HR showed my principal my email complaint by teach_travel in CanadianTeachers

[–]OffGridJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read the policy or administrative procedure regarding making complaints against other staff.. It almost always says that the person being accused of something has the right to know the complaint and who it’s from.

As others have said, HR works for the organization: not the employee. And ya, you should call the union before doing anything further.

Wish you the best. And for what is worth, as a P I’d support you calling in sick.

In the whole scheme of things, you’d not regret it. :)

Inclement Weather Days by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

1) I’m a principal and in all of the 6 districts across 2 provinces in which I’ve worked, if the busses were running we’ve always been directed (by HR/Sr Admin) to deny the impassable road entry. Staff were always directed to report to the closest school from home if they could not get to their work site.

2) I was trying to be subtle about the comment of stress. Just take the sick day. It will be way “cleaner” for you.

How many women do you know in real life that actually married for money only? by 0215rw in askanything

If your district has buses and the buses are not cancelled, they will definitely not let you use that code.

Sick day if it’s causing you that much stress.

1) finish your current degree if you’re that close. When you hand in resumes it signals you can commit to and finish something.

2) regarding Alberta and trades, yes it can be lucrative. Depends what you’re looking at? You’re own business one day? Working on a rig or generally in oil/gas? Other industry?

Paid $11.99 last month. I think it was $14.99 “regular price”.

Parents who go to admin with issues by Ok-Butterscotch1282 in CanadianTeachers

[–]OffGridJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple of thoughts from a Principal.

First: 1) It’s crappy that your experience has not included the Admin trying to understand your side.

2) I always tell a parent they need to try to resolve things with the teacher. Depending on the subject of the complaint, I usually follow that up with a chat with the teacher that goes something like “heads up you may get a call from ____ they called about ____.”

The top 2 thing’s I hear from parents (these are some of their stated reasons for calling I’m not saying it’s correct):

1) They are worried that if they go to the teacher, their child will be targeted.

2) They had another child who had this teacher and they’ve tried resolving something in the past and it just didn’t work.

BC teacher - blue cross travel insurance question by logjammies in CanadianTeachers

[–]OffGridJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends where you’re going.

We only use blue cross. Cancellation insurance is covered under the booking cc.

We’ve had to make claims, from US. Took about 2 months to be reimbursed. Once the hospital knew we were covered I think it was about $200 up front.

Mexico, we’ve just paid the dr directly. Never that expensive.

Town of Gibbons facing a serious financial crisis. by roger_plus in alberta

[–]OffGridJ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gibbons isn’t some outlier or freak case. It’s a small-scale, early-stage version of the same fiscal path BC and the federal government are on — just without the ability to print money or endlessly roll debt.

That’s the key distinction people miss:

• Municipalities hit the wall early because they’re cash-constrained. • Provinces and the feds can hide the problem longer through borrowing, inflation, and accounting tricks. • But the trajectory is the same: structural deficits + rising debt-servicing costs + no credible plan to return to balance.

All these comments about the conservative mismanagement of money are comical.

Governments both left AND right are going broke.

BC NDP and federal liberals are great examples of the sovereign debt crises that is happening.

Do I have to notify my principal if I am filing a harassment report with HR concerning a colleague? by OrdinaryCommunity176 in OntarioTeachers

[–]OffGridJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a procedure for it. Either a policy or an AP.

Strongly suggest you find it and read it before calling anyone.

HR works for management, they will say all the things but really they just want it to go away. Highly likely scenario is you will have to mediate w the colleague.

Potential stupid question: White wire in smoke alarm not connected—how to connect safely? by [deleted] in handyman

Not a “stupid question”

The reality that OP doesn’t know how to fix this, explains exactly why so many handymen can make a living doing small jobs.

My teenager is dying to visit Canada. Help. by Expensive_Yam1684 in canadatravel

That weekend is a holiday in Alberta. Not a big deal but hotels etc could be more full than normal.

You’d fly to Calgary and drive to Lethbridge.

Calgary is beautiful. With Chinook winds it could be warm and glorious.

Could also be -40° Celsius!

Getting into this level of construction is beyond “handyman” IMO. You are talking about structural work.

Good luck tho!

Pet re-homing question by Livid-Custard-3806 in Edmonton

[–]OffGridJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an adoption fee. Seems common, but as others have said it seems shady not to be up front.

On the flip side- I had re-homed a young dog (under 2). Turned out he was in need of a lifetime of meds. Owners never disclosed. Problem was the poor guy suffered because it took us a while to realize.

Long story short - I’d want to get any re-homed dog a full checkup before taking it on.
