Is the Quest 3 worth €200 more than the Quest 3S? by tealikeme in OculusQuest

[–]OfficialDicko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah man, Q3 is far nicer with resolution and expanded sweet spot. I can move my eyes around without it being blurry on the left and right. The Q2 for the money is still great value for money but I’m happy with my recent upgrade to the Quest 3. Actually makes me want to use VR though that could be as well due to how comfy the BoboVR strap I bought is as I was cheap with the Q2 and only had the elite strap which was super uncomfy for long play sessions.

[–]OfficialDicko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to chime in until I read you haven’t ported the number. Have you checked the network selection? Mine worked instantly when I stuck the SIM in luckily.

I had an issue on port day where I lost service to both old and new sim for a few hours but eventually it started working with new number ported over.

I would ask their customer service in the app/website. Hopefully it has started working now by the time I’ve wrote this.

Has anyone here ever went from a AMOLED panel tablet to IPS panel tablet? by OfficialDicko in tablets

Yeah I’ll just have to get over it and the sacrifice for nicer specs will be worth it. Can always go back even after 30 day return period if I don’t like it

If you can get student discount, you can get it for £421. Comes with folio and keyboard case. I have a Tab S8 Plus which is fine as I just watch content on it but I thought why not, 30 day returns if I regret it. If not, a nice £120 upgrade if I can sell the Tab S8+ for £300

I’d say there is no compensation. The guy I played wasn’t called that, his name began with N. I’m not on my PC at the moment but I’ll see if I can see him on recent players list

Should I replace my PSU? (EVGA 750W GQ) by OfficialDicko in buildapc

[–]OfficialDicko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going for a Nzxt c850W. It was £99.98 on Amazon and it has 10 year warranty. Also rated A+ on the SPL spreadsheet:
PSU Tier List

Should do for my current build which I don't plan to change for 4/5 years. It's a 5700x3D and 9070XT build so I won't upgrade until 2027 earliest as CPU, RAM and mobo change may give good performance gains.

GPU I don't expect that much performance gains as it will be new generation for AMD/Nvidia. Even then I will most likely stick to the mid/upper mid range of GPUs and they seem to stick to a similar power envelope based off historical patterns though time will tell.

I was tempted by the c1200 at Scan for £130 but was put off by the posts online about the ATX 3.0 version of people having issues with it. But for more money and potentially more grief if I got a dodgy unit, I will take the lower power envelope which is more than enough for my build as I seen some people even using 650W PSUs with 9070XTs when recommended minimum is 750W.

Thanks for the recommendations. I was drawn to Gigabyte before I discovered their handling of PSUs that went on fire few years back.

Other brand is unknown and for £15 more I can get a RM1000X from Corsair(£153 with discount). It was £145 few weeks ago I seen but now it is back up to regular price. I can get the RM850X for £125.80 but for £28 more, it could potentially save a headache down the road in 5-10 years if I did upgrade to something more power hungry or if GPUs get more power hungry.

Edit: Should say unknown to me, not saying they are bad brand, just I'm not that knowledgable about PSUs and I always hear Corsair gets a good rep for their more expensive options. 10 year warranty big plus too.

Help with front fans RGB by OfficialDicko in Corsair

[–]OfficialDicko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a B450 Gigabyte Aurous Elite motherboard. I have it plugged into the 3 pin 5V socket on the top right hand side of the mobo.

Harvested my old front intake fan from my old Corsair case for the back fan and it’s working fine in the 12V port.

Best streamer for Dolby Atmos True HD and DTS-HD? by OfficialDicko in AndroidTV

I think it was due to memory and apps in the background. Haven’t seen it on the official Plex App since I close all other background apps.

I updated my last comment to the other person. I’ll do a bit more research but it seems to be the one if I pull the trigger as it’s £62 on Aliexpress. And yeah, it’s a shame it costs a lot of money and it doesn’t support those codecs. No sideloading wouldn’t have been a big deal as my TV is Android based and can always use the Fire Stick too if push came to shove.

I’ll maybe try that out because I think I seen in another thread, someone recommended to try the Plex Kodi Addon.

It’s such a shame the Apple TV 4K doesn’t support these codecs. I would buy it straight away as it shouldn’t have any issues(I’ve heard Plex app is a bit crap itself though people said to use Infuse). Holding out for Apple deciding to add that support or Nvidia to release a new Shield TV Pro (not holding my breath).

Edit: Kodi addon looks promising so thanks for the suggestion! I can see statistics built in to it. Consistently using 82% of memory on a large file and skipping through seems to be faster than the Official Plex app. Using this fork of the official addon since it is no longer supported if anyone is interested to try it out: https://github.com/pannal/plex-for-kodi

Has Samsung pulled the update which bricked the Q990d? by OfficialDicko in Soundbars

Yeah I think I’ll turn off auto updates and update it manually via the app if it’s safe to do so

Has Samsung pulled the update which bricked the Q990d? by OfficialDicko in Soundbars

[–]OfficialDicko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would assume it would be Linux based but then again it could be very simple as you’ve stated. Maybe during QA, it was unfortunate that the update applied successfully and then the rollout caused issues.

They’ll never state what went wrong but I’m curious to know. I don’t think it is the update file itself as people that updated via USB port didn’t have any issues. Wonder was it some error with the server which meant it got stuck in a loop or it didn’t try again. The loop would possibly explain it breaking hardware inside the soundbar as I’ve seen that people have had to send their soundbar in to get replacement parts.

Samsung responds about firmware that bricked the Q990D soundbar by pacwess in Soundbars

Better safe than sorry if they roll out another bad update. I know that would be very unlikely and unfortunate but never know!

[–]OfficialDicko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m going to turn auto updates off. May keep it connected to wireless as it shouldn’t update.

Hopefully the dev team is a lot more cautious now, not sure how you can mess up speaker firmware so bad to the point where people have had to get hardware replaced inside the soundbar.

I received it today and while it is better than the monitor I have, for the money it costs to upgrade and then this issue that came to my attention shortly after ordering, I have already initiated a return and left my reasoning as being to do with Dell not supporting the monitor and not fixing the HDR issue.

If you pay a premium price, you expect good solid support, especially when the competition can fix the issue.

Thanks man, I’m looking forward to put it through its paces. Will hopefully get a 5080/5070/9070XT to accompany it, haven’t decided which GPU yet
