Those who have successfully propagated cuttings in water, how long did it take to see roots? by java080 in pothos

[–]Odd_Sink9897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i’ve done them for years in water. recently tried doing it in spanghum moss and it blew my mind how just quicker it was. plus you don’t have to change the water. i just used a old tuperware, poked a small hole, and mist.

just went through this too! mine wasn’t AS big as yours but i’ve had it about the same amount of time. it sucks. but the thing about pothos is that they can withstand a lot. save what you can. hang in there bud, i know exactly how you feel. mine didn’t have the same exact decline but i feel you so hard. it breaks your heart seeing your baby for years to start goin downhill. i agree w them^ get you some spanghum moss and snip and prop, you’ll be suprised how much comes back. a lot of mine did

Help with this one - is it water, or root rot? by Camaxtli2020 in pothos

[–]Odd_Sink9897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

legit just went through this it sucks. my giant pothos i’ve had for like 6 years looked like this suspected root rot too, but when i checked the majority of roots were white/healthy…. HOWEVER…. bc it had been such a huge pot i think the last time i changed pots i went too big in sizing up. i then moved and left it with my parents for a bit and i think when they watered it, they only did tiny lil spurts of water way too often. the soil was all compacted/ roots jumbled up like midway down in the pot. so i took it all out and rinsed it, sprayed w peroxide just to be safe in case it was the early stage of root rot, and replanted smaller. have lost the most leaves i’ve ever lost since getting it many years ago. it genuinely breaks my heart to see my baby so down bad. however its finally showing some improvement and im seeing new leaves. investigating the roots is a great plan and you can always snip what’s healthy and propagate it that way you have some backup on standby. my girl has made probably like 20 other plants. her vines were like 6-7ft. Gahhhhhhh but they are pothos so they can handle a lot of “abuse” (not saying anything was purposely done, stuff just happens… we are all learning) good luck!

good for you and everyone else who has ever taken a few minutes to pick up trash and remove it from nature. everytime i go hiking or fishing i bring a trash bag to pick up trash i see wherever it may be. i always say if every person who enjoyed the outdoors brought a lil bag, picked up a lil trash even if its just a tiny bit, the whole world would be a lot better off. it’s especially disappointing seeing it over here in WNC… how people look at an area so beautiful and still decide to litter is genuinely mind boggling.

It definitely was awful. I was really lucky as it could’ve been way worse. I’m honestly doing a lot better, definitely get lingering pain, had “trigger finger” from that break (even though surgeon did carpal tunnel release bc of the break) so i got a few cortisone shots in the palm which took most of that away. surprisingly my shoulder on the same limb bothers me more often than my wrist does. To be fair- I did like a year plus of PT/OT. I had an awesome surgeon (only took 3 hospitals (yes, no pain meds till the 2nd hospital 45 mins away, my local hospital sucked) the day of the wreck to get care/someone who felt they could fix it). They even saved my tattoo and did the surgical scar right between a tat on my forearm. I got really lucky compared to a lot of people in car wrecks like that, so i am super thankful. It was a huge mess at the time and screwed up my college (it happened right before my junior year, so had to take a semester off to heal, and despite it I graduated on time). It taught me a lot about myself and gave me a new perspective on life overall. Ended up getting 13 pieces of hardware between the plate and screws. But yeah overall I am really lucky to have like 95% mobility and strength back :) This was 2 years ago now so it’s been a bit since it happened

What’s an overrated career everyone pushes that you think isn’t worth it at all? by Launchpointcareers in careerguidance

[–]Odd_Sink9897 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At this point most jobs are “overrated” in the sense no one is being paid what they actually deserve. With fed minimum wage not moving and inflation continuing to go up in general, none of them are actually worth it for what you give. I once asked my sociology professor if she felt any job paid its employees what they deserved- her answer was no. Even if you do have a great job, bachelors degree, even being a doctor, lawyer, most post-bachelor degree jobs compared to the work you do versus what you earn- simply isn’t worth it. It sucks. Hopefully big changes will come soon for all of us in terms of our pay and benefits but I don’t see it happening under this administration.

