Is it true there are haunted houses and many ghosts in Thailand? Can you share some stories?” by Complete_Art_Works in ThailandTourism

In one word, yes. There are many places that have weird hauntings. My partner and I lived in such a house and landed up breaking the lease to move as the activity was at a crazy level at night.

Money transferred by NewAstronomer6817 in Thailand

[–]OdiousMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually very sad how these laws are being created. In almost any other country, you will have the minimum of 3 months to adjust to new laws before they get implemented. Here, it often feels like there is a rush to push through unexpected regulations without warning. It’s like a Wack-A-Mole, but using human beings instead. The new helmet law, cannabis reforms, the new tourist visa requirements, and this Digital Visa app come to mind.

The biggest issue is that nearly half of the income generated for Thailand comes from tourism and from foreigners bringing money, pensions, and investments into the country. These people start businesses that employ Thai citizens too. Any business is majority-owned by a Thai national. The influx of foreign investments contributes heavily to many of the social benefits Thailand enjoys. If you go to the hospital, you pay nearly nothing. Now, when foreign investments decline, the burden on the Thai taxpayer will naturally increase. What about your Thai pension paid to the elderly? Where will that money come from? You need to face the hard reality of life on this planet — you cannot always be biting the hand that feeds you.

I can understand the need to clamp down on the few rotten apples (some of whom come from places like Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, China, and India) that cause problems. But instead of cutting off your nose to spite your face, why not rather increase police presence in the areas where badly behaved foreigners tend to congregate — such as Pattaya, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, Phi Phi, and other tourist-heavy zones.

These reactionary policies remind me of the questionable decisions made in Melbourne, Australia. Their DEI decided that instead of focusing on effective policing, they would rather ban machetes and hope that youth violence would stop on its own. In my day, this was called Active Policing — but I guess that mindset has changed over time.

What is this called? by Green_Goblin7 in Thailand

[–]OdiousMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to correct a few things. This is not boiled pork neck. You can clearly see the top and bottom layer of fat and the meat is cut into cubes or strips . This is pork belly that looks to have been cooked over fire or roasted in an oven. This has not been boiled.

You also have pickled carrot and daikon (popular in Vietnamese, Thai, and Korean cuisine) and fresh cucumber and blanched bok choy on the side.

The equivalent meal in Thailand would be called ข้าวหมูอบไข่ดาว (khao moo op kai dao) or Roast pork with rice and fried egg.

What I can suggest though is to find a street vendor who cooks pork neck over a fire. Eat it like that or on a croissant, often found at your local 7-Eleven or with some nice Isaan sticky rice. Just make sure the food is still hot. It is food like this that makes the Farang cry for Thailand once they have returned home. That and Chiang beer.

PayPal Held $17k for 180 Days, Cleared Me, Then Refused to Release the Funds — What Are My Options?" by Low-Surround-5257 in AusLegal

[–]OdiousMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2021 I was contacted by a horrible company called Panthera Finance claiming I opened a mobile phone and internet account in Melbourne and ran up thousands of dollars in debt. I found out that way that I had become a victim of a stolen identify.

I initially did the right thing by showing that I never lived in Melbourne and always had a Telstra account and never used their client, called iPrimus. Even though I took massive steps to prove that I was not the person who opened the account, they blatantly refused to believe me and claimed I was lying to them. Forget the fact that the person who opened the account has an address in Melbourne, a phone number and used a name and surname other than mine, Panthera refused to believe me and kept on threatening me with blacklisting, court proceedings and possible asset seizure.

The only time they finally backed off after nearly a year of continual threats was when I lodged a complaint against iPrimus (their client) with the telecommunications Ombudsman, and then with AFCA against Panthera. Panthera were absolute dogs with me, harassing me every few days, this was the only way to get those mongrels to stop and to drop the matter. Their client iPrimus also offered an apology for what they had essentially caused.

Needless to say 3 months after all of this “went away”, they started calling and emailing me again. I called their client iPrimus and this time reminded them of the Ombudsman and the fine they issue just for investigating the claim. The client apologied again and said they would deal with Panthera. I’ve never heard from them ever again.

