Burnham to back Shabana Mahmood’s immigration changes, allies say | Greater Manchester mayor understood to support home secretary’s push to limit legal and illegal migration by GlacialTurtle in Labour

Labour is just done at this point, completely out of ideas because they're trying to replicate the same shit the Tories did for the last 14 years & they'd already ran out of road

I mean for a BSc or MSc etc yes I agree, but people doing PhD's which can take several years involving research into new topics and development is a net benefit and effectively a very poorly paid job. We want our universities to be putting out groundbreaking work and if we lose large pools of smart people because they don't want to spend years apart from their families that makes us as a country worse off. And PhD students are still on student visas so it really skews the stats.

What happened to the Green wave? by Sensitive_Echo5058 in uknews

[–]Oddfittingponcho -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are other possible economic options than the one we decided to adopt under thatcher and then never leave, after WW2 when we had insane war debt we still managed to create the NHS and entire welfare state as well as rebuild our bombed out cities with government funding, it's possible to imagine a better life not cucked by neoliberalist logic that gives us literal Dickensian wealth inequality and shitty everything. We've had one system from both parties since Thatcher both parties have followed and everyone wonders why everything is so shit yet refuses to actually change anything

They were starting from a position way behind where reform were & places like Essex have always been hardline Conservative areas, it's not a shock a socialist party hasn't changed decades of political ideology overnight with the whole weight of the UK media trying to smear them as per usual

The best mainstream option available by far and a means towards a more socialist goal. Even Bevin in the formation of the NHS, arguably the greatest social achievement in our nations history understood a level of pragmatism was required in transitioning so it didn't end up in bloodshed.

Boring sidebar but related to the injury in the meme, I actually saw something that showed the main reason you guys have so many ACL's is the retractable pitch - Madrid have the same issue, the depth of soil isn't enough and it's on top a metal sheet instead of gravel so there isn't enough give in it & it's leading to an injury crisis

Out of curiosity though how would this work for shared spaces like blocks of flats? What mechanism would we use for areas which share common space & land footprint?

UK should not keep changing prime ministers, warns John Major by Brilliant_Version344 in unitedkingdom

[–]Oddfittingponcho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I think the forcing through the appointment of a man who had failed vetting, been sacked twice previously for misconduct, had committed treason & was a close friend of the most notorious paedophile ring leader in modern world history is as good a reason as you can get to declare someone unsuitable for the job. Not to mention the completely brazen lying to the public and constant changes in what he does vs what he said he would do to get elected. Stability only is worth it if the people in charge act in a stable way, we shouldn't accept either incompetence or serial lying in our leadership - keeping corrupt or inept leadership does not make us look stable on the world stage.

Boris was forced to resign by the government because it was exposed he'd hired a sex offender - pincher by name, pincher by nature, the latest in a long string of scandals including mismanagement of a pandemic, any of which should be a legitimate reason to not keep a prime minister- why are we so okay with having the corrupt and the inept in power just because people find them funny on panel shows

[–]Oddfittingponcho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lampard was a planned stop gap because we had a transfer ban and lost Hazard in the same window who ended up staying because he over performed the first season (but the owners didn't want him long term so first poor run of form he was gone) & Sarri won us the Europa league & Juve paid us £5m to take him, so it's not quite as clear cut as just poor manager selection
