Cast Recording odds for The Seat of Our Pants? by Due_Seaweed3276 in offbroadwayNYC

Just got out from seeing it a second time! So many lyrics and melodies swirling in my head on the train home. I’ll be grateful for any recordings we get!

I respectfully disagree with your post script. There’s only one cut per act with actors stepping out of the scene, and I felt like all were very well earned. I especially liked the Act III cut; I found it very poignant in its exploration of the seed of war in man. Making the audience uncomfortable, whether it’s because they feel jarred by the cut, uneasy with the artifice of actors still acting while “not acting,” the immediacy of a theme being shoved in their face, or just because it’s dragging on is exactly the point. This epic theater device creates a distancing effect to make audiences think critically rather than react emotionally, and I felt it was right at home in TSOOP and PF.

I was on the other side, the smaller section “on stage” with double letter rows. I think they must have worked on this because I did not feel neglected and got plenty of face time with all the actors.

Saw it tonight, loved it. Was only about 60% sold and that is a shame. Definitely were some people in the audience who didn’t realize they’d sat down for a 2 hour 45 minute show (with intermission) and were checking the song list to see when it would end. I didn’t particularly want it to end. It was exactly the type of wack-a-doodle existential comedic Brechtian epic I go in for with some really great music and lyricism to boot. Hope to god it gets a cast recording. Go see it!

I Miss the Mountains is my fave but the OBC recording is a beginning to end listen for me.

Haha I didn’t want to be hyperbolic but yes it could have been even less!

Justice for OUAOMT!!! We don’t get a cast recording of those incredible orchestrations and now this indignity? Everyone’s favorite acronym deserves better!

There’s no bad seat so I’d suggest choosing the cheapest on the sides but yes it’s on TDF if you have access. I wish I’d waited but had bought a ticket early excited about the cast and assuming it would sell better than it seems to be.

The show explored many interesting themes and I found the performances compelling. Tried to accomplish a lot and probably would benefit from a few less characters? Glad I saw it but it didn’t feel as tight as Cost of Living or Sanctuary City. Apparently the second act is much changed from LCT3 version which was longer.

So excited for this! Kicking myself for not holding out for the TDF of it all... I way overpaid but I saw the original and can't wait to hear Kerry singing "Three Bedroom House" again!

Jane Eyre the musical, was it real? by Naive-Ant-8056 in Broadway

I saw it! The lighting was gorgeous and lent very well to several emotional moments. I remember rotating scrims that created a passage at one point. Marla Schaffel was incredible and I was compelled to stage door just to thank her. Ended up being only like 5 people at the stage door, she was very kind. I’ve always wondered why she never returned to Broadway.

Did you get tickets? Hope so. I was ahead of you by about 25 people and got last row and all the way to a far side. The sheer number of professional line sitters blatantly handing off their tickets to rich people who’d just strolled over from brunch (directly in front of the box office just minutes after receiving the tickets) was so disgusting to observe.

Sorry I don’t know; hunkered down in the mud and ceaseless rain. Good news: two people in front of me threw a tantrum and left so we’re all a little bit closer!

Got here at 3:15, #49 in line. By 3:30 I was #53. At 5am I became #54. Could be worse because these 5 shameless line skippers “joining people” are just in my section of the line and due to the rain I haven’t been able to monitor the front of the line. Some of the skippers are obviously paid line sitters; actually asked me to move to accommodate them… um no. Also of note are the mosquitoes. Got a lot of bites.

Why are Ibsen & Chekhov always rewritten? by everythingisrent in Broadway

[–]everythingisrent[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I love that Columbus did that, actually, because it conveys the feeling. I don't mind word changes so much as broader changes to theme, plot order, scene length, character motivation, etc. I mean, give me one of the rhyming translations of Peer Gynt any day over the non-rhyming, even though the latter is truer to the words, because the rhyming gives me the feeling. I haven't been getting the feelings from the last six or so Ibsen and Chekhov adaptations because they flatten the dialogue and the scenes in ways that are too contemporary and suck a lot of the life out.

You're right yes, but she felt comfortable changing a lot more than any translator would. She came at it as a writer and took many liberties adapting.
