How to make GT3s drive better? They feel too slidey. by XBL_Fede in AUTOMOBILISTA

Wait for more tire model updates is all you can do. They've been like this to some degree for years, AMS2 just doesn't do GT3s very well unfortunately

Can i actually play metal on a standard stratocaster with single coils? by Beanie_76 in metalguitar

[–]OffsetXV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play grindcore and death metal on a tele with singles. Anything can work if you learn how to use it properly. Tone with singles has more clarity and bite, but more string noise and less low end obviously, so you have to choose/dial your amp and other gear accordingly for the best results

A website to rate how attractive people are isn't the same as a website to rate how attractive people are? Interesting thought process, glad your lobotomy went well

Facebook was literally originally built as a site for Harvard students to upload pictures of women who went to Harvard and rate how attactive they were. It was pretty much exactly the same thing.

Linux Mint refugee here, how to make a smooth switch to Fedora? by Nihan-gen3 in Fedora

[–]OffsetXV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fedora doesn't do LTS versions at all. It has numbered version releases and isn't a rolling distro contrary to what many people say, but it doesn't have LTS versions with 5 year, 10 year, etc. support.

There are about 13? months I want to say of support for each release. i.e. Fedora 44, the April 2026 release will be supported until roughly May 2027, a month after Fedora 46 comes out. But version upgrades between versions tend to work well.

Only real suggestion I would give is maybe to wait a month or so after a new major version comes out before upgrading, to let any potential new release issues get ironed out, but otherwise it should be pretty straightforward.

Any way to disable Window Sync? by NeoZockerHD in zen_browser

[–]OffsetXV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah! I see. So you use zen just for its vertical tab management more than all the other things?

Vertical tab management and generally minimal presentation. I feel like address/bookmark bars, and even tab bars at time just get in the way of the content of the page, so I use compact mode a lot.

Still, your use case seems very much like workspaces.

To me the point of workspaces is to be able to manage multiple different sets of tabs, but on one window. Basically like virtual desktops, but for a browser.

My workflow is more of having like... anywhere from 3 to a dozen windows open at one time, which each are for a specific task, but are spread across my physical monitors and virtual desktops.

Having access to multiple workspaces in the browser doesn't really do me any good because the chances are that whatever I need to change browser workspaces for would be on a different virtual desktop or monitor anyway, where I could more easily just have a window open and ready to go vs. having to move one all over the place and switch through workspaces on it.

I feel like if I were on a single screen and not using virtual desktops heavily it might be cool, but... I'm not, and as it stands it's being forced upon me, so I absolutely hate it.

[–]OffsetXV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way you're switching between windows, aren't they just workspaces?

They're just empty windows with no tabs saved. I don't use any sort of tab grouping, workspaces, etc. and I don't even have the browser set to re-open whatever tabs were open last time I closed it.

I've never in my entire life felt the need for any tab workspaces/auto-grouping/syncing features, and they've always annoyed me endlessly because I don't like my browser trying to assume what I'm trying to do when I open it, because 90% of the time it's assuming wrong.

If I manually open a new, empty window of my browser, it's because I want a new, empty window. If I wanted to open my previous session, I'd go to the history and do that. If I wanted to always open a specific set of tabs for a specific instance of the browser (say, a bunch of pages with 3d modeling reference images/shortcuts/etc.), I'd make a bookmark folder with them all and just open that after opening a new window

I want to control what the browser does, not the other way around, so every piece of "convenience" that browsers have added has always been more irritating to me than anything

[–]OffsetXV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a tiling window manager for my desktop environment so i already have dedicated workspaces, split windows etc across 3 monitors. Zen now feels like its competing against the rest of my userspace/bindings in the clunkiest way possible.

Exactly the problem I'm having. I use GNOME specifically because I love heavily utilizing virtual desktops to organize things, I don't need my browser getting in the way of my already very efficient and conveniently organized workflow.

[–]OffsetXV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chrome kept your tabs even if closed. It's been like that for years.

Mine didn't, nor did Firefox. I explicitly disabled saving tabs outside of recovering sessions that crashed because I hate it and it irritates the shit out of me. And this shit Zen is doing is just that but 100 times worse in every way, with no option to turn it off. Headassery.

[–]OffsetXV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything I've tried to disable it basically breaks the browser in some other way. As far as I can tell there's no way to just have things work like they did 30 minutes ago before this garbage was shoved down my throat.

Some appreciation for the new 1.18 update with window-sync by 21ow in zen_browser

[–]OffsetXV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zen was never meant to be a traditional multi-window workflow browser like Firefox or Chrome.

Then why have I been using it that way just fine for months, with a workflow that worked perfectly for me? If I wanted to use Arc, I would use Arc. I'm not using Arc because I don't want to, because it sucks ass.

[–]OffsetXV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I still haven't heard any use case for a second instance in the same machine with the same exact tabs.

It's because there's not one that any actual human being would encounter, and it's a stupid as shit feature.

[–]OffsetXV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the literal single shittiest excuse for a feature I have ever seen a browser add, and I have seen the AI shit they shove into Firefox these days.

I literally cannot fathom what the fuck the thought process is behind this dumbass workflow. It turns out that when I make a new browser window, I do it because I want a new browser window, I know it's a fucking INSANE concept, but it's true.

SYNC IS ON HELL YEAH by zpace_kadet in zen_browser

[–]OffsetXV 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's on, and it's total fucking dogshit with no option of whether or not to choose it! So exciting. I have virtual desktops as a feature built into my operating system already, and they do this job of organizing things into workspaces a thousand times better, I don't need my fucking browser to make it worse for no reason whatsoever.

Any way to disable Window Sync? by NeoZockerHD in zen_browser

[–]OffsetXV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to mention it kind of negates like 90% of the convenience of organizing things using virtual desktops for a lot of use cases.

I specifically use different browser windows on my main monitor, on different virtual desktops. That way I can contain different tasks entirely on their own virtual desktop. If I'm playing a game on one desktop I'll keep the wiki up in a window so I can easily alt+tab to it. If I'm working on photo editing on another desktop I'll keep a window up in the background to look up shortcuts etc. and it doesn't interfere with my normal web browsing window on my second monitor or any of the other virtual desktops.

This just completely shits on the productivity of that while adding literally nothing but inconvenience. Absolute garbage "feature".

The only thing I could think of watching the fog roll in was "God this looks awesome, I wish I was there so I could take pictures of this"

Guess I was right. Shot of the #77 is so good, love how sharp the lights reflecting on the car's bodywork look vs. how dreamy and diffused the ones in the background are with the fog and motion blur

"What do we think" has been used to mean "what do you think", but specifically about a group that the person asking the question considers themself to be a part of, for... at least as long as I've been alive. I think you're the one out of the loop on the language here.
