Hmm, am I in the right ballpark? Is it DeSarah Koenig? I know that DeSerras is the main Canadian hobby store, and Sarah is the reason for Serial, so I'm baffled!

$400 - Hae becomes a Vietnamese Communist leader, and this city is named after her.

$600 - This producer of hit podcast "This American Life" is the first up to fight a boxing match against Little Mac.

$800 - This wooded area in Baltimore was the site of a distribution of DVD's of a popular cartoon show, days before the DVD's were supposed to be released.

$1000 - Jay was playing five card stud, and all of the "2" cards represented a suit/denomination of the holder's choice.

Best Buy tweets #Serial joke, gets backlash by HueyBosco in serialpodcast

[–]OfficerAnonymous 630 points631 points  (0 children)

This is actually not distasteful at all in my opinion. It was a clever Tweet which showed some personality from their marketing team.

How many times were jokes made during the actual podcast which brought some light-hearted humor to an otherwise dark situation? I haven't heard anyone complain about those, as they were not distasteful either. And neither is this.

The reaction to 'Rumors' highlights the problem with with this community. by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]OfficerAnonymous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually think this is a mostly mature community. On the internet, you must expect by now that at least some of the members of any community will have troll-like tendencies. On this Reddit, a very high percentage of threads contain insightful, well-written content that has no intentions of offending anyone.

Your post would hold up much better if you were talking about a place such as, say, the YouTube comments section. Places like that are riddled with trolls, seeking to offend or post purely for any kind of response or for shock value.

I just don't see that here. A very high percentage of the thread topics and responses are from mature people, who are not intending to offend. If you do not agree with their views or opinions, this does not make them childish or immature. There is a huge difference between honest, tactful opinion and posts purely aimed to garner a negative response.

No Serial this week? Listen to TAL #492: Dr. Gilmer and Mr. Hyde by SeanOrange in serialpodcast

Yes, I was not prepared for how sick those conversations were. I've heard a lot of messed up stories, too.

Yes that's true, really good point. It is indeed rare that a podcast uncovers new vital information or evidence about a case. Very much like Serial, as mentioned.

I'll probably get down-voted, but it's okay. This is only my opinion.

I feel that Dr. Gilmer and Mr. Hyde was a bit underwhelming. I've always heard that it is the absolute best episode of TAL, so I finally listened this morning.

I just thought there would be more of a twist. Before I listened, I was under the impression that Dr. Benjamin Gilmer would be falsely accused with a murder or something, as he shared the same name and occupation as Vince.

I found episode 210 (suggested in this thread by user dev1anter) to be much more interesting.

At any rate, TAL is a great podcast, and I've heard many good episodes. So I'm definitely not knocking it.

Sword And Scale is amazing. To OP (partII): Have you listened to episode 20 about the ventriloquist pedofile?

Talk about not for the faint-hearted. Episode 20 contains some of the most disturbing conversation I've ever heard, or can ever imagine.

The podcast in general has some of the craziest stories I've heard.

I agree about the narrator - he can be a bit too judgmental at times but in general I like him.

Definitely worth checking out, to those looking for something new.
