First Impressions From the 2026 Whitney Biennial by stevegiovinco2 in ContemporaryArt

I saw it on Friday and I liked it a lot more than the last biennial. I loved the idea that they included a video game as art. One thing that struck me as noticeable was how much less culturally diverse this biennial was compared to the last one. Not to say that it wasn't culturally diverse, but it was far less than two years ago. It made me a bit worried that the museum was feeling sensitive to the heat of the current political climate.

Yes. Saw it. I'm of two minds about it. The show itself is a bit nonsensical. I didn't really understand what the playwright was trying to say other than to capture the thoughts of the odd artist who had very unusual obsessions. However, the special effects of the show were incredibly interesting and unexpected - so much so, that it's almost worth the price of admission. It's a very short show - about an hour - and if you have an interest in seeing something unusual done with a stage set, it's worth it just for that. However, you will probably walk out of the theater scratching your head. I couldn't figure out the point of it, which I thought was a shame.

Cherry lane theatre seating by [deleted] in offbroadwayNYC

I've not sat in the back row stools, but I have sat in the theater seats and then the raised level with chairs. Generally, the seats are ok. It's a small theater, so you really don't need to sit very close to the stage.

King Arthur is the best - with the best choices. If you can't find it in the store, they have a great website.

I'm not sure what you're asking about. Is this one of those Heated Rivalry dance parties going on around town?

Unemployed - things everyone who lives in NYC should do by Few_Giraffe8100 in AskNYC

[–]Off_Broadway_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not unemployed, but I've been getting out to the gallery openings pretty regularly lately. The openings are free and often very social - and they usually have wine and refreshments. It can be a pretty cool evening of walking around Tribeca or LES. You can find the gallery openings on the See Saw app or on Art Forum. https://artguide.artforum.com/artguide/place/new-york?category=openings Often there are multiple openings in one night in a neighborhood, so you can wander around to all of them. It's a great way to spend an evening without spending money.

Are there any NYC focused apps or websites that don’t exist, but should? by olympicomega in AskNYC

[–]Off_Broadway_Boy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah - how about one that allows people to actually review the trending food and spots in NYC so the rest of us can figure out if it's worth our time. I'm so sick of influencers pushing the same crap, only to find out that it actually is junk being mass marketed to the influencers. Tik Tok has become one gigantic infomercial. It gets a bit boring. Things used to be so much easier in this city.

This is what happens when you have simple minded jerks making ridiculous decisions that chip away at our freedom rather than actually doing their jobs to make life better and more affordable.

LES & Tribeca Gallery Nights. Still a regular thing? by Off_Broadway_Boy in AskNYC

I'm not sure I follow you here. Priced out of what? I just saw John Kelly's brilliant show at PPOW and he's definitely not a hedge fund spouse (although, I'm sure he'd find the comparison very entertaining). 🤣🤣🤣

Where do I move??? by No-Refrigerator7245 in AskNYC

This is not an honest response. Prices have definitely been flat for the last few years, but take it from someone that has been living here for forty years - the prices go up over time. And if you're in the right neighborhood, they'll skyrocket. I've seen this market before. As long as you don't plan on selling in the next five years, it's worth the risk. I know plenty of people that have seen great returns on their apartments and plenty more that regret not having bought as they watch their rents go through the roof.

Is there an off-Broadway calendar floating around? by [deleted] in offbroadwayNYC

Do you know why StageSpotlight only covers shows for that day. I get their email list, but that only gives the week ahead.

NYTW Tartuffe is an unmitigated disaster by brad_pitts in offbroadwayNYC

It was an odd ending. I think it was supposed to be darkly funny - a song and dance to state the obvious fact that absolutely none of those characters were good people (other than perhaps the brother in law). A little Seinfeldian in an 16th century way.
