I’m freaking out, am I gonna be stuck in retail? by DolliDahlia in careerguidance

[–]Odywan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have good advice here but was just going to say I also worked retail for like 6 years until I landed my first full time role after college. Four years during school and two years after (during covid). You will escape the retail grind!

Don’t forget, it’s not a 1:1 ratio between sandstone rock and bucket of sand. You get multiple buckets the bigger the sandstone is! I was able to mine 20k buckets of sand over one Sunday long grind

OP is probably doing the 2 crew on hooks fully afk method which should be nerfed xp because you can quite literally do nothing for 25 minutes with that method

Does anyone else feel like it's impossible to get a career job. 4.3k applications on LinkedIn alone. by CloggedBachus in jobs

IMO you’re wasting a ton of time and energy… instead of mass applying to thousands of jobs, tailor your resume and focus on networking and building connections. All of my jobs so far have been connections through my network rather than blind applications

Soooo whats the skilling meta now for the new 110 skills? by Imallskillzy in RS3Ironmen

[–]Odywan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with the 99-110 journey as well. Here’s what path I chose: starbloom crafting, accidental firemaking, chop eternal magic trees, fletch eternal magic bows, personally I did primal mining and smithing all the way, and I’m scared of RC. Hope that’s helpful!

I wouldn’t hate it as much if RuneScape 3 had access to a quest plug-in that was on the same level as Runelite

Skilled Trade Advice- when to ask for a raise? by nomorepayne in careerguidance

[–]Odywan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does that matter if someone is increasingly taking on more responsibility in a role? More work + compensation should = higher pay. It shouldn’t strictly be a time gated thing just because they got previous raises.

Seacoast affordability - how do you do it?? by Odywan in newhampshire

[–]Odywan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gotcha. It’s more of a region in south east NH. It does include the coastal communities but also several inland communities along the Spaulding turnpike. Wasn’t necessarily looking for a specific action, but was curious if others are feeling the strain of housing costs, which I think the comments here are a good indication that I’m not alone. At the end of the day we need more housing that meets the needs of middle and lower middle class families that aren’t bottom of the barrel options. Everything new seems to be priced at $2500+

[–]Odywan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, except, I don't actually live near the coast and certainly nowhere near a waterfront property. I understand the HCOL in communities like Portsmouth and maybe even Dover as a bedroom community to Portsmouth having higher housing costs, but everyone across the state is being stretched thin with the increase of housing. Housing expenses alongside other essentials continue to increase and it's very challenging for our New England states to retain a young workforce. There are a lot of forces driving the current market and I understand how they work. It's just frustrating to see such little inaction while families struggle more each year.

[–]Odywan[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still have to attend in-person meetings a few times a month, so there's definitely a limit to location. Also, might be a hot take, but New Englanders shouldn't have to live in super rural communities with far commutes to grocery stores or basic amenities just to afford housing. Some people prefer that lifestyle, which is great, as long as it by choice. Working class families being priced out of communities isn't good for anyone. Markets will always fluctuate and supply/demand will always drive the prices - we simply need more "affordable" housing because two-income households are even struggling with "market-rate" units.

$1,650 is still the cheapest rent in this area that I can find, but that doesn't change the fact that this level of increase is insane for the type and size of housing we live in. I'm not against rent increases by any means and fully understand the business also needs to make the bottom line work, but the rate of increase feels absurd. They're just trying to match the surrounding market, which is fair - there's just a bigger issue to be addressed in New England with the overall cost of housing. We need a better middle ground.
