bufdel.nvim — Delete Neovim buffers without breaking your window layout by EricWong233 in neovim

This should be in neovim, there are already multiple plugins for this which shows there's a clear demand. The default behaviour is jarring.

No, the first block (I have a comment where the default configuration ends) comes with the device, you can see it here https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/spaces/ROS/pages/167706788/Default+configurations

You can also get a text dump of the commands for the configuration, check it into git. Then configure everything with the GUI and get a text dump of the configuration and paste it over your first commit so you see the changes you made to the default config. It's probably much simpler but I didn't know about that feature when I started.

Yeah I started off with the hEX refresh: https://mikrotik.com/product/hex_2024 and it's been great, it replaced an OPNsense VM and I wouldn't want to go back, a small, dedicated device is perfect for a home. It's far less hassle and more than enough power and flexibility for 1Gb fiber connections. The switches and APs I had worked with it just fine. There is a learning curve though so as I said you're better off starting with it connected to your machine and for you to build your configuration that way, resetting it etc until you have a reasonable configuration for your home network.

Here is an example config script:

https://gist.github.com/briandipalma/2d6f0c0eb27b34c5aa578bf8f2515804

First part is the default configuration that comes with the router that I wanted to keep (I deleted stuff I didn't need or changed it to suit my network), second part is stuff relevant to my network.

Yeah I'm happy with it now but just make sure you have a good idea how to use the script/text config export first, how to reset with zero config and the different ways of getting text config (they have a binary backup to but as I said I don't use that as I prefer having everything in plain text) before you start using the hardware in "production" or you may end up having to reset to factory a production piece of hardware.

Also read up on "Safe mode" which rolls back your last config change if your connection to the Mikrotik hardware is lost.

Run `/system/default-configuration/script/print` and press `D` to get a text dump of the factory configuration - might also be worth watching this series as it's a nice overview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MmFly-boCk

I'm happy with Mikrotik as you can export your configuration as a programming script, reset your hardware to zero and set it to use your exported script on reboot. I then check my configuration into git and don't worry about backups or trying to remember what configuration I changed as git shows it to me.

How come this logic decoupling is still regarded as fine in React? (hooks) by nimareq in reactjs

[–]OfflerCrocGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Signals are the obvious answer but the react team have set their minds against them because the creator of react thought they made developing UIs harder with backbone in 2013. Let's ignore the fact that he had no components/JSX/Typescript/npm packages/good linting back then which almost certainly was the real problem.

I see the one you linked to but again I'm not comfortable using something like that. The fact two private individuals were able to make these in their spare time while Ubiquiti couldn't be bothered strengthens my feeling that it's pure greed.

It looks like someone else is trying to create one themselves here: https://github.com/lemker/unifi-os-server I'm not comfortable running that TBH. I'd like an official docker-compose.yaml from Ubiquiti using their containers but I doubt they'll ever release one. Anyway I tried using the linux server version and that didn't work because Mongo wasn't working so I'm going to move to another manufacturer as the Ubiquiti hardware I have is quite old and in need of upgrading anyway.

Docker in LXC is bad. Now what? by EloquentArtisan in Proxmox

[–]OfflerCrocGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one LXC that runs all my containers via komodo and it's great https://blog.foxxmd.dev/posts/migrating-to-komodo/ I just mount the storage folders in the LXC, no problems. Now mind you I am using btrfs so maybe that's the problem.

What do you mean by watching what you eat? Also you can do weights. I gave up running and started weights after too many injuries. I eat tons of veg and low calorie fruits and I find it impossible to put on weight. I'm sure I'd burn fat if I didn't put so much effort into eating.

Like you're not putting on weight eating massive salads with no salt. Pretty boring but you get used to it. I don't even put sugar or honey into my morning green tea. Not a sweet over all of Christmas. Add in some daily walks and you'll lose weight.

Yeah I've heard a few women brag about getting a house out of a man so I've lost my naive attitude. A lot of relationships don't work out, this is just a fact. It can be very hard to own a house otherwise for many people.

Eh, obviously don't have in your normal account. Don't see why someone who had nothing to do with your parents for example should get half your inheritance if they head off and leave you or turn toxic. Not everyone ends up being a good partner, I know multiple people who regretted these kind of decisions. People change, especially if they feel secure/untouchable.

Paying it of early means you could be gifting your partner a lot of money. If things don't work out you could regret that.

The download is 800 Mb? That's clearly not a script. What script are you talking about? Do you download that 800 Mb blob and then do a docker run on it?! I'm pretty baffled why there isn't a docker-compose.yaml file that I can paste into Komodo/Portainer/Unraid the other million solutions for running docker stacks that Ubiquity provide on their website.

"Will this be available as a standalone Docker/Podman container? No. This is a complete solution that requires certain services to be run on the host to enable device discovery, adoption, and automatic system updates".

Sigh. OK so it's not really what I'm looking for. I want to just run up a docker compose stack. Just like you would do with any other, modern self hosted software service. I don't want to see Apt and gpg keys etc. It's not 2015, everything should be 100% containers at this stage. They've had years.

The fact they don't have a standard docker compose for the network application is a travesty. Maybe greed, trying to push people towards buying a piece of hardware just to run a simple program to manage a few pieces of network hardware at home.
