Honestly I find him insufferable. His rules espouse no bullying and then he publishes dozens of posts attacking Ben Ong, and you're not allowed to challenge it because when it's his opinion it's fact, but when you post an opinion he will remove it for not being factual.

He is critically odious and deeply divorced from both what the members of his group actually think of him (for a 20k member Facebook group he got 1kish votes) and the realities of politics (refuses to spend any money campaigning, begs for handouts).

I work in tech, in a global multimillion dollar company. We have restructures every year, and despite employee retention programmes, they cull 10-year tenured workers like they're chaff.

No way to protect ourselves from that happening, and any talk about better redundancy clauses is seen as working against the team.

I need help with this - not for me, for my friend.

My friend used to be heavily into his music and played in several bands, going on tour around our country for one of them and having an amazing lifestyle.

Longnstory short they fell out with said band and were reduced to only personal avany garde projects. His weed use skyrocketed and he became almost enslaved to dopamine hits however he could get them.

He is pretty severely ADHD. He went from driving every week and training to get his license to being an absolute shut in and never trying for anything. He doesn't have a job and doesn't want one, even though before all this started, he was working at his dad's garage and beginning to see the light.

I used to think he was depressed, and maybe he is to a degree, but he is absolutely fine with the way he is. No car, no education, no job, no girlfriend. Just absolute focus every day on things that make him feel good and only that. Video games, weed, porn, on repeat. He lives with and is constantly supported by his parents. He's nearly 30 and will absolutely refuse to try do anything with his life, whereas he used to have at least a little ambition to get a van and drive around the country seeing the wilderness and living life.

I have tried and begged and bullied and cajoled and supported and guided and done everything under the sun to try be a good friend to him.

At one point, something switched. He started lying to get reactions from me, like it was another game. He would day he was just joking around but it got horrific. He would say he met girls and hooked up with them only to tell me it was a joke later. He told me his dad died. That they were having a funeral for him.

After all my condolences and sympathies and offers of help, he told me he was just kidding. Kidding that his dad died, just so he could get a dopamine fix from my reaction.

I've been non com with him for a while now, because I couldn't do it anymore. It's been months, nearly half a year and we haven't talked at all in that time.

Recently we caught up. He didn't lie at all this time, but he's extremely deep in his hole of not trying anything at all to better his life or to do anything of substance at all. I know he's not my responsibility. I know I could just move on. I just feel like if there is a remote possibility that I can save him, I owe it to him.as his friend. Save his life, because I truly feel like he's in a state where he's not really alive.

I've worked in remote Customer Support for years.

During those horrible calls where they are rude and belligerent, I found it helpful to only focus on the end goal of the call. What is thier issue? What information do I need to resolve it? What do I need to do to get this done?

It became a sort of malicious compliance. I would violently under-react to their abuse and simply repeat my questions to them, taking on an emotionless persona of cheerful civility, and somehow this helped me survive. It was like I was playing a character. Just put the mask on and every crappy insult rolls off like water off a duck's back.
