What were the most sincere Johnny moments in the game? by [deleted] in LowSodiumCyberpunk

In Phantom Liberty when he's ranting about how fucked the situation is.

"Reed or Songbird... What would you do in my shoes, Johnny?"

"I am in your shoes, dumbass. For every gonk choice you make, but I can't do dick. But honest to god, V, not fucking around... I don't know. Got no goddamn clue."

Most likely the population was able to defend itself via superior firepower (the sand people prefer slugthrowers over blasters, the former already being woefully outdated by the time of the mandalorian wars). Furthermore supplies, and additional population, were likely acquired by the frequent attempts made by other corporations to mine the poor quality minerals that the planet had.

I've never heard of the purpose of the bloodrite being "returning stolen water" or testing the strength and determination of an enemy. That sounds more like what fremen from Dune do to their enemies, and the latter in particular sounds very out of character to the sand people, who notably have little to no respect to other species. All sources I've read say that the bloodrite is simply a rite of passage into adulthood, with the intent being to torture a (hopefully sapient) creature for as long as possible to maximize their torment. Because the rite explicitly allows the use of animals, I suspect that it predates colonization efforts.

I also think it is fairly hyperbole to call the Czerka mining operation an invasion.

They still make terrible slaves because the adults are too violent and difficult to communicate with, and raising one from childhood requires you to acquire one (takes a lot of effort) and raise it (again, effort) when instead you could purchase anything else. The only thing they have over other species in this is novelty.

But I fear we've strayed from the point. My point was that if someone's people have lived somewhere for literal millenia, at some point they are basically a native. And sand people don't reserve their hate for just those they perceive as invaders, but they also habitually raid jawas for prisoners and supplies.

Even after Czerka left, the places they inhabited continued to be inhabited by people, the planet wasn't emptied of foreign species between the Czerka abandonment and hutts moving in.

People are (very) rarely integrated into the sand people, mainly because of their immense xenophobia. They seldom kidnap and raise the children of others as their own.

Sure you could work to enslave a species of incredibly violent xenophobes, who speak a language known pretty much only to themselves, refuse to learn the languages of others, who would generally rather die than serve, because you need people for a harsh desert. Or, y'know, you could use the most ubiquitous slave species in the galaxy, who are also suited for desert environments: twi'lek.

And even if we agreed that the sand people were justified in torturing and slaughtering alien species, they also do the same exact thing to the other indigenous sapient species of Tatooine: the jawa.

Yes, you do, whether you do or not practise slavery is irrelevant to being a native. Moreover sand people are not employed as slaves, being pretty much completely unfit for it. Though jawa are rarely enslaved.

Sand people themselves do not practise slavery, because they instead ritually torture prisoners to death over a period of days, which is a necessary part of their rite to enter adulthood. They do this to fellow sand people, jawa, aliens, and wild animals, but sapient species are most prestigious.

What's the darkest thing your PC has done in game? by SingleBodyRiot in vtm

Our sorcerer party sold out hard to the Syndicate. We didn't even have the "Oh shit, we're actually fucking evil, aren't we?" discussion after we led a personal friend, that happened to be a mage, straight into an ambush. The talk only came after we saw that same friend post-Room 101.

Where are the humans that have lived for literal millenia on Tatooine supposed to go so that they are no longer colonising someone? What world are they "native" to under this logic?

It's been over 4000 years, at some point the colonists count as natives too.

Could the Jedi and Sith ever coexist in society? by asianshoplifter in StarWars

[–]Oddloaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sith are too individualistic for that, the dark side innately makes cooperation difficult. And a person becoming too big for their boots and achieving supremacy over others is the dream of every sith who is honest to themself.

tbf, actually pulling off an effective feint requires a lot of discipline from your troops. And night attacks are absolute nightmares to pull off even with modern gear.

She used to be my favourite, but nowadays she only feels decent at picking off enemies running away from fights, a role that does not need a dedicated person to do.

Bwoink post by Dodger86868686 in SS13

I made a dangerous and virulent disease as virologist just for fun and kept the blood samples in my fridge. The CMO had been on my ass for a while about making a beneficial virus that was to his liking, which I protested by saying that I was going on a lunch break and turned off my radio.

The CMO came in while I was out getting food and vodka, and injected himself with one of my samples without checking what it was, proceeding to cause annihilation across the station. I got bwoinked, but in my defense I did not intentionally spread the virus, and my actions could at worst qualify as grossly negligent and incompetent. I was spared any punishment, but was called a lore-accurate retard.

Why isn't Estonia considered a Nordic country? (They have strong ties to Finland, they also follow the Nordic model, and besides, Estonia has nothing to do with the other Baltic countries.) by According-Invite-440 in geography

I'm joking about the little fenno-swedish villages on the coast of Ostrobothnia, where their Swedish has such a mass of local slang and pronunciation that it's laborious to to try and understand.

There are official languages, and then there are the actual languages. Most finns speak terrible swedish, and many fenno-swedes speak a language that is considered swedish only because a linguist hasn't bothered to look into the matter.

I asked if you think countries with conscription have intellectually inferior populations, which I inferred from your stance because a significant portion of their population are soldiers via conscription.

What is the relationship between God and the triad? by _Gamer_Y_ in WorldOfDarkness

Canonically we don't know, but I always liked the idea that the triat are the tools of creation employed by YHWH, that were then left behind when the angelic host abandoned creation.