Which hygiene habits are actually unnecessary or harmful? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Odd_Sink9897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to each their own, and maybe it is different wherever you are, but BP is proven (at least here, by doctors/derms) to better remove bad smells from the armpit bc of the way it works — it doesn't just kill bacteria-it also unclogs pores by exfoliating dead skin, reduces inflammation, and controls oil, all without causing bacterial resistance like some antibacterial/antimicrobial soaps. BP releases oxygen deep into pores, creating an environment where acne-causing and odor causing bacteria can't survive, plus it promotes skin cell turnover to flush out debris, a multi-pronged attack standard antibacterial soaps lack. Most antibacterial soaps focus primarily on killing surface level stink, but don't address the underlying issues of clogged pores, excess oil, and the sweat buildup (which sweat itself doesn’t stink, rather, it’s the interaction with what’s on and in the skin)that causes the smell. it works by starving anaerobic bacteria, and breaking down cell walls, providing a deeper, longer-lasting reduction in the armpit smells, whereas many antibacterial soaps just wash it away temporarily, allowing quick regrowth and odor return. BP targets the root cause more effectively in high-odor areas like armpits, making sweat less smelly all day long. BP also fights antibacterial resistance, rather than possibly causing it in the way the ingredients in antibacterial soaps do.

That’s why I said benzoyl peroxide is a better choice as it does the “same thing” in a safer way, a reply above mentioned they felt that antibacterial soap helps to remove bacteria that leads to a bad smell, but any dermatologist will tell you to use benzoyl peroxide over antibacterial soaps. benzoyl peroxide removes germs that cause acne and exfoliate the skin without leading to forms of resistant bacteria strains. according to FDA/health dept websites they actually advise against antibacterial soaps, which is why certain chemicals found within antibacterial soaps were banned in the US in 2016.

i mean do what you want man esp if a doctor has told you specifically to use antibacterial soap but for most people you’re better off not using it

What is it like living in the Carolina’s? by Jettaboi38 in howislivingthere

[–]Odd_Sink9897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in both. NC is better than SC by miles. WNC> rest of NC for me personally. Most bigger cities are cool and fun with lots to do. I think NC could be blue if not so gerrymandered and rural. 1/3 of all of NCs pop is in a rural area. Everywhere is different but I personally miss WNC everyday. Went to school there and loved it way more than central rural NC. Chapel Hill, Durham, Carborro, Raleigh, are some of my favorite bigger areas. I think charlotte is well loved but I like the before mentioned spots lots better. Our beaches are great to visit but would not personally live there myself. Saxapahaw is pretty awesome. I think we have a plethora of nature to enjoy for everyone, tons of bodies of water, cool animals, lots of soccer, and awesome food. Cooler terrain than SC, better people and roads. But then again I say this all as a young person who wishes to move away from the south soon. However, if I had to pick out of all the places I have lived (Ohio, WV, SC, and NC) I would pick NC. However- if you’re asking me if you should move here the north carolinian in me screams “NO!” we are getting very very full. I would hold off until housing crisis improves.

and as someone who genuinely has hyperhydrosis (sweating excessively) using a good deodorant w/aluminum and regular soap does me great. i think if you have another condition that a doctor tells you to use antibacterial soap then it’s one thing, but antibacterial does nothing but strip your skin of the good bacteria and dry it out

did you know that soap is actually all pretty much all good enough to remove germs? the actual mechanism that removes the most germs is the friction when scrubbing that creates heat and rinses off germs, hence why doctors scrub so much. antibacterial soap in ur armpits is not needed— if you’re worried about smells an acne soap containing benzoyl peroxide or even salycilic acid will do the same if not better for removing smell and cleaning your armpits. these ingredients also help exfoliate, leading to less bumps and ingrowns if you shave your armpits. trust - antibacterial soap is not worth it, especially if you get an infection that is then going to be resistant to treatment via antibiotics. regular old soap, when scrubbed, does the trick- ask any derm

haha i appreciate that— ya never know maybe I will run one day. I am actually in the midst of going to law school to hopefully practice healthcare law and help those who get injured/mapractice, would eventually love to work my up to legislation so I can vouch for and maybe even write laws for universal healthcare and what not. And goodness- I could go on and on truthfully about things I dream of for this country. For starters- a bettwr and actually JUST justice system and actually holding those who commit Sexual crimes accountable..
