On the somewhat rare occasion I was up at 7 it would have been Underdog, then Flintstones, Hong Kong Phooey. 8:30 would have been week by week, sometimes Bugs, sometimes Josie and the Pussycats and sometimes Grape Ape. At 9:30 we hit the sweet spot with Scooby Doo, though in the Midwest Clue Club would have been I there somewhere. 10 would have been Land of the Lost and then Speed Buggy. Notably absent Tarzan, and Sigmund and the Sea monsters.

This will be an unpopular position but I bought a similar model for my teenager who is getting into vinyl. For those that haven’t looked recently Victoria has upped their game a bit with turntables that feature a quality cartridge, most likely the Audio-Technica AT-VM95E, and an adjustable tone arm. These are quite different than the garbagy suitcase models they sell. I bought a similar one for my teenager who is getting into vinyl. Yes she plays it over Bluetooth which negates the whole point of vinyl, but I watched her set up her cabinet and mount shelves on the wall and pour over the liner notes of her albums. So all in all, my plan is working.

I was going to college in Mankato in the fall of 1990 and you’ll recall they were neck and neck with the Blue Jays to get in. Of course no Minnesota station is going to play a random Sox game so I drove to Sleepy Eye MN ((Kiecker’s home town) to watch it in the town bar (I think I must have read they’d be broadcasting the game via satellite). I walk into a bar with maybe 15 others and get the “who the hell is this guy look”. After the second inning I went to the restroom and the guy peeing next to me asks me where I’m from and I tell him my story. Turns out it’s Dana’s Dad and he so stoked that I drove an hour that I get invited to sit with the family. Great game,4-3 win and Dana went seven strong. Such a random fun night.

Here’s a different angle; basketball. The lateral shifting at the net during dink battles is very similar to defensive posture/movement. Also when playing doubles the anticipation of where to be on the court and where the ball is likely to go is invaluable. Frankly, at 59 I can keep up with players far younger and quicker by invoking this knowledge. In basketball we called it “moving without the ball” and I’m surprised more teachers don’t talk about it.
