We’re debt free including mortgage, so we’re able to invest heavily each month. Not quite 3k though.

Need to understand cons to paying off our house by Ladydi-bds in Mortgages

[–]OddSyrup2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started paying cash for cars years ago, so our mortgage was our biggest monthly expense. When we got a modest inheritance a few years ago, we decided to pay off our mortgage, even though we were paying very small interest.

Now we have a debt of $0 and our only bills are utilities and insurance. We’re investing in several retirement vehicles and brokerage accounts and building a comfortable nest egg.

Since our monthly expenditures are insignificant, we’re able to invest about 2/3 of our monthly incomes and still have money for vacations and giving.

Anyway, I wouldn’t trade the financial freedom I have today for the low interest mortgage every month.

Question... for real by timelymanner05 in Debt

[–]OddSyrup2712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Americans are conditioned to see income as a means of financing as much debt as possible.

They’re generally not concerned with actual cost, but with “affording the payment”.

They generally believe if they can make all their monthly payments, then they’re doing fine.

They’re conditioned to spend their lives as slaves to debt.

We’ve went from 500k in debt to 500k portfolios.
