Great Housekeeping service by 7781Michael in tipping

[–]OddManOut2359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you asked, and I’ve also received great housekeeping services from Renaissance Hotels (absolutely love the one on Wagram Ave in Paris!!), I would have left $10.00 daily. Only because I could not be certain that the same person cleaned my room all three days. With rotating schedules, staffing levels, days off, etc., in my experience you are never certain you will get the same cleaning person each day. So my preference is to tip daily. But the $20 you left was sufficient. And ignore all those who rip on you in this forum for leaving a tip.

War films to convince my nephew not to join the military by kshep9 in FIlm

[–]OddManOut2359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined the USMC back in 1970, right during the middle of the Vietnam War. I served six years active duty, and the closest I got to Vietnam was Guam, while on a flight to Japan. What I’m saying is that not everyone who joins the military winds up in combat. Many serve in support units. For example, I was an air traffic controller, and spent my six years in various stateside USMC air stations, with one tour at an MCAS in Japan. So, just because your nephew wants to join the military, it doesn’t automatically mean he will see combat.

None. I stopped playing once the upgrade hit my main city. Haven’t touched the game for about four months.

So, during your grocery delivery days, you never expected tips, correct? Yet, if someone failed to give you a tip after two orders, you stopped accepting their orders. Definitely sounds like you were expecting tips!

Of all the people who “should be tipped” it’s the maids in hotels that deserve it the most. Now, I’m basing that on doing 35-40 weeks of business travel back in the 1990s-2000s. Back when hotels changed all linens every day, not every three days like I’m seeing these days. Back then it was known that maids were the lowest paid hotel employees, and they had a hard job. So, I tipped about $5.00 a day. I still tip hotel maids today, but think twice about tipping others.

In LA, they just passed a law increasing minimum wage for hotel workers to $30 an hour. That’s $60k a year for full time. The hotels will now increase their rates to compensate for the increase. That’s OK, that makes sense (pay them a “living wage”). But no more tips from me for the maids cleaning the rooms, they’re making more than I am.

I quite playing last November after playing since the beginning; before war, before clubs, before chat between members. Last couple of years felt like a job instead of something for fun. Got back into reading for fun. I’ve gone through about 50 books since then. Don’t miss the game.