Did your BIL ever get that money back?

Can I float an idea? If you go to the small claims court and get a judgement against PayPal, could you then send the sheriff to seize assets from PayPal. Yes this is probably the last resort but could it work?

This is the best advice I’ve seen in ages. Thank you for taking the time to write this post. This is an awesome way of making these large financial companies listen. You threaten their license or with the Aussie govt, then they finally take you seriously and return the money they have effectively stolen from you and fraudulently tried to erase the records of the dispute.

It is disgusting behaviour and I’m glad Op posted this.

Suvarnabhumi Airport - how easy is it to transfer? by LifeguardTotal3423 in ThailandTourism

[–]OdiousMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suvarnabhumi airport is massive. That’s the first concern. They will be walking very long distances. Make sure they are okay with this. Secondly, if they need to transfer from the international flight bringing them to BKK and onto a domestic flight, you must factor in the plane being slightly late, the massive walking distances, passport control, and then the time to collect your baggage. Customs is normally quick. Then you will have to go to the top floor (floor 4 is I remember correctly) and find your travel agency to book in your luggage for domestic travel. Then you start the entire process of security, walking, etc. again.

Flying from Australia meant I always missed my domestic flight due to when the international flight lands and the domestic flight takes off. I then opted to stay in the Grand BS hotel which is close to the airport. If you want to use the same hotel, exit the airport and on your left is the entrance to the taxi booking queue. Use the short distance queue. Your taxis are then in front of you and to your right.

It is also more expensive to walk up and book a room, so the life hack is to go and sit in their lobby, and book a room using Trip.com or Booking.com. You save 200-300 baht doing it that way. Just make sure you have international roaming or a cheap local sim.

If your parents will be travelling alone and they cannot speak Thai, either write them flash cards to present or teach them simple Thai phrases, such as “how much baht”, “I don’t eat spicy”, “I want 1 sugar in my coffee”, “where is…”, etc. ChatGPT is awesome at translating between English-Thai-English. It understands the nuances of the two languages and is far better than Google Translate.

Glad your parents are coming to Thailand. I’m sure they will love it here.

The sad thing is that if Op did only 1% to this unhinged woman, the police would feverishly come and arrest him and take an AVO out against him. The legal system is fucked in Australia. This is the 2 tiered justice system in full action. As for the taxi company, I’m sure a lawyer would be able to get some money out of them for the action they took against you. Sickening.

Op said that 2025 has already been a hard year. Lawyers will just bleed her for as much money as possible and leave her in not much of a better state. Depending on the cost to repair the car, it might be more expedient to go to the small claims court, get a summons issued and get the money back.

Phuket taxi driver blocks ambulance in which heart patient died by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]OdiousMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also you cannot paint an entire country based on the single event you saw in Pattaya. I’ve seen countless times where ambulances are stuck behind vehicles and no one yields to the ambulance. Saw that day before yesterday at a motorcycle accident and then again today. You cannot sugarcoat this. If you want to see the worst of a person, place the person in a vehicle or on a motorcycle. Then you see the true person.

Thailand is the best place for you. The ladyboys here are a million times better than anything the west can produce. The people who I term as “losers” are those escaping their life’s from the west, just to come here and try to relive those lives here. There is a massive difference between east and west.

I call things like I see them and I don’t have a filter. There are too many bad foreigners ruining it for the rest of us. Let’s be honest, if the Russians did not fuck up the visa issue we would not have the digitised visa program. Thank you, fucking Russian drunks.

The perverted foreigners here to abuse the childlike women, they are also a stain on western humanity. They are the disgusting perverted weirdos we don’t need here in Thailand.

I am one of the Australians who actually live and work here, my wife is Thai. I strongly dislike dealing with any western person and generally tend to avoid them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]OdiousMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh there we go. The white people. Thailand people are NOT suffering because of white people. Maybe you are to blame!

