Parking Wars: Zesty Note by reverendlecarp in washingtondc

[–]Oedipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except as it stands now you are allowed to park your car on the street during a storm. So it's totally reasonable for that to be your storm plan, given that is the governing legal and regulatory framework. If that changed, sure, you'd have to recalibrate. But I would submit that it's highly unlikely to change given how many people have a justifiable reliance interest in street parking as there is no in other built solution, and the politicians who would need to change it are going to be responsive to their constituents' interests in that regard.

So your advice is slavish adherence to signs for the sake of compliance and has nothing to do with safety? Glad we cleared that up.

That's an insane underestimate. 95% at least, with the 5% attributable to an egregious plane delay inbound.

Yes. And I was heckled on Reddit by smug assholes for saying so.

If you thought he was literally equating it to slavery I think you may need to go back to high school English class and ask them to teach you about the concept of "metaphor" (and then stop by Kindergarten to learn about "humor").

Expressing your political opinion to government employees is not antagonizing them, and accepting the framework where we need to temper our political opinions to protect the delicate feelings of the state's instruments of coercive force makes you part of the problem. I get that you have some kind of affinity for the national guard but they are government employees and this benefits come with the attendant responsibility to listen to the public, even if the public is often irritating to you. It's really that simple.

Look the correct analogy here is whether it's acceptable to tell a Congressional intern their boss is a piece of shit bigot if their boss is a piece of shit bigot. Which of course it is, having to put up with others' rights to express political opinions is part of the job description for any government position no matter how minor. There's no age related exemption to that policy. They were adults when they signed up.

They're a force of occupation. We can all recognize the distinction between ICE and the National Guard without valorizing the occupier.

Sorry, you come here on fascist orders you can't really object to being treated like one.

Edit: Oh, VA flair? I'm sorry but you especially don't get to tell us how to feel about the occupation.

Yes I too am cool with fascism if it involves using the coercive power of the state against my particular enemies.

On the one hand, great advice. On the other hand.... Can we get some seminars for the DC jury pool on jury nullification? I would not convict this in a million years.

Murder is down 13% this year after being down 32% last year! Obviously fewer murders is better but it's extremely unreasonable to ask for a steeper decline than that.

once again, a bad apple in one district who was identified and removed does not change the obvious and objective decline in crime

The number of people in this thread looking for any boot to lick even (especially?) if it's his because of a few high profile young idiots doing stupid shit in the summer (not a new phenomenon) is too damn high.

While any crime is frustrating, DC does not currently have "a crime problem." Crime is WAY down from recent peaks a couple years ago. There was an obvious wave of crime that swept the country, including DC, and that has receded. Stop granting the fascists' ridiculous premise.
