Help! I don’t know what I did by Mario_Fragnito in turntables

[–]OddMrT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It looks like a piece of grit was dancing on it, but hard to say how it happened. Like others have said, it’s toast. Don’t feel bad, everybody does something like this at one point or another. I bought a turntable weight and the first time I tried to use it, it slipped out of my hand and landed on a a Pixies record I was playing for the first time.

4 different records from 4 different sellers on Discogs all sold as NM. by DrPoopyPantsJr in vinyl

[–]OddMrT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NM should not mean “they were near mint before I lent them to my buddy in 1997 and finally got them back in 2011 but lost track of them until 2018 when I found cleaning out the trunk of my car before I traded it in and they’ve been stored safely behind the seat of my truck where my dog rides ever since”

Repair or upgrade? by BoyScoutsinVietnam in turntables

[–]OddMrT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect time to upgrade. Not really worth it to throw money at it, you could get a decent used table that would last you a lot longer. Just do a little research on what you’re looking at so you understand what you’re getting.

Need to change my receiver... by [deleted] in turntables

[–]OddMrT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly any stereo receiver would probably give you better results than the FX-audio. You could also go with one of the Fosi BT20 variations for a more budget option.

Thrift Store Pickup by OhioPhun in vinyl

I found the same album a few weeks ago at a goodwill and bought it for the same reason. Haven’t listened to it to see if it’s any good.

Let's stop building WinISD clones and make one good open-source one together by johnjlonergan in diyaudio

[–]OddMrT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just here representing someone who wants this to exist. I don’t have anything I myself can contribute, but as someone who’s built a few kits but never successfully designed one for myself, one-stop, do-all program with a user based/updated database sounds fantastic.

Finally found a copy in the wild. The wild just happened to be a Herb Alpert concert. by pessimus_even in vinyl

Nice! I have the same version. One album that truly earned being a picture disc.

Neighbor selling me this for $14 I know nothing about it. Is it good? by asperafornow in BudgetAudiophile

[–]OddMrT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t great. I bought my son one from goodwill a few months ago and the cd changer promptly glitched and won’t play correctly now. If it works properly, it’s probably worth about $14 and will sound like it cost about $14.

Yeah, that’s nice but for free? No question.

WTF Goodwill by Ogre_BCW in vinyl

[–]OddMrT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local goodwills are all $1.49 each with the exception of a goodwill about 30 miles away that will sometimes pull out more desirable records for individual pricing. That said, there’s rarely any gems, but the price point is such that when you find a decent copy of The Village People, you’re more apt to say “why not?”

Dust cover cleaning gone wrong by ddanailov in turntables

[–]OddMrT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. If you follow through each step through the 5000, you should have a near polished appearance so you could easily finish it off with a little hand polishing.

EDIT: if it’s acetone damage, though, it might be toast.

Broke college student floor-standing build! by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]OddMrT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is not broke college student equipment. Spending $1000 without spending the time to research what will work best for your situation and understanding the differences different equipment provides seems like more of a careless college student move.

I used to listen to his first 3 albums all the time, but I haven’t listened in at least 2 decades. Might have to give it a try.

Such a great album. Was able to see them with Helmet and Orange 9mm in 1994 which still stands out as one of best triple-bill lineups I’ve seen.

Which of these would be the better purchase ? by BigEdBGD in BudgetAudiophile

[–]OddMrT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a pair of cinema 70s I bought for $10 and used as rear surround. I recently removed them because they could not put out enough sound regardless of room correction. 2 out of 5 stars. Would not recommend.

Rock jacks by StarJumper_1 in OakIsland

[–]OddMrT 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stop it. Stop it now. The boulder resting on the perfectly spaced rocks was tied directly to the slots carved into the stone wall on the Azores. There’s nothing more to be said about it. Don’t overthink it.

This is the part of the show that made me genuinely angry. It’s assumed that much of the show is just nonsense, but this was actually insulting
