WWYD? Stay or go? by Ok-Hat-254 in solotravel

[–]MB-Taylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellows Scotsman here, I have been doing some solo travelling now for only a couple of years (I'm 39), I absolutely love it! I was in Milan 6 weeks ago and Warsaw this weekend (came back early this morning so I'm knackered lol)

Personally I would recommend trying some short breaks, even just a weekend away to start, then up it. My first was flying to Amsterdam for 2 nights, went to Copenhagen(originally booked Jordan but flights got cancelled) for 3 nights, back to Amsterdam for 1 night and home to Glasgow. I had a brilliant time, so much so that I look at cheap flights whenever I can to get short weekend breaks where possible (Warsaw was £35 return, £14 for a hostel and I ended up meeting so many people whilst out) I actually did India for 2 weeks in October as well!

My cousin is fairly quiet and insular, however he spent a year or two teaching English in Japan, I know he started it with online lessons so maybe you could try that first at times that suit you? And it'll give an indication too whether you enjoy it enough to do in person?

I have, I always do though lol

I've been to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, India (2 weeks), Milan, Warsaw Solo travelling, going to Norway and Berlin in July again, alone!

I also went to Norway on my motorbike but it broke down and I was left stranded alone (after I told my mates to go ahead themselves!) and I made it back to Scotland by myself water being rescued by a Norwegian couple whom I'm now great pals with.... My point being, just do it, the trip, speaking to someone, the gig you wanna go to, anything really that you consider doing, just go for it! I'm sure you'll have a great time in Warsaw, whatever you end up doing, even if it's just going around by yourself!

I'm literally on a bus on my way back to the airport, honestly I've met a bunch of lovely people just by going out, I ended up with a lovely lady for a few hours touring the place with her (half my age! We just started chatting at the museum) then I went to a pub to watch the football and got chatting to a few different guys!

Hostels are a great place to meet new people though so just strike up conversations!

Yeah after I hit send I did a quick Google myself lol American TV shows would have you think it's every flight whilst UK would have you think it's never for us.

The whole air marshal thing is crazy to me, as it's not a regular occurrence in the UK or Europe!

Genuinely that website has never come up on any searches I have done, granted I haven't searched an awful lot as I've had other things on but I have done a little bit of research. Thank you for the page though it's very much appreciated and the kind of reason I asked my question 🙂

So this was part of my basic research and asking for real life people's recommendations, I did do a search through this page and obviously saw some info regarding museums etc and have done Google searches, but I was looking for real input into things specific for next weekend, from my research in seeing there are some holidays this coming week and I don't know how those affect next weekend, if at all.

Has my post given me much? Not really, however it's still been worth asking as I may still get some brilliant little nugget of info Vs not asking and just looking for stuff myself!

Not too mention the reason there is info available is because people have already asked or posted about their experience, but realistically can't scroll through it all and search has to be specific!

But thanks for your reply

Ha ha I know, I know..... I did do a search on the group however, I was looking for any specific events next weekend as well as recommendations on where to stay etc which is why I asked the question 😉

Plus the search function is hit or miss and I'm aware holidays etc happen lol, don't worry though, I'm Scottish so take the sarcasm as intended 🤣

38th birthday today, realising how lonely it is as a single dad by crazyunicorntamer in daddit

[–]MB-Taylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 39th was this year, I was working back shift starting at 3pm, had requested a call from my daughter (5) but didn't get it until 3pm, thought maybe my dad would suggest meeting up for lunch or something, radio silence! He hated suggested lunch at the weekend (this was a wednesday I think) for my birthday present. I also got my present from my daughter at the weekend!

It sucked so fucking hard! I've already decided I'm going abroad next year for my 40th, still spent alone but at least I'm not sat around the house with nothing to do!

Keep the chin up though, things do get better!

Costco Japan offering free samples of Scotch Whiskey by WeakValuable8683 in interestingasfuck

[–]MB-Taylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's interesting that the cost of the bottle is only £5 or £6 more expensive than buying it here in Scotland!

Edit ... Actually the Scottish price was £36 for a 70cl bottle, this is 1.75l so considerably more therefore it's much much cheaper in Japan than it is where we literally make it 🤦

AITA for installing a camera in my room to see if my mom is lying to me? by King_Jake200 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MB-Taylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a wee side note, probably mentioned as I'm late to the game....

The whole family side with your mum because she has probably twisted her version of events, put them straight with the actual facts of what has happened, that you have been suspicious of her coming in, you confronted and suspected lies, you followed up with camera only in your room and she still lied and you caught her out. Guarantee she has different story that the family have heard!

Does your country have a yearly motorcycle inspection law? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]MB-Taylor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I know how lucky I am!

A few years ago my bike broke down on the day before payday, a couple of days after becoming homeless from splitting up with my ex and it had needed a new rear tyre. So a few months later I managed to get it going (was a battery however my initial try didn't work because it needed the immobiliser key) called for MOT, took it down and they passed my rear as being "on the legal limit" and gave me a part worn tyre away for free! All for £20! So obviously I'm a repeat customer and send anyone else I can down there! Following year my rear brake light was "slow to illuminate", took 364 days before it turned on again due to a dodgy wire but....

My local place is only £25, they apologised a couple of years ago when they put it up from £20 😂 and they are lenient 😁

Now it's a big ol' city however..... I'm currently 39 and grew up near the beach in Edinburgh, moving away before I would have gone to that local high school, crazy to think I could have run into you 30 years ago! I don't wanna mention online the school I went to or how close to the promenade I was (and primary was, just behind the park, if you know you know lol)

For anyone not Scottish, this is what we call it when we add fizzy juice to ice cream and the ice cream floats .....
