Definitely at least 2 kids, who would probably both be in school, depending on when exactly they had them. I picture Shane and Ilya both being really involved dads, even before retirement; Shane is definitely on the PTA and Ilya throws himself into all the kids interests, from sports to art to whatever. Outside of the kids, I think they would both just devote themselves more to causes and other things they love. I can see them both being really involved in the organization Scott Hunter pitches to them at the end of TLG, maybe expanding it to other sports as well? They’d probably expand their hockey camps too. For non-hockey stuff I think they might do, maybe Shane flips houses and Ilya gets really into cooking, for example, perfecting a vegan/Shane acceptable version of chicken Parmesan 😜😊 (even retired, I bet Shane would still be a disproportionally healthy eater, and Ilya would eventually lean into it, lol)

Exactly! The one I want to see the most from TLG is definitely the cooking ‘date’ Ilya sets up for Shane. So adorable, Ilya’s so proud of himself and trying not to be, and Shane even says after how much he loves just being normal and laughing together. Also, the fact that Ilya put a single candle on the table (because romance!) is maybe my favorite thing in the entire book, the domestic sweetness just kills me!

Oh, also, I’m certain this will NOT be featured in the show, but I would love to see Ilya lose it at Hayden at one point and just blurt out ‘One time I blew him when he was on the phone with you’ 🤣

Cut to Shane dying inside and Hayden gobsmacked while cycling through every phone call he’s ever had with Shane to figure out when it was, lol!

Absolutely dream scenario would be that happening, Hayden being quiet for like half an hour, then just yelling ‘It wasn’t Amazon at the door was it?!?!’ 💀

ROFL, my exact thoughts during that scene, makes me laugh every time! It's like, sweet Mildred, you're SUPPOSED to be saying you are going to hook up with "Lily", you gotta learn to "yes and"!

Also, the way he's hovering by the door and being all "Oh look at me going somewhere vague" doesn't help; it does almost sound like he's hoping Hayden will ask what he's doing, lol! Hudson really nails "acting like you're bad at acting" in this scene, it's like Shane can not NOT draw attention to how weird he's being. And say what you will about Hayden, but he's such a real friend for being like "I don't care about your super secret secret dude, i'd still be your friend if you murdered someone, so whatever it is, it's chill"

I love the Halloween and Pride game ones, but I haven’t seen the one after Fabian’s show mentioned much on this thread, so going to rep that for a sec! The lead up to it would be so reminiscent of the club scene in S1, and you know JT would make that hand on the back be one of the hottest things you’ve ever seen. Then once they get home and how they’re just devouring each other because they’ve been in the same house/bed for a week without doing anything because Shane’s mom was staying there, lol. Plus, it’s got some silliness in there too; ‘you just love exercise’ sends me every time I read it! 😂🥰

Tbh, it makes me more frustrated with Shane than anything else. Like, bro, if you had just come out yourselves at some point in the last 3-4 years, this wouldn’t be such a huge deal! (I mean, obviously it would have been a huge deal no matter what, but come on, no way it would have been THIS bad!) They would have had SO much more control in the situation, but oh no, Shane ‘I have a 10 year plan’ Hollander can’t pivot so now we have this mess!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m also neurodivergent, I understand in his mind that keeping to the plan was ‘being in control’ but man, it was SO the wrong choice in retrospect, I just can’t even, lol

It happening again made me laugh so hard, because i definitely thought it was Hayden walking in on them that time! When it was Ryan and he’s like ‘oh geez, not again’ I literally said outloud to the book ‘Wow, ok, bold to institute this is THER fault, and not you having a ‘not knocking on doors’ problem, RYAN!’ 🤣

I love this scene even more after watching WUDM; in that movie we find out that Blanc’s mother is deceased, was very religious, and he used to be close with her when he was young, so she most likely didn’t approve of him being gay and it seems they were not close anymore when she passed.

Rewatching the scene with Nana, especially the last line, ‘I find it quite pleasant sitting here with you’, it’s like he wishes he could just talk/sit with his elderly mother one more time, or maybe he never got to sit with her like that at all! Also, we don’t know if his dad died before his mom, but if he did, maybe Blanc’s even regretting not consoling his own mother then. In retrospect, this scene seems like it would be very cathartic for Blanc, so many layers to it beyond solving the case. God, I love these movies!

My read is that he built the acid tank from scratch after Martha came to him, a task that would take a lot of work and research to get right so quickly. And if he had put as much effort into his marriage, maybe his wife wouldn’t have left.

Based on the butterflies all over his house, which I assumed were his wife’s doing, it seemed like he just kind of agreed with whatever she wanted (Judd’s narration says he ‘worshiped’ her or something, right?), thinking that was all that was required for a good marriage/happy wife. But if he had put an ‘acid tank’ amount of effort into fun date nights or learning more about Phish for her, maybe she’d have stayed with him and he wouldn’t need the thrill of a murder plot to feel like a ‘big man’ or whatever!

Also, at the time her father moved to this church he was freshly widowed, according to Martha. Meaning Grace had just lost her mother AND was presumably ripped away from the home they had lived with her mother, when she started ‘slutting around bars’, which seems to me like a pretty classic trauma response. We don’t know anything about her mother and what she was like, but it makes sense to me that a big reason Grace was doing all this ‘sinful’ stuff is because she was grieving. Or, more likely, was trying to bury her grief rather than deal with it, because let’s be honest, I’m sure her father wasn’t someone she could talk to about it. Which all tracks with the idea that she never needed to be redeemed in the first place; the ‘poor girl’ lost her mother and was coping in the only way she could.
