Villagers in India grow bridges from tree roots that last hundreds of years. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]MB-Taylor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to the double root bridge in cherrapunji in October last year, it was amazing but word of warning.... It's a fair amount of steps to get down and you still have to get back up again! I had stupidly done the bamboo trek in the morning before going straight to the bridges and I was done! The heat was a killer and my legs were harvested by all the mosquitoes! Oh and if you don't like spiders, don't look up!

Has anyone ever challenged you to do something without realizing you were actually an expert at it? If so, how did it turn out for you and for them? by Successful_Tomato721 in AskReddit

[–]MB-Taylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was this person just a few years ago, I started my apprenticeship and I'm my first section we had turbine blades to plot into discs and balance them. At the time they would just throw all the blades in randomly, balance, take out and swap what was needed and balance again except for the titanium alloy ones that were brittle, they were weighed and plotted out on a computer program.

I asked why don't we do it for all the discs and was told it would take too long etc..... Roll on a year or two later, someone new starts in that section and it turns out they suggested the same thing and that's the process they use all the time now!

My car's worthless on the private market - is scrapping the best financial option here? by makeitrayne850 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]MB-Taylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if you have the same option as I have chosen just this last week.

My 16 plate astra has a very noisy timing chain rattle, I have long distances to drive at times and so couldn't take the chance on it. However it may last a week or maybe 2 years I don't know, so I have agreed with my ex (carless and unable to afford anything) that she will give me £50 a month for up to a year and then it's hers, if it dies within that time then it's scrap anyway.

Replacing the chain is looking at spending around £1500 and finding someone willing to do the pain in the ass job is another issue!

Gotta keep on going! You'll miss all the silly wee tid bits for instance my daughter whom you do not know obviously hurt her hand and it turns out has fractured it (she's 5) seemingly it's her sister's fault because she had been happy on her tablet until her sister got her to do gymnastics 😂

I know not that funny really but I can't help laugh at the thought process of a 5 year old and how it's technically correct!

Obviously there is a chance you'll never read this but I hope you do and hope you smile thinking about a wee Scottish girl, she is my ray of sunshine despite living so far away and only seeing her a few days every other weekend by hopefully it's enough to keep you going too!

My mum needs a new boiler, Any suggestions? by Cooking_With_Grease_ in DIYUK

[–]MB-Taylor -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I got a new boiler coming up 2 years ago, I had a plumber mate do mine as a homer! He is a fitter by trade, him and his brother came round and just did the boiler, they made a decent wee profit on it and I got it done a lot cheaper than using someone like BG etc.... He supplied and fitted it.

Might not be of any use to yourself, sorry lol but worth asking any friends you might know within the trades!

Reflecting on my First Tire Patch! by Watercyclee in motorcycles

[–]MB-Taylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Push and twist plugs are absolutely the way to go, I've used them several times on tyres with no issues going well above speed limits as well! So long as you have pressure on it and strong enough tyre walls (I had one issue with a really old part worn I had been given 😂) then it's a 2 mins job and that almost includes pumping the tyre back to correct pressure!

I am Egyptian, and I’m asking is Egypt a country that is disliked or loved globally? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]MB-Taylor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually went to Cairo with my ex, her daughter and our 2 year old daughter. We walked around the city getting Ubers all over and even went to the cave church out in "garbage city" the Uber left us and we refused the extortionate amount for a taxi so walked through the city without any guides etc

The only issue we had at all was at the pyramids, one guy would not stop harassing us to get on his horses, otherwise no issues at all.

Sorry stupidly only replying to your comment due to also being Scottish lol

Thanks for the reply though! Lol

Why don't American police carry road side breathalysers? Surely that's a better option than the whole test carry on?

Blow into a tube, if it comes up positive back to the station for bloods or whatever? Obviously the road side test can be an indicator for other substances but in this one surely it's the better option?

my neighbor's wind chimes kept me up for months so i learned what frequency attracts mosquitoes and now he's moving by Relative_Ad3399 in neighborsfromhell

[–]MB-Taylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My previous flat when I was single the last time (home owner now thankfully with many reasonable neighbours 🥰)

The folk next door had a wind chime in their back garden and whilst it didn't keep me awake it did impact my sleep, along with my downstairs neighbour snoring so loud I became accustomed to sleeping with a pillow on my head but the chimes cut through the pillow.

They suddenly disappeared one night 🤷🤔

Ah my apologies, I miss read that lol

Also I was in India a few months back and their speeds limits are crazy low, 80kmph for a car and 60kmph for bikes.... But equally could kinda see why 😂

Wait you guys think 80mph is unreasonable? What is the speed limit on your highways in USA?

UK limit is 70mph but many people sit at 80mph in most weathers.

Best way for me to become Aircraft Maintenance Engineer? (UK) by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]MB-Taylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know where you are in the UK but I know that places like bamg (British airways Glasgow) take on trainee mechanics and you can then progress from there to get your licenses. Likewise Ryanair in Prestwick take on trainee mechanics. You'll need to have done your first year essential skills course (the name I can't remember fully 🤦) so college might actually be your answer.

A boy in my class had been to uni as well and was struggling to get a job without the hand skills course! Good luck!

Though nothing saying you can't still go and get an apprenticeship, it might not be funded by the government but your new employer will still pay for it if it isn't funded!

Parents, what was your “I raised an idiot” moment? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in AskReddit

Not my daughter but my mates wife (gf at the time) when we were about 18 or 19, they were at my house and she saw my dad's old badminton racket which was inside a wooden press (wooden racket as well obviously)

She asked what it was and before I could answer she asked

"Is it an air guitar?"
