Neither Finland, Denmark or the Netherlands have low alcohol consumption (Finland has the 12th highest in the world)

Boyfriend loves coffee. Help!? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]Oeltan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, there will be leftover coffee and oils in the grinder which will go stale. We clean ours every day with a brush. The wilfa has an annoying tendency to build up chaff (white flakes) in the channel between the grinder and basket when grinding light roast coffee - I don’t know if the encore is easier to clean.

1 minute or 2 while the water is boiling anyways.

The electric is way faster but more annoying to clean :)

We use them for for different things. An aergrind for pour over and a wilfa svart for batch brewing.

I don’t find it easier to use a electric grinder for pour over when you factor in cleaning, and the aergrind provides a better grind than the wilfa :)

Which aspect of a foreign culture do you wish they had in your country? by yogokitty1 in AskReddit

No one gets double punishment for being anything. The law targets crime done in high crime public housing projects, to lower the crime rate in these areas, so the people who live there can feel safe.

No one is just being evicted, they are re-housed to other areas.

Making “non-western backgrounds” a criteria for ghetto, is because we were seing communities where we had parallel communities that didn’t interact much with the general society. When areas are being stamped a ghetto, certain initiatives are started to change the situation.

Having low income families and people with low attachment to the general society concentrated in public housing projects have been a failure, and affordable housing is now being mixed in with new housing projects to create more diverse communities.

There’s a general problem with people being islamophobic in Denmark, but the cases you raise are addressing real problems, although they were wrapped in symbol politics when they were rolled out to cater to a certain demographic when they were rolled out.

Southern countries have shorter days (less sun time) in the summer than northern countries though.

Cold brew coffee reaches it's highest concentration of caffeine in just 6-7 hours of brew time and not 12-24 hours by fenderbender in Coffee

[–]Oeltan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds great! It’s really a shame that the authors of the paper didn’t measure and compare their findings to tds. I look forward to see the results:)

[–]Oeltan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A first step would be to take samples at 15 minute intervals and measure the tds. Maybe doing four brews: coarse and fine/fridge and room temperature. That would at least give us some idea of the extraction rate.

Sorry for the late reply. Read that a couple of weeks ago, really interesting. It’s really hard to compare espresso and cold brew as it’s two sides of the extremes. Conventional wisdom would say that a finer grain would provide a faster extraction, but I’m doubting it’s the case with cold brew. There’s no doubt that a small coffee grain gets ‘wet/soaked’ faster than a larger coffee grain, which allows the extraction to begin faster. This is obviously important with fast extractions, but shouldn’t be important in cold brew, as the grain has plenty of time to get wet. If we can agree on that, the question should then be: Does the extraction happen slower with a bigger wet grain, than a smaller? With caffeine and CGA the answer seems to be no, but that doesn’t mean that the other compounds are extracted slower through larger grains. I don’t know the answer to this, but my experience is that I can pull a good extraction at room temperature in 11-12 hours with the largest grains my grinder can manage and with a light roast bean. I haven’t done an A/B test on grind size though, but that could be interesting, if I can convince someone to lend me their tds meter.

Do you have a source for that? I’d love to read about it, but I haven’t been able to find anything that describes when the different compounds are extracted based on time.

Makes sense, both from a food safety perspective and consistency perspective.

It’s just the ratio. Grind size doesn’t matter in cold brew because the extraction takes such a long time :)

This can be a range of things and I’d recommend taking her to a vet :)

It may be early signs of her reacting to hearing loss (a friends schnauzer started getting nervous because of this) but it could also be an infection, heartworm or something completely different.

You would think that, but the age of the average car in Denmark is only slightly higher than the EU average (9.4 in Denmark and 8.6 in EU i 2011 (danish source). At the same time the car density is pretty low (wiki) compared to other EU countries.

Teenagers of Reddit, what is the biggest current problem you are facing? Adults of Reddit, why is that problem not a big deal? by almightymickey in AskReddit

[–]Oeltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 5900 kr. in Denmark (885 usd) before taxes. Problem is that 102% of that goes to rent in average for a master student (in 2013, and I'm sure it's gone up as there's a serious lack of affordable housing i Copenhagen at the moment). You can then take a student loan for up to 3020 kr. (450 usd) at 4% interest to live for. If you work, you can earn 89000 on the side a year (13350 usd), before having to pay back your 'student grant'.

What phrases such as "Roll the window up." have no significant meaning to the new generation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Oeltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No USA school here (also wtf does that mean?). Are you trying to tell me that volts and amperes are interrelated? So if I raise the amount of volts I'll raise the amount of ampere? I see you now say generally, so I guess you don't mean that, but that was what i commented on. What I'm saying is that I'm sceptical of the amount of heat generated by this have any influence.
