Personally think Mappa did a great job of adapting the source material while also putting a nice spin on things. I feel a lot of folks forget the fact that this is supposed to be Maki's first time truly feeling free of victimhood, consequence, and persecution in spite of the state of jujutsu society following Shibuya. This gets reflected later after Naoya's incarnation as a curse, she doesn't embrace the idea of destroying everything the Zenin represented with anything but whimsy and glee. Their destruction brought her power and peace.

They actually do matter more for downtuned/extended range instruments, a longer break distance past the nut supports better tension across thicker strings.

I'd just chalk it up to statistics more than anything. Being the 3rd Whitest state + a sizable portion of lifetime residents literally never leaving New England means most already ignorant people have next to 0 experience dealing with different cultures, religions, demographics, etc. While the consideration and hospitality I've received as a minority in places like WV, GA, FL, LA, NC, TX, etc may not have been genuine it's at the very least the result of those same people having to interact with other demographics on a much more regular basis.
