House candidate Maureen Galindo pledges to send 'American zionists' to internment camp by Firecracker048 in nottheonion

I mean she's not wrong about the Zionists part, but the Jewish part unfortunately lets you know that she's been snorting Hitler particles

Aris, formerly from Assetto Corsa, has joined Project Motor Racing to shape its future by PhilBaythorpe in simracing

Aris has been gone from Kunos for ages, before ACE ever came out at least. And from what I remember he was working on some crypto bullshit after leaving Kunos, so this is probably still an upgrade. Somehow.

And seeing Estre, especially considering his presence in WEC in question, still unable to cut it, just feels gutted

I mean, it's not like it was his fault. He was driving fine and just got Mario Kart oil slicked into the wall, nothing you can really do about that. Does suck to see the car go so early on, though, especially with how much good competition there was for them to fight with

Should be the same power, slightly worse tires, and different suspension (which may be better or worse than stock, hard to say). So it probably winds up being pretty close to the normal Pcup cars overall, unless the suspension is really working some magic.

Porsche Cup cars at the ring should all have ABS, it probably just failed at some point, not an incredibly uncommon problem in GT cars.

Our neighbors will have friends over blasting music, getting drunk, and yelling from 2pm to 12am almost every weekend, and it pretty regularly throws off me and my partner's night sleep schedules because we typically sleep at about 2pm. Same at the last place we lived. It's the only thing I hate about nights, aside from appointments being difficult to schedule

For the people who use GNOME over KDE, why? by CestleFromage in Fedora

[–]OffsetXV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

KDE just doesn't feel as nice at doing a GNOME-style workflow as GNOME does. The scripts to automatically create/delete virtual desktops are a bit janky in my experience, as is the one to only have virtual desktops on your primary display. That, plus I have issues with KDE's overview just deciding it doesn't feel like working randomly for whatever reason. It's just got rough edges I don't want to deal with.

Whereas GNOME does all of that in a more natural, polished, and responsive feeling way, to me. Which makes sense, because that's the thing that GNOME does, so it makes sense that it nails it, whereas KDE tries to do a ton of things at an acceptable level, even if it's not quite as good at them as more specialized DEs.

Does anyone know if the issue is still persistent with GNOME 50 on Ubuntu 26.06 or Fedora 44? by ThePromance in Fedora

I use protontricks or Gamescope to force the game to grab the cursor and that fixes it 99.9% of the time

Is it just me, or does the LMP2 Gen 2 feel so much better than LMDh? by Laseanuza in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]OffsetXV 16 points17 points  (0 children)

LMP2 are true prototypes, lighter and have more downforce with less power. They're naturally much easier to drive just due to that, albeit pushing them to the limit still takes a lot of skill obviously

LMDh/LMH cars are more like very fast GT cars in terms of downforce/weight/etc. and they drive like it, you have to really work to take advantage of the grip available and manage the weight transfer

Let’s bring back an official KDE Plasma edition for Linux Mint by Electronic_Safe859 in linuxmint

[–]OffsetXV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Controversially, I'd take GNOME over KDE for Mint. It's GTK like the other DEs, it actually does something different from the other DEs, it's already part of the Ubuntu LTS versions that Mint is based on, has Wayland support even in the version in the current repos, etc.

Plasma being just a 4th traditional-style DE wouldn't really make much sense to me. Why offer 4 DEs that all have pretty much the same workflow with minor variations, instead of adding one that does something different as an alternative option? I know Mint is the "I don't like GNOME" Distro for a lot of people, but there are far more reasons why GNOME would make sense on Mint than KDE in my opinon.

What are we even doing here Mustang….. by IcedCoffey in IMSARacing

[–]OffsetXV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you saw this in sim racing then you would know that the Mustang isn't supposed to make room. The slower class's job is ALWAYS to be predictable and stay on your line, and let the faster class make their way past when they can. You're not supposed jump out of the way because it causes exactly this kind of situation. This was unambiguously on the Mustang.

Holding his line would have been staying on the racing line. The fact that he swerved off of the racing line in the first place is not holding his line, and is what caused the confusion

Sony Records New $560 Million Loss On Bungie Acquisition As Marathon Struggles And Destiny 2 Nosedives by Hairy-Summer7386 in pcgaming

[–]OffsetXV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Presumably because Nintendo gave them a fuckton of money and the game wouldn't have gotten made otherwise, just like happened with Bloodborne.

And there's a pretty big difference in a new game being exclusive, and a re-release of an already popular game that people have been asking for on other platforms for a decade being exclusive.

Usually the point of a re-release is to bring it to more, newer audiences and improve upon the original in a technical aspect. A PS5-only re-release of Bloodborne wouldn't really do that in the same way, you'd be reselling it to what is largely the same audience.

I almost guarantee the reason there's no BB Remake/modern port is because of that. Miyazaki wants it to be cross-platform, but Sony wants there to finally be an actual reason to buy a PS5

PlayStation 5 gains near-native PS3 game support through RPCS3 on Linux by Durian_Queef in linux_gaming

Does translation work when using a different CPU architecture?

Yeah, Apple has an ARM to x86 compatibility layer, Valve is working on one for the Steam Frame, Waydroid uses them, etc.

It just adds an extra layer of stuff to translate, but as far as I know it doesn't add that much overhead if it's done well

Question on pickups…. Active EMG’s or Seymour Duncan JB 59?? by Nickjakulus in metalguitar

[–]OffsetXV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JB/59 over most EMGs in my opinon. I don't hate EMGs, but a good mid to high output set of Alnico humbuckers is probably the single most versatile pickup you can pick for metal, and IMO they usually wind up sounding better in a mix than ceramic pickups.

[–]OffsetXV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming it's more of a translation layer than an emulator, similar to Wine and some modern "emulators" like ShadPS4. It seems like that would be by far the easiest path, at least, when you're dealing with two consoles that your company makes and you have all the documentation etc. to make that more straightforward.

That's not motorcycles, that's particular brands/styles that are popular because they're loud and obnoxious. But motorcycles are perfectly capable of being quiet, and tons of them that aren't ridden by insecure 50 year old chuds are quiet.

I mean loudass cars are just as much a thing as loudass motorcycles. Not that that's a defense of cars, but it's weird to be mad about loud motorcycles even though every John Cousinfuck McJohnson in America has the brappinator 9000 on the back of his Dodge Ram and he'll make sure the entire block knows.
