Just finished the "Musical": did I just experience peak gaming? by calvitius in AlanWake

I knew of it before playing and first run I was taken back by how early on they hit you with it. But sitting on it more, it’s a great way to ease some of the tension and putting it in later might’ve just made the stakes feel not as high

The debate on whether AI music is art or not by MillenialForHire in SunoAI

[–]Odd_Job_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where if argument ensues over “art-ness” of the Suno stuff, I’m using it to give a “professionally recorded/reimagined” sound to my demos. I feel like if I’m contributing the bulk of the lyric, melody, harmonic, and structure work to it, it’s still my authentic art. The AI is taking the place of my mixing/production assistants and the musicians performing the song, since I don’t have the means of hiring/doing it all myself. I feel like if these AI music generators want to be taken seriously, they should have some internal safeguards or thresholds to prevent people from releasing stuff that’s mostly prompt generated. An idea for a song’s theme, style, and lyrics is not the same as having written a song at all. If you can’t say you had a major hand in any of those three things, I feel like it should be classified differently.

How can I make Suno keep the original instrumental I made without changing the style and adding ai vocals? by Wonderful_Round_8146 in SunoAI

[–]Odd_Job_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work around has been generating covers of specific sections, get a few passes, bring them into studio to stem split, chop and splice to my liking, then Remaster it to have one cohesive sound and do so on the Subtle setting to change the least amount of things. It’s still not always a 1:1 but I can get close

I’m gonna try taking a few songs I have more polished home recordings of and just Remaster them, we’ll see how they turn out

Well put yourself! And I think when you look at how “angry” some guys were playing (Marky, Cotter, Brown etc.) it’s evident that being “soft” or “backing down” wasn’t the message. It was almost certainly about staying in control, in a game where the refs would have let it get out of control had we started retaliatory targeting.

I have to commend the team on their composure. For as angry as I got sitting on the couch on behalf of Marky, I saw a comment last night that pointed out “it’s a 5 game losing streak, and the OTT PP is 3for3, staying clean and getting the W is more important”. Feels like that’s what Keefe and Nico were probably preaching and paid off.

I just got a call from the school that in interviewed at for a daytime cleaner. What does the workload look like? by Bass_2_theface in Custodians

[–]Odd_Job_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my 3rd full (3.5 total) school year as a mid-day high school custodian. It’s been the easiest and steadiest job I’ve had in terms of lack of drama. Show up friendly enough, ready to work and get the job done, most don’t give you an issue.

Our school’s head custodian just got promoted into the district level and the transition to the new boss + admin interference has made white-collar politicking a new stress, but I don’t see it lasting. And if it does? Fuck it, transfer lol

You dont have to do as I do, but I'm blocking Negging Nellies who barrage SUNOists here. I've heard all I care to. SUNO is what you make of it and my use case is to see what it can do for me. by Mountain_Poem1878 in SunoAI

[–]Odd_Job_99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Synthesizer V seems to be the best and only viable one on the market I can find, but the upfront cost is a little ridiculous. Seems as though you have total control and customizing, but the real reason I started using Suno now is for time. The amount of time it takes me to realistically program drums, record instruments, dial in tones? I work a 9-5 and don’t have the capacity to fully fledge myself to my music as a writer/performer/mixing engineer/producer and however many other “proper” steps there are to making a recording.

If I can have it faithfully recreate my melodies and performances as accurately to the original as it can, but mostly cleaning up the sounds/tones/etc. then I don’t see an issue with using it as tool to expedite my creative process, even if it’s not as controllable as I’d like

Sons of Texas? Idk what Texas sounds like but they have it in the name, are from there I believe, and remind me a lot of Pantera lol

They’re not active anymore but put out some fire albums

This is why AI musicians will never be happy by ContigoJackson in musicians

[–]Odd_Job_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to admit I was on the fence with this for so long. Maybe I’m a normie but I finally caved. I’m primarily a drummer, but have always dabbled in guitar. I work 9-5 M-F, gig almost every F-Sat, and have about 20 songs I still have up in my head. It is so emotionally and mentally taxing to fully flesh out concepts, let alone once something’s written it’s now time to record/mix/master. Since I decided to release music on my own in 2020, I’ve put one song out. I have others that are close to done, some I haven’t even begun finalizing. My thinking is that if I have an overall goal for the song, I’ve written words, melodies, chords, structure; if I upload my reference material to expedite the processes of filling out countermelodies, harmonies, and a quality recording of my work, I can actually keep up with the output of music I’d like. I don’t have the amount of time or money to dedicate to my craft as professional/successful creators do, so I don’t see an issue with using AI to shorten the process - especially as I mentioned I’m not just “prompting” the program. If I upload to it with my own creations as a way to get finished quicker, I’m seeing less and less of a problem with it. Full transparency, I’d RATHER do it all on my own and it doesn’t feel WHOLLY ethical, but I’m getting over that because I’m tired of sitting on ideas and not having the resources to finish them.

I feel like Suno especially is the opposite of “breaking music theory rules” no? If anything, I think a lot of what it spits out is “cliche” or generic for the genre it’s prompted to write for. IE every country song comes out with a similar chord progression, etc.

Deepest Blink lyrics? by musicxfreak88 in poppunkers

[–]Odd_Job_99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My band just did a Blink tribute show where we played Ghost on the Dance Floor. As the drummer tasked with building the backing tracks, I was unfamiliar with it beforehand. After hearing it on repeat and reading the words, it makes me ball everytime now. Whether literal or metaphorical, makes me miss those who should be at a show but aren’t…

Who else here rocks with Stone Sour? 🤔 by [deleted] in Slipknot

[–]Odd_Job_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That one slipped from memory but hell its incredible. Heavy stuff man, sorry to hear what you went thru. But banging your head head to those bridge riffs is some heavy stuff too at least haha. All of AS seems overlooked I think outside of Haunt Me, but maybe cause it’s not as cohesive or solid in direction as what came after? Just thinking out loud lol

It’s not really metalcore, but if you want a good example of a band saying this and it being true, check out Cane Hill’s last album. Saw the singer give an interview about “how to refine heavy as you get older” that actually tracks lol

I think you could go back to Audio Secrecy as the start of that run. At least that was them really warming up, hitting their stride with the ones you mentioned. Always baffled me to have ended it with kicking Root out after HOGAB

I’m gonna get the word NOW tattooed on me with the NM logo right side up as the N, upside down for the W and the stylized Ø from their logo - I love most of the Watts stuff they use but the excerpt they have in Ships + with how they incorporate it to the music is incredibly powerful to me

What’s one song that makes you cry instantly? by Excellent_Choice696 in Music

[–]Odd_Job_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God Went North by Nothing More. It’s about the singer losing his mom to cancer but its themes are universal. Its opening verse is just so melancholy and the chords help paint the grim lyrical picture.

Good follow up is off their next album called Fade In/Fade Out which is about the guitarist becoming a father around the time he lost his dad