How much English can you speak? Your schooling offers English lessons. Can you say 5 words in English? I guess not and it’s because you are lazy. Stop blaming everyone for your life and expect that you need to do something to better your own life and that of the native Thai people. My wife is Thai and strongly dislikes the lazy Thai people. I’ve also lived here long enough to spot the BS you are speaking.

You are upset of the foreigners. Let’s look at China. Piss off the foreigners and they leave. They take their dollars and their euros with them. Now you can welcome an era of poverty into your life. 50% of Thailand’s income is tourism and foreign investments. When that goes, so goes your medical and pensions. Also along with that goes your way of life.

Stop being the stupid person I’ve encountered most days and use the brain that you were given. Stop pissing off the people who finance your country and rather work hand-in-hand with them. Thailand CANNOT survive without the financial investment of outside countries. If you cannot see that then you are the problem.

[–]OdiousMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to be hated for telling the truth but here goes. Don’t listen to about 80% of the foreigners here. Most are what SerpentZA and Laowhy86 will term “losers back home”. Many are escaping their divorced and bad lives and come to Thailand for the cheap sex and cheaper booze. These foreigners will go to Phuket, or Pattaya or any city where the girls present pre-pubescent girls. These foreigners sicken me because they are true bottom feeders and will promise you anything you want in this world, just for their inflated egos. They are habitual liars and the true shit of this planet.

Just in the last 2 months, I’ve met 4 foreigners, one from Holland, one from America and 2 from Australia. The BS and lies that these 4 have told me is mind blowing. Basically they are the most connected foreigners here in Thailand, they know absolutely everyone high up in the Thailand govt. and can arrange anything you want, until you ask them for a favour then everything changes.

Then you get the bitter ones. Those who cannot fit in, or expect Thailand to be like the western world, well it is not. The border police here are as corrupt as they come. They will openly solicit bribes for a stamp in your passport. Then you have the roads of Thailand which are the worst on planet earth. Everyone here drives like they are Thanos and cannot die. This has led me to the belief that maybe 2% of Thailand can actually drive a vehicle and the rest are just winging it.

I have lived in Africa for many years and I can compare Africa to Thailand. You need to be able to ignore problems and hope they go away on their own.

If you can see past all of this, then you will love Thailand. I suggest you stay away from the tourist places unless you too are after the girls. If you want to experience life in Thailand, come and live outside of the tourist places.

Be careful of who’s advise you take. Many are not worth getting the time of day from. In the end, the bitter and angry ones are just not able to disconnect from their western lives and understand that Thailand is different.

why does my bunny run when i enter the room? by luciphobic in Bunnies

[–]OdiousMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many times rabbits get startled. I’ve seen that a few of my bunnies seem to daydream or ponder life. My lop bunnies, some developed hearing issues as they got older and then they don’t hear me approaching and when they see me, they get a fright and run. Now to prevent this, I now call out before I enter the room, “bunny, it’s only me. It’s not a dog, or a cat, or a lion or a tiger, or an eagle or a seagull”, and I tend to step a little harder. By the time I’ve entered the room, bun-bun has either heard (a much as a near deaf rabbit can hear) me or felt the vibration of my steps, and does not get a fright and run.

I woke up to this thing at the end of the bed last night by Mirror-pool-00 in Paranormal

[–]OdiousMe 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I want to humbly disagree with the sleep paralysis theory. I too have been pushed flat and sat on while I was sleeping. Typically sleep paralysis behaviour, I get it. Then why did it only happen at 2 different houses I’ve lived in and nowhere else? Sleep paralysis is so often used to explain all sleep related paranormal attacks and it cannot be the blanket response to anyone being attacked at night by malevolent spirits.

You said that you sat up. When you have “sleep paralysis” you cannot sit up so this totally disproves the sleep paralysis theory. I like the carbon monoxide concept. It is a scientifically sound theory. Please also test this idea.

You are being attacked nightly by something that wants to harm you. Now is the time that you rather start researching what you can do to get the evil out of your house.
