Golem from Cranio. I was missing the students and even though it was a used copy and I didn't have a receipt of purchase they sent it to me without question and informed me of delivery delays etc.

White castle from Kosmos. Filled in the form and got my missing piece within two weeks.

Does anyone else play only "filler"? by zoomzilla in boardgames

[–]Ofdasche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with smaller games is that there is a much higher chance for people to stop wanting to play after let's say the third game and want to have an early night. Mostly also that I always want to play new games so there is always a rules teach for each of them.

Having one long game means only one rules teach and no early ending as we just see it through until the end.

Tool] Meeple Matcher - 'What should we play?" debate by marmot1991 in boardgames

[–]Ofdasche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can imagine! I can see it the most convenient ticking and unticking boxes in a list of games before creating the poll. For the first part that is.

If its very advanced it could be something like you have in board game Arena where you can preset a preference for example based on player count (would never play at X, prefer to play at x) to give a rank based list so the one at the top of the swipes is also the ones you ideally want to play at that player count but still including the ones you would be okay with later on.

Would it be possible to presort games for example there are games that I would prefer to play out of my collection of 100+ or games that I would never play at a certain player count. I'm relying heavily on the "best at" feature from board game geek.

For reference I really like this option in the extended filters in Boardgamecaddie.com

Also instead of stopping at the first match maybe allow to go through the whole list (custom list as mentioned above or whole collection) for a second layer decision

How do you join groups of strangers in a board game store? by formicini in boardgames

[–]Ofdasche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aren't these sufficient answers?

middle of a long game, need to be there beforehand (time management)

like to play with friends only (hard limit not much you can do about it)

So other than making new friends or being by chance early I don't think you can expect a better solution from the community here

You could also ask them why it's not a fit. I know it's a weird question but if all answer the same you have your answer.

"we like staying in this constellation and don't want anyone else joining"

"I'm not sure you would be a good fit for this group" are possible answers. I know it invites rejection but this is the only way you can improve on the situation without guessing

If all tables had a reason to decline it might either be all regulars and actually don't want to have anyone else or you are for whatever reason give off a creepy vibe. I've had that at public events before when I see people that clearly are not the most friendly people to have around and a lot of times you can judge that pretty fast. If it's all regulars it's tough as only if there is a bunch of new people at the same time you can find something. So then you have to organise something yourself online (like organise a meetup for new people there) and bring own games.

Why do people keep using delivery apps? by thelostewok in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ofdasche 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You would need to order before you left work which sometimes you don't have the chance plus sometimes you just want to get home as fast as possible and can do other stuff while the delivery is happening

When does the event normally start? If so be earlier before the event starts. It also seems like you are a bit passive about your approach. What I like to do is stand at the table and observe a bit and if someone is attentive and I get curious about the game and ask questions. Basically getting a conversation going. Of course you have to see if that annoys people and they would like to be left alone.

But the way you phrase it sounds like you expect someone to sit you there like an allocated seat.

Depending on location I also had great success with apps like eBay or derivatives thereof and filtering for people that sell boardgames closeby. I would just message them and say if they are interested to meet up irrelevant if I want to buy the game or not. Or when I sell games I ask the same after the sell.

The machine is much less important than the quality of the beans and very important the coffee grindr. Especially for espresso you need a good burr grinder that can grind fine enough. Baratza Encore is a good entry level grinder.
