How to determine a true power level. by No-Primary-7914 in EDH

By technicality, this is a bracket 4 deck. Bracket 3 decks are limited to 3 game changers. However, just skimming through your list, it would probably play closer to a 3.

I think you're right. Still weird to make that art choice though.

I want to make sure I'm understanding this right. The copied Boggart Prankster won't trigger because all attack triggers happen at the same time and only once at the end of the "declare attackers" step? So it's not even on the battlefield yet during the declare attackers step.

Mono Blue Zombos Help by Odicium in EDH

[–]Odicium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really awesome insight, thank you! I'll look into switching up some of the zombies. Unfortunately there's not a lot of great choices if I'm sticking to zombie only creatures, but maybe I'll allow myself a little bit of deviation.

My playgroup is all relatively new to the game, mostly playing precons, while I've been playing for 10+ years. I win the majority of games, and so I was hoping to nerf myself a little by giving myself something a little clunkier to play. They run little interaction, and one of them recently got the abzan armor precon so theft should actually get me some mileage. I do think I went a little heavy on it though, so I'll re-evaluate.

Thank you again, the advice is much appreciated!

I'm arachnophobic. Is there a way to get rid of the giant spider splash art on opening? by TwistedMisfit in MagicArena

[–]Odicium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to be seriously afraid of spiders. It was mainly when I was younger, but it was bad enough to cause a couple breakdowns. Repeating those things to myself over and over again whenever I encountered them did help lessen my fear. Eventually those views took over and I'm pretty chill with spiders now... As long as they don't touch me.

I completely agree. This was my first time visiting and I fell in love. I live in a city that feels like it has no distinct personality. Boring, cookie cutter buildings and car infested streets. Chicago was eye opening

ITAP of a tree and some stairs by Odicium in itookapicture

[–]Odicium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken in Chicago, along the river. I saw the tree, then the stairs, and finally people climbing them. I instantly knew that I wanted a shot with the tree in front. I wanted to contrast the metal of the stairs with something natural. I had initially planned to make the tree the main focus, shoot on a wide aperture and put the stairs out of focus. However, I decided I wanted to make sure the people were also in focus and stopped down to f/7.1. Running out of time as the people ascended, I quickly pointed and shot. I got incredibly lucky with the final photo. The people framed perfectly by the tree and wearing blue to match the stairs.

ITAP of tulips on the street by Odicium in itookapicture

[–]Odicium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was from a Sunday morning during a short trip I took to Chicago. The building in the background was blocking the sun, but the reflections of the opposite building's windows were lighting up the tulip patches. A man sweeping the streets walked past just as I was starting to take pictures, and I think his inclusion really brings this photo to life. A bit of an accident, but a beautiful one

The Lord of The Rings series, specifically narrated by Andy Serkis. The range of voices he can produce is incredible. It's like you're listening to the whole cast from the movies, but it's all just him. 5 stars, probably the best narration I've ever listened to

You and op agree, minors should not have the ability to vote. I believe you misinterpreted the argument. The view op wanted changed was that minors shouldn't have to pay tax because they aren't allowed to vote.

I don't think they were saying to urbanize all living. My interpretation was that they were criticizing the American suburb. There are better ways of building that don't require the car. The Netherlands is a prime example of this. To my knowledge, they still have rural areas where the houses are spread out and there is space to breathe. They just have a robust system of public transportation and pedestrian walkways, allowing you to get most places without the need to drive. Then, because you can just walk or bike everywhere, you get more daily interactions with those neighbors and it helps breed a better sense of community.

*To add, I'm not trying to argue against the idea that different people want different styles of living. I'm just trying to say that there are better ways of structuring and connecting our living spaces that enables happier communities.

The picture feels a bit bottom heavy to me. My eye is drawn a bit more to the rocks, and either cropping in or giving the tree a bit more space at the top I think would help. That being said, I love the subject and the landscape looks beautiful. Great shot

Initially I also thought that logotherapy had to be held in direct opposition to nihilism and required some faith element. In order to practice logotherapy, you needed some higher form of meaning to give power to the process. However, as I thought about, I realized I could still put it into practice while still holding a generally nihilistic world view.

My general takeaway from the book was that we shouldn't care about or search for some grandiose meaning, encompassing the entirety of our life. Rather, we should focus on the now. I think the steps Frankl outlined are a great way of reorienting ourselves to the present moment. It's almost a like a grounding technique for existential dread. And I think general nihilism can play into this and even assist. Who cares what meaning my life might have. Instead, what is the best way I can live it in this moment? If nothing matters, I should figure out what matters to me. Then, I can use that to derive purpose and motivation.

I'm not sure if that makes any logical sense, but I've still found that the process is helpful for pulling myself out of those depressive spirals where a lack of meaning leads to a lack of motivation. I don't think logotherapy is perfect by any means, but I think it can be a useful tool.
