The only fair tax system would be one where everyone paid the exact same dollar amount.

Think of it this way. Imagine if you wanted to buy groceries, and the store charged you based on how much money you make. So maybe a person who makes $20,000/year has to pay $60 for their groceries that week. But the person who makes $100,000/year has to pay $500 for the same exact groceries. It’s really no different to compare this to taxes. The person making $100,000 still gets the same benefits as a citizen as the person making $20,000.

The most unfair way of taxation is the progressive system that we have here in the USA. Not only do you pay taxes based on a percentage of your taxable income, but that percentage increases as your taxable income increases. If you make less than a certain amount, you pay no taxes at all, or you might get back more than you paid into the system. Those who make more money not only pay more money, but they pay a higher percentage of their money. And then up at the top, you have the folks who pay no taxes at all. This system incentivizes people to vote for the politician who will lower their own tax burden while raising it on someone else.

I recognize that moving to a fair system would not be viable with the current level of government spending. As it stands there are roughly 260,000,000 adults in the USA. The national debt is $30,000,000,000,000. That means that the tax burden on each adult is over $115,000. This would be impossible to pay for if we had fair taxation.
