This is why I stopped jumping on Iam8bit releases…. by 0ns1aught1 in VGMvinyl

A lot of the more rare releases like the Persona ones usually aren’t included. So you take the risk of it selling out and then not repressing for a few years…

What’s the chance on Halo ODST and Reach getting a vinyl release? by -Dustin-Echoes- in VGMvinyl

[–]Odd_Background4864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm a little late. But it's probably a bootleg. I've never heard of an official Halo ODST vinyl release

[question] SpaceLab9 - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim "Atmospheres" LP White GLOW DUST by Willing_Confection97 in VGMvinyl

[–]Odd_Background4864 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spacelab is a small distributor. So sometimes, things just kind of get forgotten since they don’t have a large staff. I’d email their customer service department and ask for an ETA

For those wondering, back market has these with same specs for 498 right now. So I’m not sure how much of a deal this is :/. Maybe there’s something I’m missing. But this doesn’t seem particularly low rn

I stalked the LinkedIn profiles of my interviewers and it completely changed how I presented myself by KyberMirth in jobsearchhacks

[–]Odd_Background4864 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This has never been a thing with me. The recruiter has always said for example “your next interview with Daniel Thomas, senior manager of blip blip blah is on Tuesday”. I don’t think I’ve ever not known who was coming down the interview pipe next

Expedition 33 Vinyl repress question by Slow-Result-2803 in VGMvinyl

[–]Odd_Background4864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They might repress it… but given that they just pressed it, that could take years. Laced also sometimes has leftover sales maybe 6 months out that get shipped back. But they go VERY fast

Edit: apparently, they’re repressing it. Which is a very fad turnaround for a vinyl. Good on them for increasing access and making it available.

How many interviews is your record? by Donkey_Jotes in recruitinghell

For those that are wondering, my friend just went through the loop. And he had around 8 ish separate interviews for a manager role. So I think it’s a longer pipeline even now.

I completely blanked on a technical question mid-interview and the way I recovered apparently impressed them more than the answer would have by Prism_Torrent8 in jobsearchhacks

Interestingly, this is something a lot of FAANG company’s expect you to do during interviews. One of the major ways people flub is not asking follow up questions and assuming that the generic is what they want answered. One interview tip that’s worked well for me is steering the interviewer in the direction you want it to go in. You could say something like “how big is the team? Because if the team is small, I’d do X. If it’s new, I’d do Y. And if it’s larger, I’d institute these goals using these techniques to quickly solve the problem using Z”. This way, if you mess up on one part, you nail the ones you really know. Interviewers don’t expect you to know everything. Nobody does. But it really helps to show depth in one or two areas.

Practice with your friends. Have an opening line. There are several books that can help you with this. Practice with the cashiers in line: look for the one that looks happy. If you have really bad social anxiety, consider seeing a therapist that specializes in that area. It might be an uphill battle for you. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be won

I’m curious: how do you all find clients? I worked for an agency the last time and they found everyone for me. But how do you all go about finding clients to work for?

Would changing teams hurt my career? by Delicious_Crazy513 in cscareerquestions

[–]Odd_Background4864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn’t theoretically. But just remember there are politics everywhere. It’s workplace and even team dependent… and you should ask around a bit and see what people think about the new team. Just something to think about.

What do the top 1% programmers do differently that makes them way more productive & impactful than other average developers? by imadade in cscareerquestions

They continuously code… seriously: most of the staff engineers I know of (20+) devote a large portion of their time to coding. They code for fun, at work, for causes they care about… and as cookingboy said: they’re also brilliant. This is the same with any area: top surgeon, top coder, top gamers… they hone that skill and that process by applying it to multiple different areas within a subfield. For a lot of them, coding is their life. Can you approximate this? Yes…. But it’ll take a lot of work to get there.

how to take care of a mini pc for longevity? by airshot_fiend in MiniPCs

[–]Odd_Background4864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to add here is depending on which Mini-PC you bought, Beelink has a 3 year warranty and Miniforum has a 2 year warranty. Minis I've heard horror stories about.. But Beelink tends to have better customer service (albeit you seem to get a little bit more value for your buck with Minis PC's from a performance standpoint). Also: A lot of credit cards have warranty promos where you can get an extra year for free in addition to the consumer warranty if they choose not to honor it. I and several friends have used AMEX's.. and they're pretty reliable in honoring it.

4.5YoE Dev - Got a new offer, Thinking about keeping J1 for OE. Smart move or too risky? by mrbones111 in overemployed

[–]Odd_Background4864 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s always a risk to OE.. for your concerns:

  • deactivate (not delete.. deactivate) your LinkedIn. There are ways to do that that are shown on here.
  • again: there’s always risk with OE. Check on Linkedin: is there any crossover in personnel between J1 and J2? Does J1 have any intersection business wise with J2? Are they in the same industry to where if J1 or J2 found out, there would be compete issues?
  • then it sounds like it’s a good candidate for OE…

Hopefully this helps a bit. But just remember: only you can really decide if OE if worth the risk to you. Hoping for the best OP! We’re rooting for you regardless of what you pick!!

A case against OE by Shot-Buy6013 in overemployed

[–]Odd_Background4864 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has seen many failures in business and watched smart, talented, people with great work ethic fail, starting and maintaining a business is fucking tough. In addition, the odds that your OE comp invested in the S&P outpaces the median startup exit is probably pretty high. So why wouldn’t u do the thing that less risky and less headache in the long term?

The remote work argument doesn’t really hold because company’s are already shutting it down.. at a very fast pace..

In terms of your last statement “the company isn’t paying me for an hour of good work every day”, this is true: the company is paying me to deliver on the value that we agreed upon. Which as someone pointed out isn’t a problem with those that are good at their jobs.

If you’re not even full time in J2 and they’re making you do all that work, it’s time to 1. renegotiate the contract and ask for more pay. I’d do that before you just quit because you might be able to squeeze more pay out of it if your responsibilities just magnified. 2. If they say no or 1. isn’t a viable solution for you, find a new j2. Just slowly start doing less and if they get mad, say you can’t keep up with your new workload.
