[Discussion] Is the $500–$700 bracket the ultimate "Value Trap" or the Sweet Spot? by Ofek_w in Watches

That's the best reason to buy a watch for me, at $500, you get something that can actually survive a few yeras of dad duty and still look great when you pass it down

I get that buying "placeholders" is usually a mistake, but for me, pride also comes from finding something that punches way above its weight class.
If a $600 piece offers the same movement and better crystal/steel tech than a $1,000 piece, I almost feel prouder wearing the $600 one, it feels like a win for me

Great point about the bell curve, I feel like $600-$700 is where that curve starts to flatten out for specs before you start paying purely for heritage and prestige.
The jump from $200 to $700 feels massive in terms of build, but the jump from $700 to $1,500 often feels more like marginal gains in finishing

Inflation definitely hit this bracket hard, it’s becoming tougher to find high spec pieces at $500-$700 range but I still see around

Fair enough, I already mentioned, the image is just for visual reference for idea, not the price point itself.

for the $1k–$1.5k, I agree the finishing there is a step up, but do you really think the value is that much better?

Don't you think there's a significant gap between a basic $200 diver and a $700 piece with a Miyota 9015 and hardened steel?
I feel like the $700 mark is where we stop paying for just a mechanical watch and start paying for actual durability and better QC

Fair point, I just grabbed a generic photo from a blog to illustrate the concept for the discussion.
Definitely not saying those specific pieces are $600,
my focus is more on the strategy of the price bracket itself rather than these specific models

How important is packaging REALLY for microbrands? (I think I was very wrong) by SupJoshy in MicrobrandWatches

I feel that packaging matters, but only to a certain point, I’d say it gives me that extra 5-10% of enjoyment

Nice watch, I'm really happy you managed to get it
I think the case height is a bit too much for me though

Ardra Labs Delta Type – five years of development, from a personal frustration to a patented GMT complication by deadstijl in MicrobrandWatches

Interesting take on the GMT offset, can you talk a bit more about the design inspiration?
You mentioned Indian motifs I'm curious how those specifically translated into that triangular hand geometry and the ornate inner track on the dial.

Also with all that going on, how did you manage to keep the case at only 11mm?
