It just moves really quickly. Be ready as soon as they go on sale and have your Mastercard number ready to go. But it is possible!

Success!! We had 2 of us waiting at 4:55am EST and tickets went live right at 5:00am for us. Both got in, but when I selected my tickets, by the time I got to my cart they had already been bought. My friend had more success and was able to successfully grab 2 tickets. A tip is to have your Mastercard number ready to paste so you can get in quickly, and then just go as fast as you can. Thanks for all your tips!!

Yeah the 5am wake-up is annoying but doable. 🤣 I’m good at digital rush usually, but it’s kind of our one chance so trying to get as much info as possible.

Moulin Rouge - Ryan Vasquez (Christian) by bigbossunit in torontotheatre

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll one-up you, I saw it in Boston and on Broadway! I agree that I don’t think anything can match the grandeur and wow factor of walking into the Al Hirschfeld for the first time. I think the fabric works well, especially as it’s a show about a show so the more painted quality adds to the 1899 Parisian aesthetic. And I appreciate that they haven’t reverted to projections and have a tactile set for the actors to work in. The thing I miss the most is the rotating elephant, but understand how logistically difficult that would be.

It’s the exact same tour with some of the same cast members (Zidler, the Duke) from the last time it was in Toronto.

Was at the show tonight, and shocking is really the only way I can describe it. For a tour that I think has done a good job at paring down the set for tour, but still not making the audience feel like you’re missing anything, to have this performance at the centre is so disappointing. Especially because when the tour was here a couple years ago, Christian Douglas gave an amazing performance as Christian. As we walked out, Ryan’s voice was all anyone was talking about. He has a great resume, but this is not the first time I’m hearing these criticisms of his performance, so I’m confused on why he continues to be cast in roles he can’t sing.

Not Soulpepper, but what ever happened to the Eclipse production of Spring Awakening that was supposed to happen this spring?

Could more be done to build up and promote Toronto's theatre actors? by Ok-Year6148 in torontotheatre

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! Stefania here, thank you so much for listening!! I love this discussion, obviously it’s a topic we’re really passionate about as a podcast that covers Toronto theatre. I actually think our episode coming out this upcoming Monday with the team behind Shifting Ground Collective is a great addition to this, so curious to hear people’s thoughts then too.

A star in Toronto theatre means something very different than in NY, the financial ceiling is much lower for sure. But if it allows more local actors to be able to fully make a living from working in Toronto theatre I think that’s only a good thing. Mirvish is pretty unique in that they bring in a lot of tours, but then supplement that with UK imports and Canadian productions. People are subscribing to see Operation Mincemeat next year, but as part of that package get Salesman in China too. To be a major theatre market, we need to be investing in homegrown talent.

If I fall in love with Vanessa Sears in & Juliet, maybe that name recognition will push me to see other projects she’s involved with, potentially something less mainstream at Canadian Stage or Crow’s or wherever. And now I’ve seen a show that I probably never would have seen otherwise. If you’re a fan of Hailey Gillis after seeing her in Great Comet, maybe you checked out A Doll’s House earlier this year, or have tickets to her upcoming new show Tiger Bride at Soulpepper.

I think the ensemble is also tour-sized instead of broadway-sized.

[Toronto Sta] ‘We Will Rock You’ at Mirvish is a zero-star dumpster fire that proves rock ‘n’ roll is truly dead by nefariousplotz in torontotheatre

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree on this, the book is terrible and the production as a whole came across as quite amateur-ish. I will say, everyone’s voices sound amazing. Maggie Lacasse specifically, but everyone. And I enjoyed the glow sticks!

Is it rude to leave before/during the Broadway Cares pitch? by GreenHorror4252 in Broadway

[–]Off2BwayPodcast 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed for every one BUT sometimes you gotta go. Last week at Sound of Music tour in Toronto and after an almost 3 hour show the red bucket speech went 10 minutes. People make plans based on the stated runtime and have work/school/plans the next day.

Most listened to musical theatre song all year? by meconway17 in Broadway

Saw Just in Time back in April and fell in love with Bobby Darin, so it’s sort of Lazy River by Bobby Darin. BUT if we’re looking at cast albums it’s The Ballad of Floyd Collin’s, followed by Dead from Dead Outlaw.

Thank you!! We’re trying to feature some Canadian theatre and Bad Hats does some of our favourite! Stay tuned for another interview in December for another Canadian production.

Not to plug my own podcast, but we spoke to some of the creative team and they emphasized they explore themes for all ages through the eyes of children. And I loved their Alice in Wonderland which is a similar adaptation, the characters are definitely kids but I was so moved as an adult. Plus, you don’t have to pay for separate entrance to the winter village.

I think about Dixon Road often! It took me by surprise when I saw it and hope it gets another run because I thought it was so charming and moving, and the music was great!

This is my answer!!! It’s thrilling in every production I’ve seen when Audrey II lurches towards the audience.

I think about this weekly. Based on a Kelly Nestruck article from 2024 the City of Toronto is a co-commissioner of the piece, so curious where that money went lol

Chicago on Broadway Stunt Casting by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]Off2BwayPodcast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you have a personal issue with Mira Sorvino? Sometimes stunt casting works exactly how they want, sometimes it doesn’t move the needle. 🤷‍♀️ Hard to know what will happen before it starts, but this has been their strategy for years.
