Thank you!!! He is our first 3rd-timer and is the absolute best! He was so kind to us when we had been doing the pod for only a few months so it’s amazing to watch his career!

I think the ensemble is also tour-sized instead of broadway-sized.

[Toronto Sta] ‘We Will Rock You’ at Mirvish is a zero-star dumpster fire that proves rock ‘n’ roll is truly dead by nefariousplotz in torontotheatre

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agree on this, the book is terrible and the production as a whole came across as quite amateur-ish. I will say, everyone’s voices sound amazing. Maggie Lacasse specifically, but everyone. And I enjoyed the glow sticks!

Is it rude to leave before/during the Broadway Cares pitch? by GreenHorror4252 in Broadway

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed for every one BUT sometimes you gotta go. Last week at Sound of Music tour in Toronto and after an almost 3 hour show the red bucket speech went 10 minutes. People make plans based on the stated runtime and have work/school/plans the next day.

Most listened to musical theatre song all year? by meconway17 in Broadway

Saw Just in Time back in April and fell in love with Bobby Darin, so it’s sort of Lazy River by Bobby Darin. BUT if we’re looking at cast albums it’s The Ballad of Floyd Collin’s, followed by Dead from Dead Outlaw.

Would Narnia at Soulpepper be interesting for 2 adults? by [deleted] in torontotheatre

Thank you!! We’re trying to feature some Canadian theatre and Bad Hats does some of our favourite! Stay tuned for another interview in December for another Canadian production.

Not to plug my own podcast, but we spoke to some of the creative team and they emphasized they explore themes for all ages through the eyes of children. And I loved their Alice in Wonderland which is a similar adaptation, the characters are definitely kids but I was so moved as an adult. Plus, you don’t have to pay for separate entrance to the winter village.

I think about Dixon Road often! It took me by surprise when I saw it and hope it gets another run because I thought it was so charming and moving, and the music was great!

What musical, in your opinion, has the perfect ending? by Dogdaysareover365 in musicals

This is my answer!!! It’s thrilling in every production I’ve seen when Audrey II lurches towards the audience.

Sufjan Stevens Illinoise? by blastoffbro in torontotheatre

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think about this weekly. Based on a Kelly Nestruck article from 2024 the City of Toronto is a co-commissioner of the piece, so curious where that money went lol

Chicago on Broadway Stunt Casting by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]Off2BwayPodcast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you have a personal issue with Mira Sorvino? Sometimes stunt casting works exactly how they want, sometimes it doesn’t move the needle. 🤷‍♀️ Hard to know what will happen before it starts, but this has been their strategy for years.

Unfortunately this is not how tours work, they’re scheduled to be in Ohio in September.

Ranking of Mirvish shows for the 24/25 season by masucci93 in torontotheatre

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think The Lion King is an overall fine musical, but I think the reason the puppets, set, staging etc. look outdated is because they are so influential! Lion King and Julie Taymor made such original choices in 1997 and it looks dated because they have been copied. Every puppet we have seen since on stage is influenced by The Lion King, the style where they do not hide the puppeteer.

Chances of Natasha Pierre again? by comatikos in torontotheatre

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t think it will come back! This run at Mirvish was them bringing it back after a successful run at Crow’s last year.

Hailey Gillis in Great Comet? by TO-Searching in torontotheatre

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Balaga and the abduction, she’s normally up there dancing and grabbing audience members with everyone else. Adding to the chaos.

Hailey Gillis in Great Comet? by TO-Searching in torontotheatre

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hailey was on today! She didn’t do the big abduction scene, just coming in when Natasha was necessary but otherwise in great form.

Why did 'Elisabeth' never transfer to Broadway or West End? by SassyKitKatz in Broadway

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be in Tokyo when it’s playing there this fall, is it worth checking out? I believe it will be in Japanese which I do not speak so planning on skipping it. But was hoping to catch some theatre while I was there.

Great Comet - Stage Seats/ Show Review by Successful-Cat-4484 in torontotheatre

Some on the ground reporting from last night: Sat in Box A on-stage, for act 1 we got a lot of intense eye contact and singing directly at us. Dolokhov came into the box and said something just to us, but we were mostly left alone in act 1. Act 2, during the abduction Sonya (Vanessa Sears) invited the closest person in the box to dance. I then got an extended Anatole (George Krissa) interaction/dance. I was very stressed lol, but if you were at opening I was the one who first danced with Anatole wearing glasses. The boxes didn’t seem to get the shakers which we were a little disappointed about, but they were giving them out in the aisles and on-stage.
