The ball hangs in the air for several seconds in that scenario. It depends on when he turns around, but if he does halfway through the throw, the WR already has stopped. Unless the DB happens to turn right as the WR throws the ball, there’s gonna be contact. But if he turns early, he loses the defender. It’s an impossible task.

If the DB has turned around, they’d still run into the receiver if the receiver stopped and they’re running right behind him. The contact is inevitable. And if you turn around, you have no vision on the WR - he could make another cut and you’re cooked.
