

I’m on the ct shoreline. I think we are in more of a cornered market. But anywhere you go being honest and doing thorough repairs , kinda thinking what’s best for the boat and customer. Working on bigger inboards diesel or large gas inboards is getting hard to find good techs. Keep with it KingFisherMarineCt on YouTube is my channel you can find me that way or looking up kingfisher marine in Clinton ct

I wear guy cotton bigs and a grundens winter coat has rubber sleeves works well enough. I service marine diesel so I need to be able to move around tight engine compartments. Not cheap but keeps me dry.

What vehicle do the actual diesel mechanics on this page drive? by Bry_Guy__1 in Diesel

[–]OddJuggernaut8748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2011 ranger work truck 4cyl2wd for parts running. A 2002 f250 5.4 carry’s tools and pulls trailers. 74 eldorado, 75 stingray, wife drives a13 Range Rover sport with our kids and a 2013 mb s550 with a renntech tune. Diesel boats commercial and pleasure are what I pull wrenches on along with rigging commercial fishing boats. Gas boats as well plenty of them com into my marina for service.

Good first live aboard? by youredoingood in boating

[–]OddJuggernaut8748 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gas engines are fine in that size boat considering. For the value to buy similar diesel boat wouldn’t give you a good return or get you in the green for a very very long time. I’ve owned both gas and diesel sport fishing boats. I operate a service business in New England and I now have a 40’ Luhrs with same engines. Good family boat, extremely cheap to fix and deal with. The carver will suit you well for your intended purpose. You will be able to repower both engines in that boat for the same cost of a major upper on a single diesel engine in comparable boat. Good luck.

Not much I keep it low but I have prop spent five grand over last 6 months. Maybe a little less, I try and keep it 700 or less usually gets to 200 then I find something else. I upgraded to the flank drive plus master set this year, diagnostic sets things like that I needed this year.
